HenkPoleyHi, who should I contact to get https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/pull/24 integrated in the 0.25-fixes build ?12:18
Zinn[github.com] Fix Channel Tuning Broken with DVB-C (Ziggo), closes #7486 by bas-t · Pull Request #24 · MythTV/mythtv · GitHub12:18
mal2hi, trying to run mythbackend setup. It's asking for my password to add me to the mythtv group. I enter my password and it is deemed wrong, what can I do?13:25
dmfreytgm4883, hopefully i have quelled all their bickering by just telling them to post enhancement requests on the github page13:41
mal2mythbackend keeps asking for my password but I keep entering it, and it keeps telling me it's wrong13:46
dmfreywhen does it prompt you for the password?13:47
mal2when it wants to add me to the mythtv group for starters13:48
dmfreyyou should already be in that group13:48
dmfreyfrom command line, enter 'groups', one should be mythtv13:49
mal2I downloaded mythtv later13:49
mal2maybe thaat has something to do with it13:49
mal2yes13:49
mal2one is13:49
dmfreytry editing /etc/group and add your user id to the mythtv group, then either log out or reboot13:49
dmfreyif it is already there, then I am not sure what is asking you to be added to the mythtv group13:50
dmfreyis it just an ubuntu system that you have added mythtv to?13:51
dmfreyvia packages in apt?13:51
dmfreyvia source?13:51
mal2lubuntu13:51
mal2synaptic13:52
dmfreyeverything seemed to install correctly?13:53
mal2yes13:53
mal2I'm now in that group but...13:53
mal2when I try to enter the setup it wants to stop the backend13:53
mal2asks me for password again13:53
dmfreythat's expected13:54
mal2and tells me it's wrong13:54
dmfreytells you what is wrong?13:54
mal2my password13:54
dmfreyoh, password13:54
dmfreyshould be your user password for when you run update manager or synaptic13:54
mal2yes13:54
mal2I KNOW my password is correct13:54
dmfreyi am not doubting that13:55
dmfreyi wasn't sure if you were using that one or the mythtv password13:55
mal2I set that the same13:55
mal2I've changed mine to no avail13:55
qwebirc29475can the mythtv user get root/sudo ?13:55
mal2and changed it back13:55
qwebirc29475aka, mal2, is it in sudoers ?13:56
dmfreyare you trying to run as mythtv or your desktop user?13:56
mal2dmfrey yes13:56
qwebirc29475.. /etc/sudoers even13:56
dmfreywhich is it?13:56
mal2seems I am not in the sudoers file13:57
dmfreythen how are you running updates with that user?13:57
mal2beats me13:58
mal2I can't add myself to the sudoers file as I can 't get access14:01
mal2hmmm14:01
mal2any ideas?14:05
mal2I can't find any useful info on this, I have found stuff telling me "visudo" but thta's no good14:06
qwebirc29475mal2, what does `groups` say for your user and mythtv accounts ?14:09
mal2'group' for user mal:x:1000:14:11
mal2mythtv:x:120:mal14:12
qwebirc29475no what does the command `groups` say?14:13
mal2mal mythtv14:13
qwebirc29475that's pretty odd, can you still play audio as any of those users, or access the CD/DVD ?14:15
qwebirc29475oh wait, audio is not in a group anymore14:15
mal2thinking of starting again14:16
mal2something's fubar somewhere14:16
mal2this is messed up, I can't even unmount a drive14:20
mal2can I switch the terminal to the mythtv user?14:20
qwebirc29475su mythtv ? then enter password14:24
mal2hmmm, it says "added user mythtv" that seems odd14:27
mal2okay now it says mythtv is not in the sudoers file either14:27
mal2seems I have no sudo access at all14:28
qwebirc29475are you currently in a normal startup mode? (aka not single-user mode)14:30
qwebirc29475some of the recovery modes might not load groups or something14:30
mal2I googled and it's tel;ing me recovery mode14:30
qwebirc29475yeah, in the recovery mode you basically get root14:31
mal2I'll do that14:31
qwebirc29475then you may be able to restore some sanity if you know how :P14:31
mal2what could possibly go wrong? 8)14:32
qwebirc29475What does this button do? Ooooohh shiny..14:35
mal2aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're back14:47
mal2I i have sudo again14:47
mal2now....where was I?14:47
mal2still getting the wrong password error though in myth bakend setup14:48
qwebirc29475you could also try to just stop mythtv-backend: `sudo service mythtv-backend stop`14:50
qwebirc29475On my backend that part of mythtv-setup doesn't work either14:50
qwebirc29475Oh, and if your sudo is gone again you've got a rootkit :P14:51
mal2after 3 wrong attempts it starts the mythbackend setup thing anyway14:51
mal2thanks for all your help14:54
mal2really late14:54
mal2gonna stop14:54
mal2I've made mistakes when really tired before...14:54
mal2cheers14:58
qwebirc29475How would you make a diff from this: https://github.com/bas-t/mythtv/commit/121944723e49bc81cbc31f7db932b97c612726d6 ?15:05
Zinn[github.com] Fix Channel Tuning Broken with DVB-C (Ziggo), closes #7486 · 1219447 · bas-t/mythtv · GitHub15:05
qwebirc29475So I can add it as a patch to a .deb file (as described here http://www.mythbuntu.org/wiki/recipes )15:05
Zinn[www.mythbuntu.org] Recipes | Mythbuntu15:05
qwebirc29475clone the full git, or does github have a backdoor for raw diff access ?15:06
