wxlok here's a stumper. eeepc touchpad freezes up and/or acts funky after high cpu load. what fixes it? switching to VT and back. openbox --restart does NOT. any clues?06:39
bioterroradd w to the name after eee ;)06:39

bioterrorthey are really quite a pita06:41
wxli was hoping to connect enough data to file a resaonable bug report but that's just weird behavior06:41
bioterrorif you restart Xorg, does it help?06:42
wxli'll try that next time06:42
wxli find it hard to replicate the required conditions06:42
wxlc-a-backspace?06:44
bioterrorfor example06:44
bioterroror restart lightdm06:44
wxlko06:45
bioterrorprobably it is Xorg bug06:52
wxlwhen it comes to touchpad's it appears there are like 34623586286387263587642 possible packages to file the bug against, but yeah, sure.06:53
wxl;)06:53
bioterrorxf86-input-synaptics06:55

wxlthere's a whole page about it with like lots of stern warnings about you better get all the right info and make sure you're filing it against the right package or everyone will laugh at you XD06:56

Guest37383Hello13:40
Guest37383I have a suggestion to the development of Lubuntu13:41
Guest37383I set my Lubuntu settings to not ask me for my password when starting up. It doesn't do so. But (I'm using Lubuntu on my laptop) whenever I close my computer screen...13:42
Guest37383...and open it up again later to use it again, it asks me for my password to log in. This is unnecessary as one can just shut the computer off and turn it on again, therefore entering the computer without any password (as that's what I set it to do). So I don't think it needs to ask you for your password when you close the screen and open it again unless you specify.13:45
Guest37383I hope that helps some! Lubuntu is awesome! And thank you all for making it possible! I'm enjoying using it very, VERY much!13:45
bioterrorthat's becouse XScreensaver does it13:46
bioterrorit has nothing to do with logon13:46
Guest37383Oh, is that another setting?13:46
bioterroryes13:46
bioterrorscreensaver settings13:46
Guest37383Where would I find that?13:46
Guest37383Aha! Thank you!13:46
Guest37383I appreciate it!13:46
bioterrorask password after resume, or something like that13:47

ActionParsniphey guys, is there an lxpanel item I can add to make the panel act like Win7 etc? I currently have the icons at 40px and icon only so running apps have a nice big icon but when they are closed they do not stay17:40
wxlcan't say i 100% grok what you want to do ActionParsnip17:41
wxlmaybe a dock might be something to look into17:42
ActionParsnipLike pinning the app to the lxpanel, so that when it is closed, the icon stays and future instances of the same application can be started from the icon17:42
ActionParsnipwxl: yeah was thinking that, the placing thing is nice and i wanted to avoid crappy compiz17:42
wxlwell i certainly didn't say compiz ewww ac17:43
wxloops forgot a tab there. you know who i meant XD17:43
ActionParsnipaye17:43
ActionParsnipoh btw are wbar and simdock dead?17:43
ActionParsnipthey don't seem to have been updated recently....17:43
* wxl shrugs17:43
wxlplank looks kind of nice17:44
wxlor there's docky but i think that's the wrong os copy XD17:45
bioterrorhaha17:45
bioterroryou're asking quite a lot from DE that lightweight17:46
wxldid i forget to add the <sarcasm> tag?17:46
ActionParsnipbioterror: not really, just hold the icon on the panel even when it's not running17:46
ActionParsnipbioterror: nothing CPU intensive there at all17:46
bioterroryou can add launcher icons?17:47
ActionParsnipbioterror: its not the DE either, its the lxpanel17:47
ActionParsnipbioterror: yes but it loads a new instance of the icon17:47
wxli know what he's asking now bioterror17:47
bioterrorinstall somekind of stupid dock17:48
bioterroror KDE like I did :D17:48
wxlyep17:48
wxlEWWWW and you complain at him? sheesh17:48
ActionParsnipbioterror: why would holding an icon for a non-running application be hard for a lightweight DE, even though it's not the DE that manages the panel, the panel manages the panel17:48
wxl;)17:48
bioterrorhttp://ricecows.org/kubuntu/kubuntu-dirty.png17:48
bioterrorlooks like that17:48
ActionParsnipbioterror: can you explain your 'haha' comment please? It interests me17:48
bioterrorActionParsnip, people always demands so much17:49
ActionParsnipbioterror: its not that much really17:49
bioterroractually it is17:49
ActionParsnipwhen I close the app, keep the icons there if I choose to 'pin' it. Don't remove the icon17:49
ActionParsnipif an instance of the app is ran, don't draw another17:50
ActionParsnipbioterror: how is that complex, its actually reducing work drawing new icons after some simple logic17:50
bioterrorif you know that, code a lxpanel fork ;)17:51
ActionParsnipbioterror: but how is it hard / much?17:52
bioterrorit should probably show somekind of image of the open applications if there's a multiple instance17:53
bioterrorwhy dont you take just plain openbox and install cairo dock or something like that17:55
ActionParsnipdoes cairo dock need compositing?17:56
ActionParsniptrying plank now :)17:56
bioterrorwindows 7 taskbar looks quite fugly without Aero17:57
ActionParsniplooks like plank is the ticket, just needs tweaking17:58
bioterrorI'm living large with the tint2-svn17:58
bioterrorworks nicely with twinview17:59
bioterrorahh18:03
bioterrorplank is part of elementary18:03
bioterrorthey ditched the Postler18:03
bioterrorbut Geary seems interesting18:03
ActionParsnipLet me check it out :)18:04

