Whats your views? [08:33] I'm new to git, SVN or Hg, so any would do, as long as it is easy and usable [08:34] git. [08:34] from what I've read I thought about git as well [08:35] but then you get github, bitbucket, googlecode and sourceforge. Maybe I should start out with one and move to the next if I don't like it [10:57] o/ [10:57] wb superfly [10:58] lo === Trix[a]r_za is now known as Trixar_za === Trixar_za is now known as Trix[a]r_za [14:01] hi :) [14:10] hi === DigiGram is now known as Digi||Gram [14:26] whew Digi||Gram you got piped [14:33] hi smile4 [14:34] Kilos: :) [15:16] kbmonkey: ping === Trix[a]r_za is now known as Trixar_za [17:45] Kilos: hoe gaan dit oom? [19:43] vanilla ubuntu but the 10.04 [19:44] i have tried xubuntu and kubuntu [19:45] both cool, I have just installed Bodhi Linux, ubuntu based [19:45] why 10.04 over 12.04? [19:45] never really got the hang of unity [19:46] glad I'm not the only one [19:46] also don't really like Gnome 3 [19:47] i have unity 12.04 on one of the shop computers so I do use it [19:47] it is slower than gnome [19:47] on the other i have xcfe or xfce always mix that up [19:51] and you Squirm? [19:53] xfce [19:58] hi hi [19:59] ohi kbmonkey [20:01] hey kbmonkey [20:02] thanks superfly you still awake? [20:03] magespawn: of course [20:06] enjoying the kids? lol [20:15] magespawn: heh. [20:16] hi superfly and magespawn [20:17] excuse my slowness, it's monday after all ;) [20:27] * superfly really wants to hit Navdeep Singh over the head with a blunt object [20:27] seriously dude, we've already schooled you in Netiquette, and you still can't manage that. [20:28] not to mention sending a user-related query to the Ubuntu kernel team! [20:28] somehow i think i'm only getting half the mails again [20:28] his "to" field only ever seems to grow with mailing lists [20:28] oh [20:28] that [20:28] but [20:28] but [20:28] * Tonberry needs to compose himself [20:29] Tonberry: oh, is that you?! :-P [20:29] no [20:29] hell no [20:29] did not see the rest of the to field the first time [20:30] Tonberry: it seems to grow with every query he sends [20:30] how does one reach that level of cluelessness but still find the power button? [20:30] superfly whats the background? [20:32] * Tonberry checks his logs [20:32] magespawn: a particularly clueless user on the mailing lists [20:32] this guy is the king of crossposting [20:33] he was asking for internship advice on the ubuntu kernel-team list... [20:33] bizactly [20:33] ohh right well sometimesmwe get those [20:34] is he posting to multiple lists? [20:34] yes [20:34] 6 of them in the latest mail [20:37] okay then. also cannot type, use punctuation or sentence structure, the mail reads like a bad sms. [20:37] Oom Kilos is living proof that you can suffer from brain damage and still get it right. How this guy can't, I have no idea. [20:37] magespawn: He's from India [20:38] ahh [20:40] Some of it is okay. But the rest, anyways. [20:41] Now I see the email. That is just too rude. eish [20:43] and the number of people it was sent to, amazing [20:51] and the number of people it was sent to, amazing [20:52] whoops [20:52] A pity the list doesn't have a 'report spam/user' option [20:53] said that twice [20:53] sudo !! [20:53] lol [20:54] i have had problems with bottom posting in email [20:58] thats what I wanted to say^^^ [20:59] it's annoying when reading mail on small phone screens, eh. [21:01] people miss the bottom post often too [21:02] magespawn: sorry. I don't really know what distro I like [21:03] well thats the best thing you can try them all [21:04] I've tried a lot [21:04] maybe read http://www.zdnet.com/the-truth-about-goobuntu-googles-in-house-desktop-ubuntu-linux-7000003462/ [21:07] I like Debian [21:07] so I think I'm going to go for Ubuntu [21:07] I think I'm going to just do what I've done now with my current install [21:10] what is your current install Squirm? see the alpha for the Gnome Shell edition of ubuntu is out.. [21:11] kbmonkey: running Debian, without Gnome. Have pekwm as my window manager, pcmanfm as file manager, using tint2 as my bar and feh to draw my background [21:12] I think I'll do the same, but with Ubuntu(so I get the later packages) [21:16] Squirm: why not just use Debian unstable? [21:16] if you're using it for a desktop, unstable is recommended [21:16] hmm [21:17] jip [21:18] i am trying bodhi linux [21:22] superfly: Debian-testing ? [21:24] Squirm: that's fairly old. Unstable has actually just gone into feature freeze, so that'll become the next testing, if I have my Debian procedure correct. [21:25] cause I'm currently running Squeeze still [21:25] which I know is old [21:27] superfly: if I add the sid repo to debian, what would happen then? would I be able to do an update? [21:28] i am out of here now, bed is calling night all. [21:28] Squirm: that I do not know. Best to consult the Intarwebs, more specifically the Googols [21:28] night magespawn [21:28] * superfly wants to do the same [21:28] night magespawn [21:28] am looking now superfly [21:28] and thanks [21:33] sid is testing. you *could* update, but it would potentially break a lot of things Squirm [21:33] usually what one does, is add testing and only install selected packages from testing. the ones you need. [21:34] the links I find, tell me just to add the repo to apt [21:34] hmm, how would I choose just to update certain packages? would it give me an option between versions? [21:35] well, lets see [21:35] I mean, I can install a package and update it. but say I want to install another library, not from sid [21:35] im still new at this, but pinning defines which repos get priority [21:35] but to install from testing you use apt -t option [21:38] so before you said this, I added the repo inplace of squeeze, did an apt-get update [21:38] now I want to update 3 packages [21:38] 245 upgraded, 187 newly installed, 26 to remove and 973 not upgraded. [21:38] Need to get 318 MB of archives. [21:38] After this operation, 282 MB of additional disk space will be used. [21:38] Do you want to continue [Y/n]? [21:38] lol [21:38] like you said, probably bad move, so I won't [21:43] and then I added sid and squeeze into apt [21:43] same thing [21:46] lol, yes I made that mistake. borked the system badly. [21:47] what needs to be done, is to edit /etc/apt/preferences and add an entry for the testing repo, and give it a lower priority, so it wont be preferred by default [21:47] its called 'pinning'. google that for proper steps :) [21:48] then you call apt with -t to specify the target release when you only want testing packages [21:48] thanks [21:48] how I installed the 3.2 linux kernel so my intel graphics works [21:48] of course, newer distros have this kernel, im just using an older distro :p [21:51] meh [21:51] now running apt-get update [21:52] and trying to install any new package is asking me to update still [21:52] awe, past bed time. got to get up for work in 5 hours :( [21:52] remove the testing repo then update [21:53] don't know if it'll help [21:53] my system could just seriously be out of date [21:53] which it probably is [21:54] ah [21:54] it's gone now [21:54] ty [21:56] :) [22:06] goodnight all === Trixar_za is now known as Trix[a]r_za