qwebirc29475Ohhh, that's easy. Just add .diff to the URL15:07
qwebirc29475Hmm mythtv's packaging.git scripts error out on a fresh mythbuntu 12.04.117:19
qwebirc29475missing get-build-deps17:19
tgm4883qwebirc29475, are you running build-debs.sh?17:47
qwebirc29475tgm4883: yes18:47
qwebirc29475on a fresh 12.04.1 primary mythtv-backend VM18:48
tgm4883qwebirc29475, looks like get-build-deps was removed in 11.0418:56
tgm4883discussion here https://github.com/MythTV/packaging/pull/2618:56
Zinn[github.com] In Ubuntu Precise the script 'get-build-deps' is no longer present by bas-t · Pull Request #26 · MythTV/packaging · GitHub18:56
stuartmsuperm1: tgm4883: upgrading to oneric and it's telling me that mythtv-frontend depends on transcode - any idea why?19:00
tgm4883stuartm, is it needed for ripping?19:04
stuartmno, we've not supported ripping for a long time now19:05
stuartmwell not ripping of DVD/Bluray19:05
tgm4883it's set as a dependency, but IDK why19:05
tgm4883I didn't add it19:06
stuartmpossibly a legacy dep then19:07
tgm4883possibly19:07
tgm4883I'll grab some lunch and let superm1 decide19:07
stuartmunder missing deps, installing mythtv-backend didn't install mysql ...19:12
tgm4883stuartm, it wouldn't19:14
tgm4883you're looking for mythtv-backend-master19:14
stuartmtgm4883: ahh, doing this all blind19:16
superm1stuartm: mmm there was a good reason that it pulled that in back then20:36
superm1i don't think it was for ripping, because that would have come from the mythdvd plugin20:36
superm1of course debian/changelog doesn't show that well20:37
stuartmhaving problems with auto login and lightdm, I've modified lightdm.conf with autologin-user=<username> and all the other recommended stuff, but it still prompts for the username/password22:32
superm1stuartm: are you also specifying the user-session and greeter-session?22:38
superm1and also do you have mythbuntu-lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf in the directory?22:38
superm1i know a few releases back we had a weird upgrade problem with the transition to lightdm that wasn't sorted out until next release22:39
stuartmyes, yes and yes22:39
superm1is gdm still installed and being used maybe?22:39
stuartmno22:39
stuartmit's definitely using lightdm and other config options such as allow-guest=false are being honoured22:40
superm1hmm interesting22:40
stuartmah, fixed it, it didn't like "autologin-session=lightdm-autologin" which I added based on a forum post by you on the subject22:44
superm1it could be that the syntax isn't consistent among releases22:46
superm1which i think might be the case22:46
stuartmno, that didn't work, just looked like it had from the logs (I'm moving between rooms)22:46
superm1if you can go all the way up to precise on the upgrades, you should22:47
superm1then you'll be on the long term release and not have to touch for a while the infrastructure22:47
superm1and then you can sort out this lightdm problem (if it still exists) on precise22:47
stuartm[+0.60s] DEBUG: Failed to load session file /usr/share/xsessions/mythbuntu.desktop: No such file or directory:22:47
stuartmthat's the only error from the logs, not sure why though22:48
superm1oh you're missing the mythbuntu xfce session22:49
stuartmsuperm1: I will, but given how much trouble going from natty to oneric has caused, and several hours now of working on it, I need to get that machine back up and working for a day or two before I'll have time to upgrade further22:49
superm1you'll need the mythbuntu-default-settings package22:49
superm1which should have come in via mythbuntu-desktop metapackage (if you've removed that)22:49
superm1sorry to hear how much  trouble it was coming from natty to oneiric22:50
stuartmI went to pull in the -desktop package, but figured it wasn't required when it wanted to install chrome etc22:50
superm1part of the reason we want to focus on just LTS.  we might actually be able to put enough testing behind it to encourage people to upgrade from one LTS to another22:50
superm1stuartm: you can install the desktop package with --no-install-recommends22:51
stuartmsuperm1: most of the problems I had weren't mythbuntu's fault, all ubuntu and a minor mistake on my part (I think)22:51
superm1and then it won't pull in extra stuff like chrome if you don't want it22:51
superm1yeah even stuff that is ubuntu's fault, it's better that we can catch it and all work on fixing it together rather than relying on them and pointing fingers when stuff breaks22:52
stuartmsuperm1: ah, ok that's better22:52
stuartmI've still not got audio working again, that's strange since it works before I login but not afterwards :(22:52
superm1oh that's really weird22:53
superm1did pulse get pulled in somehow?22:53
stuartmno, made very sure that it's not installed22:53
stuartmanyway, slowly getting there, I'll call it a night and maybe get the remaining issues (just the audio I think) sorted tomorrow morning22:55
superm1good luck :)22:56
stuartmheh, one last reboot to test the autologin properly and audio has started working, not going to dwell on the why23:04
stuartmbut I'll need to dig out a backup of my lirc config because it seems mine has been overwritten23:04