iToasthey21:25
iToastwhats the minimal requirements for lubuntu21:25
wxliToast: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu#System_Requirements21:26
iToastwxl, not exactly helpful.21:28
wxliToast: how so?21:28
iToastIt doesn't give me exact minimals21:28
iToastim also in #xubuntu21:28
iToast128mb no GUI 256 GUI21:28
iToastIm installing ubuntu for a XBMC build for my mom21:28
wxlyou can run with a gui on 12821:29
iToastwxl, not really...21:29
iToastI've tried it...21:29
iToastGnome / KDE die horribly in 12721:29
iToast128*21:29
* wxl shrugs, so have i.21:29
wxlthere's no gnome/kde in lubuntu21:29
iToastLDE works perfectly :P21:29
iToastwxl, I know21:29
iToastI used normal ubuntu and im sick of their irc channel21:29
wxlok, well, when you figure out your question, let me know XD21:29
iToastIm banend for having a oppinion.21:30
iToastApperently thinking somone should try and look up a problem first isn't allowed21:30
iToastthen the admin went to twist the story into this:21:30
iToast"You kept repeating "Google it" after being told not to."21:30
iToastWhat I actually said, "You should google first" then I answered his question with "Lynx"21:31
iToastA text based brwosner21:31
iToastANd the lazy dick sent me to the IIRC -_-21:31
iToastStill he think's he did no wrong and never does wrong.21:31
iToastIn his eyes he can't do wrong. Multiple others agree.21:31
wxlwell, that's all fine and dandy, but i can't help you resolve how people have wrong you in the past21:31
iToastwxl, I know.21:32
iToastwxl, can't I just install a simple window manager and use XBMC?21:32
wxli can, however, point out that you're not going to fare well here or any canonical-related channel making using out of that aforementioned language21:32
iToastThe intigrated graphics are from, 2005~ they're probably intel / nvidia.21:32
iToastAmazingly they can handle HD just fine (30 FPS)21:32
wxli've never used xmbc before21:33
wxlyou might want to ask the xmbc folks21:33
iToastxbmc*21:33

wxlit appears that this is what you need http://www.loggn.de/ubuntu-xbmc-repository-11-eden-airplay-pvr-livetv/21:36
wxlnot sure what all the dependencies are tho21:37
wxlassumedly you need x, right?21:37
iToastYes21:37
iToastI dont want a full blown desktop that'l NEVER be seen.21:38
wxli dunno maybe you don't21:39
wxlhttps://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/master/docs/README.linux21:39
wxlhere's what i'd do if i were you21:39
wxldo a minimal install21:39
wxlonly install ubuntu-core/-standard21:39
wxlthat's the most basic cli21:39
wxlthen add the ppa and install the xbmc bits21:39
wxlif it needs to add stuff it will21:40
wxlif you see it wanting to add gnome and crap, cancel out and install lubuntu-core and then start over21:40
wxlor you could add your own x and all that but if you don't know what you're doing you might not enjoy it21:41
wxlmore info on that process here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/MinimalInstall21:41
wxlsound good, iToast ?21:41
iToastwxl, not really :p21:41
wxlwhatcha missing?21:41
iToastI might just install ubuntu server 12.0421:41
iToastas i got it downloaded21:41
iToastthen build on thjat21:41
wxlNO21:41
wxlDON"T DO IT21:41
iToaste.e21:41
iToastwhy?21:41
wxlunless you want a BUNCH OF GARBAGE YOU"LL NEVER USE21:41
wxl(probably never use)21:41
wxlhold on lemme demonstrate21:42
wxlyou'll be shocked21:42
iToastubuntu is pretty lean in the server distro... :P21:42
wxlthat's what i once thought21:42
wxltake a look at the size of the download21:42
wxlhere's everything included http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/ubuntu.precise/server-ship21:42
iToastnone of its installed21:43
iToastif I dont want it21:43
iToast;)21:43
wxltrue, true21:43
wxlbut core/standard will give you the leanest possible cli21:43
wxlthis is all semantics21:43
wxlyou decide what you want to do there21:43
wxlso once you have a core system you comfortable with the resT?21:43
wxlthat ppa business is more or less copy/paste21:45
wxland it will do the thinking for you re:dependencies21:45
iToastwxl, Ima use the server disk first.21:45
wxlcuz it's pulling down binaries not trying to build from source21:45
wxlyou'll be fine21:45
wxlping me if not21:45
iToastxubuntu just finished downloading,21:45
iToastLol21:45
