ScottKdebfx: Can you go through and very the fixes you included with 4.8.5 for library file overwrite issues over the weekend, so 4.8.5 can go to -updates on Monday?02:55

mah454How can do this ?06:48
debfxScottK: I don't think I can verify bugs when I'm the uploader07:37

shadeslayernope, I've put it in staging atm10:23

mparilloshadeslayer: When you wrote that the KDE SC 4.9.1 packages are in staging, does that mean you would like somebody to test applying them? I just installed a 10.4.1 virtualized image just in case.11:31
shadeslayermparillo: yus :)11:31
shadeslayermparillo: see https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/staging11:31
mparilloso I need to add a new repository to Muon?11:33
shadeslayertemporarily, yes11:33
mparilloI was going to add under Other Software ppa:kubuntu-ppa/staging11:36
mparilloBut it asks for something like deb http://...11:36
shadeslayermparillo: use : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging/ubuntu precise main 11:37
mparilloSo, I use:11:37
mparillodeb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging/ubuntu precise main 11:37
mparillo?11:37
shadeslayeryep11:37
shadeslayerI just do add-apt-repository via command line11:37
shadeslayerthat's the easiest way11:37
mparilloSo, now I have done it, and Muon shows a TON of Not Installed packages.11:39
shadeslayeraye, mark all of them for a upgrade11:39
yofelhm, software-properties *should* support ppa: syntax - or that simply isn't implemented in the KDE one (which sounds likely)11:39
yofelalso, please make sure you disable the PPA again after installing the packages11:39
shadeslayer^ that's why I said temporarily ;)11:40
yofelah right :)11:40

mparilloshadeslayer: I published the news item. It is the lead news item on http://www.kubuntu.org/12:45

tsimpsonanyone can update a news item: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-plasma-workspaces-applications-and-platform-491 <- the link to "KDE SC 4.9.1" has an extraneous double-quote one the end of the link13:09

ScottKdebfx: You can.13:25
ScottKThe only thing you can't do if you're the uploader is approve/accept the upload.13:25
ScottK(which only affects SRU team members)13:26
shadeslayertsimpson: fixed13:27
tsimpsonthanks13:28
debfxScottK: that seems a bit pointless to me since uploading should already imply that it's tested by the one who prepared the package13:35
ScottKRight, but you would have tested before the upload.  The goal is to test the actual packages in the archive in case something went astray.13:36
ScottKWe're relying on the fact that the SRU team reviews the diff for each upload.13:36
ScottKFor hardware specific stuff we might want more testing, but for something simple like thses, I think it's fine.13:37
ScottKIt would be nice if someone could verify the fixes for phonon-backend-gstreamer too.13:39
debfxok, I hope I got all file overwrite bugs13:48

Sentynelhi folks, looks like there's a minor packaging error with today's 12.04 kubuntu-backports kde update - the kopete package refuses to install due to a conflict with kopete-gcall over /usr/bin/googletalk-call. removing the kopete-gcall package and reinstalling kopete seems to fix things14:23
mparillotsimpson shadeslayer sorry about that extra double quote. Innacuarate copying and pasting, I bet.14:27
shadeslayermparillo: np14:28
ScottKshadeslayer: Is the kopete-gcall issue Sentynel mentioned from your update?16:18
ScottKdebfx: Thanks.16:18

shadeslayerhm16:19
* shadeslayer looks16:19
Sentynelkopete-gcall is a really old package apparently, and should have been long gone16:20

Sentynelhttp://pastebin.com/AHgzTaRK here's the exact error16:21

ScottKshadeslayer: If it's an old package, just add conflicts/breaks.16:22
shadeslayerScottK: yeah, that's what I was thinking16:22
ScottKObviously if you don't have the old package installed, you won't get the error.16:22
shadeslayeryep ... 16:22
shadeslayerScottK: should I also add it to quantal packages?16:24
ScottKIt went away after 4.6.16:24
ScottKSo we should add it in precise and leave quantal alone.16:24
shadeslayeralright16:24
ScottKSentynel: Would you please file a bug.16:24
ScottKshadeslayer: Would you please prepare an update to the pending 4.8.5 SRU for kdenetworking that fixes it and upload it.  I can accept it then.16:25

ScottKshadeslayer: The last version of kopete-gcall in the archive was  4:4.6.2-0ubuntu1, so your versioning is incorrect.  Since we want the package removed, just drop the version and re-upload.18:20
shadeslayerk18:21
ScottKshadeslayer: Thanks.18:32
ScottKLooking18:32
ScottKShouldn't that be Conflicts/Replaces?18:34
shadeslayeryou said Conflicts/Breaks earlier ;)18:35
shadeslayerThough since we declare Conflicts, I believe dpkg will first remove kopete-gcall18:37
shadeslayerwhich in turn will allow kopete to be unpacked without issues18:37
ScottKPlease don't assume I know what I'm talking about.18:37
ScottKIn the good old days (pre-Breaks) it would have been Conflicts/Replaces.18:37
shadeslayer:)18:38
ScottKI think this is one of the situations where you still want Conflicts.18:38
ScottKSince you want the package to go away entirely.18:38
shadeslayerAye18:38
shadeslayerScottK: long day ? :P18:39
ScottKSorry for the confusion.18:39
ScottKLong week.  Day will be a lot longer before it's done.18:39
shadeslayerah .. :)18:39
shadeslayerScottK: uh, rejected again?18:43
ScottKDidn't we decide it was wrong?18:43
ScottKBecause you made the mistake of listening to me.18:44
shadeslayerwait, I believe Conflicts removes kopete-gcall, so why the need to add Replaces?18:44
shadeslayersince the package will have been already removed, there's no file that kopete will be conflicting with18:45
ScottKNo.18:45
ScottKConflicts just says they can't both be installed at the same time.18:46
ScottKIt's the Replaces that tells dpkg to resolve the conflict by removing kopete-gcall.18:46
shadeslayerahhhh18:46
ScottKA bare conflicts will just cause one package to fail to install/upgrade.18:46
