Spectre338I have a 12 TB raid array setup and am trying to use the mythbuntu live disk to install. It only shows 4 TB of the 12TB. When I select it and figure ill expand it later the install hangs and tells me it detected GPT but not the fake MSDOS partition.01:03
Spectre338!help01:04
Zinn!help For a  complete list of my knowledge visit: http://www.baablogic.net/Zinn.cgi  Other available commands: !status, !about, !bug [bug_number].01:04
Shadow__XSpectre338: can we get some information of the array? is it hardware/software raid? did you partition it in windows etc01:20
Spectre338Hardware RAID on a Gigabyte Z77-D3H, I have not booted it into windows01:23
Spectre338RAID 5 on 6 3TB Seagate SATA drives01:23
Spectre338My usable space is just under 14TB not the 12TB mentioned earlier **typo01:27
Shadow__XSpectre338: what controller are you using01:34
Shadow__Xit sounds like you might be using the raid feature of the motherboard. If thats the case its actually software raid and you are better off using linux kernel raid and using mdadm to set it up01:35
Spectre338useing Intel RAID controller H7701:37
Shadow__Xyeah thats actually software raid. For windows to even detect that you need to install a driver. Since you are trying to use software raid on the motherboard your best (only read) bet is to use linux raid01:38
Spectre338using raid456 in the kernel?01:39
Shadow__Xwhen using the motherboards raid its really more like fake raid as its not hardware raid. Hardware raid is only when you use a card that has a dedicated cpu for xor operations01:39
Shadow__XSpectre338:with linux raid the operation system will do the raid stuff for you01:39
Shadow__Xmost operating systems can do software raid and linux raid in particular is really good and reliable01:40
Shadow__XSpectre338: this would be an example of a hardware raid card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681615110201:41
Zinn[www.newegg.com] Newegg.com - areca ARC-1213-4I PCI-Express 2.0 x8 Low Profile SATA / SAS 4-Port RAID Controller01:41
Shadow__Xnotice on the details it lists a 800mhz raid on chip processor, 512mb ecc ram01:42
Shadow__Xalso that it is ready for a battery backup module01:42
Spectre338i see that01:44
Spectre338my google-fu fails me. How do i set up a Linux RAID while in mythbuntu01:45
Spectre338?01:45
Spectre338the ones ive found use mdadm is this what i should be using?01:46
Shadow__Xyeah, that is what i use and it has been solid. I have added drives, rebuilt the array and it has done fantastic01:46
Shadow__Xhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mdadm01:47
Zinn[en.wikipedia.org] mdadm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia01:47
Shadow__Xthat is one reasource but i am trying to find the best one01:48
Spectre338This is one i found https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/RAID_setup#General_setup01:48
Zinn[raid.wiki.kernel.org] RAID setup - Linux Raid Wiki01:48
Shadow__Xi would not do modprobe raid456 as i am fairly certain most kernels have that at this point01:49
Shadow__Xor at the very least i do not remember needing to do that01:49
Spectre338I am new to this method. At work i use Dell H700 and PERC-6 RAID controlers. very diffrent animal01:50
Shadow__Xhttp://man-wiki.net/index.php/8:mdadm01:51
Zinn[man-wiki.net] 8:mdadm - Linux Man Pages Manual Documentation for Linux / Solaris / UNIX / BSD01:51
Shadow__Xyes01:51
Spectre338Is there any issue doing that in the "try mythbuntu before installing"?01:51
Shadow__Xno other than you needed to remember to add the drive to stab by uuid01:52
Shadow__Xit would appear that the dell h700 wiuth perc 6 is hardware raid btw01:52
Shadow__Xthis should help http://www.ducea.com/2009/03/08/mdadm-cheat-sheet/01:53
Zinn[www.ducea.com] N/A01:53
Spectre338That was my point. Battery buckup and all01:54
Spectre338roger that i will give it a shot thank you for you assistance01:54
Shadow__Xyup, also you do not need to install mdadm from a .deb its in the repo so install it from there01:54
Shadow__Xthis also looks pretty good http://zackreed.me/articles/38-software-raid-5-in-debian-with-mdadm01:56
Zinn[zackreed.me] #38 Software RAID 5 in Ubuntu/Debian with mdadm01:56
loganruncan't get lirc to start with "service start lirc"02:36
loganrunif I do ircd -H dev/input -d /dev/input/event14 -n02:36
loganrunthings seem to work I think, some of the howtos talk about hardware.conf but that doesn't seem to do anything so far02:37
Shadow__Xloganrun: its sudo service lirc restart or start02:37
loganrunyeah. i just found some more info on the hardware.conf file, think that is where my issue may lie, I think I was missing some stuff02:39
loganrunnot sure what I actually need in it though since the simple command seemed to work02:39
loganrunwonder if the arguments are defined someware02:40
Shadow__Xloganrun: do you have mythbuntu?02:40
loganrunno02:42
Shadow__Xok well either way you can install mythbuntu control center and it will take care of setting up your remote with lirc02:44
Shadow__Xalso it includes mappings for a few remotes02:44
loganrunhmm, o.k. If I can't get this working I'll give that  shot, I think I am about one line in the config file away, but who knows02:48
Shadow__Xloganrun: well, i mean its an app that takes care of setting all that up for you02:48
Shadow__Xkey mapping lirc all of that02:49
Shadow__Xits just much easier to use mythbuntu control center also it can help with other settings too02:49
Shadow__Xplus mythbuntu devs provide a repo that will give you up to date builts of mythtv which makes life even easier02:49
loganrunwhat app should I install apt-get mythbuntu_controlcenter?02:50
Shadow__Xmythbuntu-control-centre02:52
Shadow__Xif you are having trouble finding it you can use this http://www.mythbuntu.org/existing-ubuntu02:56
Zinn[www.mythbuntu.org] Add to Ubuntu | Mythbuntu02:56
loganrunI found it02:58
Shadow__Xi would also recommend using the auto builds02:59
Shadow__Xthats your best bet to keep up with bug fixes02:59
loganrunyeah that looks pretty good, but currently I have my remote set up iw ir_keytables, and lircd is supposed to connect to that03:01
loganrunnot sure how I would migrate03:01
loganrunmy remote control will not be in any database per se03:01
Shadow__Xoh ok03:03
Shadow__Xthen your best bet might be to fix the logs so it could just auto start. I should of asked what type of rmeote you were using03:03
loganrunyeah basically I had a hauppage pvr remote then used those codes as the basis for the programmable remote and added a few more buttons,03:04
loganrunbut the mapping is now not too related to where it started03:05
Shadow__Xhmm so not like on of these http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MCE_Remote03:06
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] MCE Remote - MythTV Official Wiki03:06
Shadow__Xthere is also this page http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Category:Remote_Controls03:07
Zinn[www.mythtv.org] Category:Remote Controls - MythTV Official Wiki03:07
loganruno.k. looks like /etc/init.d/lirc fails somewhere in the starting remote control dameon(S) section03:11
loganrunbut I don't know what that has to do with anything03:11
Shadow__Xif that fails that means somewhere in your config you have errors that stops lirc from running properly03:14
