bjsniderpenguin42, such as what, for instance?00:11
penguin42bjsnider: bug 216537 for example00:13
ubottuLaunchpad bug 216537 in geomview (Ubuntu) "geomview 1.9.4 segfaults" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21653700:13
bjsnidergeomview?00:13
penguin42ok, no I never used it before, but it's a package still in quantal and that's reproducable00:14
phunyguywow.... doesn't make one very confident that just filed a bug... lol00:15
penguin42phunyguy: Your chances are somewhat better on main packages00:16
phunyguy=P00:16
penguin42ooh, one of my old ones fixed in quantal00:19
bjsniderthat code hasn't been touched very much00:19
bjsniderthe last time code was committed was march i guess00:19
bjsnidermost of it seems to be laying around untouched for years00:20
penguin42bjsnider: But then you take things like bug 484914  - more subtle00:20
ubottuLaunchpad bug 484914 in kdesdk (Ubuntu) "Spellcheck dialog in Kate does not work as expected" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/48491400:20
bjsniderhttp://geomview.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/geomview/geomview/00:20
bjsniderwell, now there's nobody officially paid to work on kde bugs right?00:21
bjsniderand i'm sure there are a lot of kde bugs00:21
penguin42bjsnider: the only thing that's changed is paid for people to fix kubuntu (not kde generally)00:23
penguin42(as far as I understood) and that's an upstream bug00:23
bjsniderit's an upstream bug in kate that has been there for years and is reproducible in quantal?00:25
penguin42yes00:25
penguin42bjsnider: There's some great little bitesize ones as well; like bug 305831 - 1 char typo in a man page that was reported about 4 years ago, still in quantal; of course it's not important, still a valid bug though00:27
ubottuLaunchpad bug 305831 in ftpcopy (Ubuntu) "spelling mistake in man page" [Low,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/30583100:27
bjsniderwell, that's an easy fix, you just create a patch and propose a merge using bzr00:28
penguin42and send upstream, I was in a triaging mood, so marked it, and marked it as bitesize for someone00:29
phunyguyMy ~/.gvfs folder keeps disappearing... how can I put it back? I have shares mounted but there is no gvfs folder!03:21
phunyguy__WOW...  MusicBrainz Picard (from the official repos!) AaronCampbellI have an AMD ATI Radeon 6870 video card with 4 1920x1080 monitors attached.  It was working well with the proprietary drivers in 12.04.  I didn't upgrade to 12.10, I did a complete reinstall, and now it uses the open source driver but everything is REALLY laggy (dragging windows, switching desktops, etc, etc).15:41
AaronCampbellIf anyone has any ideas what I could try, or suggestions on what additional info would help, let me know.15:44
penguin42AaronCampbell: I believe the closed driver isn't yet available on 12.10; it normally manages by release date15:52
AaronCampbellpenguin42: Do you think that will likely fix the lag?  Or do you think it's some other setting?15:57
AaronCampbellI'd love to use the open source driver (which ever worked at all for be before), but obviously the lag makes it very hard to work15:57
penguin42AaronCampbell: it's probably best to ask on #ubuntu-x or the radeon driver mailing list15:58
penguin42AaronCampbell: I use an hd4350 on the open driver with a single monitor and it's happy with KDE15:59
AaronCampbellSo many Ubuntu channels :)15:59
penguin42AaronCampbell: It might be useful to check just which driver it's using15:59
AaronCampbellpenguin42: How can I check that?15:59
penguin42AaronCampbell: In system settings-Xdetails what does it say for 'Graphics' ?15:59
edgypenguin42: ping16:01

AaronCampbellsettings-Xdetails -> "command not found" and I don't see anythign like that in system settings16:02
penguin42AaronCampbell: Oops16:02
penguin42AaronCampbell: Sorry, bring up system settings and then go to details16:02
penguin42my > tends to get mashed into X by synergy16:02
AaronCampbellAhh, under "Graphics" Driver says "Unknown16:02
penguin42hmm odd16:02
edgypenguin42: I'm back, i would file the samba bug now so you can confirm it, please16:03
penguin42AaronCampbell: Can you get /var/log/Xorg.0.log to a paste bin?16:03
penguin42edgy: Sure, just say    bug ..... where ..... is the number and I'll do it16:03
AaronCampbellpenguin42: http://pastebin.com/i1RiJnHi16:05
* penguin42 looks16:08
penguin42AaronCampbell: Well there are no errors in there, and it seems to be using the open source radeon driver, so it's doing the right thing - just slowly16:10
* penguin42 really should treat himself to another monitor16:10
penguin42AaronCampbell: An interesting thing to try that might be interesting would be is it still laggy on one monitor ?16:11
AaronCampbellpenguin42: I didn't notice the lag when the monitors were mirrored.  I could go back to that and try16:12
penguin42AaronCampbell: I suspect 4 monitors is an unusual (but very nice) config; so it might not have been tried much, but if you can nail it down to 'it works fine with 2 but breaks with more' type of bug then it would be worth filing the bug16:14
AaronCampbellpenguin42: It works fine with 4 when they're mirrored16:15
penguin42AaronCampbell: http://lists.x.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg-driver-ati    or ask on there if you're feeling enthusiastic, I'd hope the closed drivers land before full release16:16

penguin42edgy: Confirmed it and marked it as a medium16:20
penguin42edgy: I've marked it as medium on the basis the problem is just a default config file problem - if it actually turns out that it's not just the config file that's broke then it should probably be moved higher16:20

AaronCampbellUnder the little gear icon in the top right in 12.04 there was an option to set startup applications.  Where is that in 12.10?16:29

penguin42edgy: I'm not sure, I think it just doesn't like me16:29

penguin42edgy: It's been a while16:31

AaronCampbelltrism: Thanks.  Hopefully they put it back into the gui somewhere, but it seems to be working fine now that I know the command :)16:36
