=== siddharth is now known as Guest82387 [08:08] morning, anyone knows when 4.9.1 might hit kubuntu-backports? [08:08] morning where I am, that is... [08:09] Morning kubuntu. [09:05] hallo, here.... [09:07] Hey ALS-IT-NET-PC, how are you? [09:11] Thank You. All Good. [09:11] :) === marco is now known as Guest58511 [11:16] osinclair_: we're working on it [11:16] probably next week or sth [11:16] though can't really gurantee a exact date tbh [11:18] shadeslayer_ thanks good to know === jonah is now known as Guest75738 [11:27] hi i hope someone can help. I'm moving house so o2 have given me a mobile dongle while my broadband moves. However I can't get it working. Network manager detects it and it comes up with all the defaults etc but it won't connect. It should be prepaid or pay as you go, but on selecting all different contract/pay types and trying to connect the authorisation screen just pops back up again. Can anyone please help? [11:50] Hey all === cryptfu_ is now known as Guest59479 [12:22] hey BlaXpirit [12:22] hey BluesKaj [12:25] hi velho [12:36] BluesKaj, kubuntu user how many years? [12:36] 6 or so , velho [12:37] as a regular user ... I did start with linux about 8 yrs ago === julian is now known as Guest45090 [13:29] BluesKaj, my interest started more then 10 years ago (gosh, how many time!) but I just became an OFFICIAL ubuntu user THIS WEEK :D [13:30] velho, "official" , ok what's your definition ? [13:31] BlaXpirit, I mean I'm finally becaming a true user [13:31] oh come on, improve your aiming skills [13:31] BlaXpirit, sorry, it was not for you [13:31] but i know [13:32] BluesKaj, I mean I'm finally becaming a true user === spawn[dead] is now known as spawn57 [13:32] BluesKaj, I must use Windows, but for the everyda stuff, I'm converting to linux [13:33] pro tip: go though all the settings. (if you're using KDE, of course) [13:33] yes , velho a lot of us have to use windows , such a shame [13:34] BlaXpirit, "aiming skils"? was that message for me? [13:35] yes, it's quite obvious that you missed BluesKaj and hit me, but no problem [13:35] BlaXpirit, BluesKaj I'm using ubuntu, not KDE. I like KDE more, but I'm giving gnome a try [13:35] well it's a Kubuntu channel... that's for KDE [13:35] BlaXpirit, I made that mistake twice. will not happen again, I'm sorry [13:36] (i think so) [13:36] gnome is ok , but I prefer kde ,, it's much more configurable , and I like the 'look' much more [13:36] BlaXpirit, yes. KDE= Kubunto Gnome= Ubuntu XDE=Xubuntu [13:36] yes, yes, i know, i'm just not sure about the channels [13:37] BluesKaj, KDE is more like windows [13:38] can I have Ubuntu and Kubuntu installed, with no compatibility problems? [13:38] i'm afraid that's impossible without any consequences at all [13:39] I'm on W7 atm , updating , but dunno how long this install is going to be here , I don't use for anything so far [13:40] well, once we have Steam on Linux, Adobe will be the main problem [13:41] Thinking of using this drive for an experimental OS , but I haven't found one that interests me yet [13:41] just use virtual machines... [13:42] BluesKaj, if you don't use Windws for anything, why installing it? [13:43] velho: Ubuntu and Kubuntu? Why don't you just install both desktop managers: KDE and maybe Unity or Gnome? [13:44] I was going to join netflix , but the movies they have don't appeal to me much (wife and I are older and retired) , there isn't much there of interest to us. [13:45] it seems like no good movies are released at all [13:45] i wouldn't even want to watch the modern movies even for free, and to pay for them... [13:46] ok ,back to kubuntu ...see you in a bit [13:47] kde 4.9 su kubuntu 12.04, ci sarà nei repo ufficiali? [13:48] already is for a long time [13:48] francesco_, https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/backports [13:49] it's even in the channel topic -_- [13:49] i must add this ppa:ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports [13:49] yes. it won't be added to the default 12.04 repositories, i think [13:50] ok...thnaks.bb [13:51] mc_monti, that's what I meant! can I do that without having to install all the progs again? [13:51] mc_monti, just changing desktop managers inside the same system? [13:52] well you can install both environments at once and select which one you want to use during login [13:52] it's about as easy as installing applications in the package manager [13:53] You can choose, either to install the whole package with all programs or just kde. [13:55] if you have an existing Ubuntu installation just add the package kde-standard [13:56] if you want all the software that comes with a normal kubuntu installation, install the package kubuntu-desktop [13:56] but it does install a lot of applications [13:57] No, kde-standard is pretty much only the desktop manager [13:58] but you are right concerning the kubuntu-desktop [13:58] kde-standard has Ark, Dragon Player, Gwenview, Juk, Kate, KCalc, KMail, Akregator, KAddressBook, Kopete, Okular [13:59] maybe even more than Kubuntu [14:00] kde-plasma-desktop is the minimal thing probably [15:16] b [15:16] 'b [15:40] im using kubuntu [15:41] but i cant write bangla in libre office [15:41] though i have bangla font installed in it. it shows ! [15:41] any suggestion? === spawn57 is now known as spawn[dead] [17:34] hey, im looking at the Theme tab in on the Login Screen in System Settings. It lists Ariya as the only theme. I can click the Get New Themes at the bottom, which I have. I can download themes, but none show in the list of available themes? What gives? On the window where you download theme, they will show as installed. [17:45] eh i found it, have to run systemsettings with root priv [17:57] ok screen keeps going black and i cant find it to stop it [17:57] 12.04 [17:58] looked in powermanagement , screensaver, hmmmm [18:02] monkeyjuice: sure its not hardware? i got an lcd that does that, it gets warmed up and just blanks, no matter the os, guess im monitor shoping soon [18:02] or maybe a refresh rate it doesnt like? [18:02] Hey, when I put my laptop to sleep and press a button on my keyboard, instead of the session resuming the computer just goes thorugh the boot process [18:03] just tryed xset s noblank will see [18:04] ircyop, how big is you swap partition compared to your RAM [18:06] 4 gigs of swap [18:06] 4 gigs of ram [18:06] BluesKaj: [18:06] ircyop, make sure swap is at least 512 mb larger than your RAM [18:06] Oh okay, this is how it was set automatically [18:06] by Kubuntu [18:07] through the install BluesKaj [18:07] I was lectured on that already once today , bt someone who seems to know [18:07] by [18:07] ah okat [18:08] It seems strange that Kubuntu's auto installl wouldn't do that automatically [18:22] ircyop, I've never used the auto-install method , I always use the manual , and I preset the the partitions beforehand ..the rule was, swap =1.5XRAM [18:23] When I was using gentoo the rule was 2x BluesKaj. So my bad [18:24] nothing "bad" about it , as long as it's somewhat larger [18:24] na its still going black ;( [18:26] monkeyjuice, I set scrnsaver and power mngmnt dim to 180 mins , but the scrn still goes dark after not moving the mouse or using the KB after 15 === yofel_ is now known as yofel === raindog is now known as Guest92454 [19:19] Good evening [19:20] afternoon === kubuntu is now known as Guest23518 [20:18] help! kubuntu 12.04.1 ubiquiti doesn't see any disk :( but fdisk do [20:18] i can't install :( [20:19] in fdisk i can do everything with disk [20:20] <[Raiden]> try testdist to fix. [20:20] <[Raiden]> testdisk [20:21] Disk is good :P [20:21] Guest23518, is the disk formatted ? [20:21] <[Raiden]> partition table may be not good [20:21] beacuse there is 2 other systems :P [20:21] fdisk > o > w [20:21] i did [20:21] and then restart computetr [20:21] computer* [20:21] there was* [20:22] how many partitions are on the hard drive [20:23] Guest23518, if you have 4 primary partitions , in cluding swap then you can't install unless you make one of them an extended [20:23] http://paste.kde.org/545048/ [20:23] thats how look disk at now [20:25] you haven't finished editing the partition table Guest23518 , until you do , nothing will install [20:25] no? [20:26] <[Raiden]> I met with the fact that, after a third-party partitioning software, the installer does not see the partitions. After checking in testdisk everything is ок (google translate:)) [20:26] I suggest you check your partitions with gparted live cd and make sure they are still ok , and that your data is still intact [20:26] Guest23518, ^ [20:27] in gparted can i create partition with 32GiB Gibibyte? [20:28] yes , if your partition table allows it [20:28] fdisk allows it ;) i always make partitions in fdisk, but this is first time when kubuntu wanna something else ... :/ [20:29] and only kubuntu. [20:29] i checked partition tabke in gparted. everythind is OK [20:30] the kubuntu installer has a partitioner that can check and make / or /home partitions if there's room for another primary [20:31] whole disk is empty [20:31] he can see only my pendrive [20:34] your partition table is waiting for a change , that change must be finished [20:34] how do that? [20:34] whatever you treid to do didn't finish [20:35] even partprobe says 'good' [20:35] if your whole disk is empty then just make a new parttion table [20:35] there is new msdos partition table\ [20:36] well , your paste shows that the table is altered [20:36] and then "Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table. [20:36] Syncing disks." [20:37] and when i enter fdisk, new partition table is ready [20:40] i have a external drive that failed while loaded in windows xp (fell over, usb port broke). got a new enclosure for it, can access it on windows 7 or xp. would kubuntu be able to mount it? [20:40] * BluesKaj shrugs [20:41] is it worth getting a live disk and trying it out? [20:41] * Deet` would have a mac book linux if he could get the usb wifi to work :/ [20:42] Deet`, yes kubuntu live can mount it [20:42] dinnertime bbl...gotta bBQ [20:43] * monkeyjuice likes his steak rare [20:43] sweet *downloads* === philippe is now known as Guest50166 === raindog is now known as Guest34067 === kubuntu is now known as mcflono === moji_ is now known as moji [22:05] beta 1 is out! http://www.kubuntu.org/news/12.10-beta-1 === Vito_away is now known as Vito === alric is now known as Kagesuinobito [22:57] hello all [22:57] have spanish kubuntu? [22:58] ok, kubuntu-es ty all [23:04] guys, kde 4.9 is a stable version? [23:06] not, not is a stable, its 4,8.4 grrr [23:06] the latest stable version is 4.9.1 that was released on Tuesday [23:06] i have a 4.9.0 but have many problems [23:06] 64 bits [23:07] i change 32 bits (perfect) to 64 bits and have many errors [23:07] one in the start, other in preferences button... [23:07] and only have 2 days working [23:08] greetings. is there a way to switch off the animation when you switch desktops? :) [23:08] userkubuntu: if you find bugs, you should see if they are already reported or report them yourself at https://bugs.kde.org/ [23:09] the bugs are reported, not are only me :( [23:11] internet tells me desktop activity settings might control it [23:13] the animation to switch desktops? i think in preference have an option to change: in desktop efects (efectos de escritorio in spanish) [23:15] userkubuntu: right you are, thankyou :) [23:15] (though, now that I am there the cube is very tempting lol) === raindog is now known as Guest7059 [23:48] it's not yet talk like a pirate daaay... yaaaar
