akhilahello. testing quantal desktop. After successfully installing it, when I logged in, I could see Amazon icon on the launcher. after i clicked it once, I was properly directed to the Amazon  site but the icon disappeared altogether from the launcher. could that be a bug?10:15

smartboyhw;P13:40
balloonswhew.. conversion script is almost ready15:21
xnoxIs mago project still alive?15:39
xnoxand used in ubuntu?15:39
balloonsxnox, to my knowledge no15:39
balloonsara can likely give the info on it's status15:40
balloonsand history15:40
xnoxballoons: there is some code in ubiquity to run tests under LDTP and possibly mago.... but I have no clue how to run those.15:42
* xnox really really wants gui testing of ubiquity15:42
balloonsahh.. that's a different story then15:42
* balloons also wants more gui testing15:42
robotfuelI have some gui tests of ubiquity15:43
robotfuelI used xpresser to do it15:43
robotfuelhttps://launchpad.net/xpresser15:44
robotfuelIf you are interested we hangout in #xpresser15:44
robotfuelthere is a video of xpresser in action here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-xxBBPU9kU15:46
* balloons watching video15:47
balloonsI've messed about with sikuli with ideas likes this15:47
balloonsimho, making hashes of the pixels in the box instead of screenshots would be better15:48
robotfuelballoons: xpresser is a clean room rewrite of xpresser, it's better because it runs on arm15:48
xnoxrobotfuel: ?!15:49
robotfuelballoons: I mean  xpresser is a clean room rewrite of skiuli15:49
robotfuelheh15:49
balloonswow.. wonder how I missed that15:49
robotfuelsikuli even15:49
xnoxballoons: launch orca & add audio recorder & compare audio record =)15:52
xnoxalso recording video of the run would be great to later "view" the failures.15:53
* xnox like15:53
balloonsindeed..15:53
xnoxrobotfuel: did you say you had something for ubiquity already?15:53
balloonsthis needs to be able to watch for on-screen changes, read pixel colors, and use hashes :-)15:54
robotfuelxnox: yes, it's for oem-config which is a little different than ubiquity.15:54
xnoxrobotfuel: where?15:54
balloonsan automated oem install/15:54
balloons?15:55
robotfuelballoons: yes15:55
xnoxwhere? where? where? is it in jenkins yet?15:55
* balloons thinks you made xnox REALLY excited..15:58
robotfuelthe code is not public, was for an OEM.   it requires an older version of xpresser because it didn't have special keypress support when I wrote it. I will update it put it on my launchpad page15:58
xnoxfair enough.15:58
robotfuelxnox: I'll ping you when I upload it15:59
balloonsrobotfuel, is there ideas for further features? ala, what I mentioned..15:59
robotfuelballoons: you can make a blueprint or we can accept a merge request if you have a patch :)16:00
balloonsxnox, for ubiquity, I imagine writing the script to test it would be straightforward.. it's more the infrastructure around running and reporting it I'd guess16:00
=== tubadaz_ is now known as tubadaz
xnoxballoons: as long as utah boots ubiquity-cd with the right amount of disks, I can fake the rest of the setup I need on the disks, to exercise ubiquity.16:01
xnoxballoons: and as long as utah will let me reboot the vm, I'm fine.16:01
balloonsxnox, I already have ideas on how I would want to write such tests for long-term maintaince16:02
balloonsanyways.. this is like early xmas.. have to get through the work for this cycle first :-)16:02
xnoxballoons: maybe we should discuss this a bit further =) cause I had some ideas as well.16:03
xnoxballoons: are you at uds-r?16:03
balloonsxnox, yes16:03
robotfuelI used an upstart job to start my xpresser script that ran through oem-config.16:03
balloonsmm.. your using pyatspi16:03
balloonsrobotfuel, ok, so how's performance, given your taking physical screenshots? (I was wondering if you had something special to get x buffer access)16:04
robotfuelballoons: export DISPLAY=:016:06
balloonsxnox, yes I think we should discuss @ UDS.. but we could do mockups before that I'm sure16:06
balloonsohh.. window manipulation is a must as well16:07
jibelballoons, xnox did you look at https://launchpad.net/autopilot ?16:09
balloonsthanks for sharing robotfuel.. neat stuff16:09
balloonsjibel, yes I also know of autopilot, but I've not seen the latest stuff they have16:09
jibelfor UI testing I think it's a very valid option, not sure how mature glib support is but it's a great tool16:09
* xnox too many frameworks....16:10
jibeland too few working correctly16:10
balloonsutah needs to bind them all :-)16:11
balloonsanyways, safe to say xnox something will happen with this next cycle16:12
balloonsdholbach is also working with pitti on similar things..16:12
xnoxhmm....16:12
* balloons goes back the conversions16:13

balloonswhew, ok, I think most of the isotracker testcases are migrated now to the new dt/dd format18:09
balloonsthis is an example: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/238/builds/24168/testcases/1301/results. Notice we have bolding and italics now for action, expected result18:10
balloonslet me know if anyone is finding old legacy testcases looking like this: This is a legacy testcase, content is only available here: http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cases18:10

phillwI've just replied to warren.18:45
phillwi do think it is corrupt install media.18:46
phillwlooks like a respin for Desktop images is in the works.18:47
adeHey all, how's testing going?18:57
balloonshello adam_g18:59

phillwhiyas ade18:59
balloonshello ade18:59
phillwlol.. DYAC :)18:59
adeHey, phillw, balloons18:59
adephillw: Updated my wiki with some basic info today! Nothing special but it's a start. Many thanks for setting that up for me again :o)19:07
phillwade: yvw, with the disapearance of the mentoring system, just ask if you want assistance on anything.19:09
adephillw: Cheers phill, that's very much appreciated.19:14
adeImage almost burnt, then getting stuck into the beta 2 tests. Lot's of activity in the testcases during today which is very good to see!19:35
balloons:-)19:36
phillwade: yeah, balloons has been busy doing the conversions to the new css theme :)19:36
balloonslet me know if you notice anything off on them19:36
adeballoons: lol, should be ok today as have my testing head on :oP19:37
phillwballoons: this could be fun, they've put off the desktop respins until tomorrow. Nice to see lots of testing time left for QA :P19:38
adeMight have found a general bug already... or shall I say it found me! Plugged usb headphones in, switched to profile in sound manager, no sound... then push volume up to 25%, no sound.... push volume over 30%...19:45
adeubuntu-bugs bleeding ears19:45
yofeldid someone else notice that when you hover over a bug in some cases not the whole tooltip is visible in the browser window? Happens when I hover over the 'bugs to look for' list. http://people.ubuntu.com/~yofel/pics/qa_tt.png19:45
balloonsyofel, yes19:46
balloonsactually there is a bug for it19:46
yofelok :)19:46
* balloons wonders why we didn't fix that in the lst round of updates19:46
balloonshttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-qa-website/+bug/103550319:47
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1035503 in Ubuntu QA Website "Bug description yellow boxes exceed browser window dimensions." [Low,Confirmed]19:47
yofelfeature ;P19:47
balloonsyea, it works for me, but I'm guessing if you have a smaller screen it could get cut off if the width isn't wide enough19:48
yofelwell, happens with firefox maximized to 1600px width here, so can't be that rare19:49
balloonsyofel, lol.. I have 2560 pixels19:49
yofelok, I can't keep up with that. Largest that I have here is 1920 ^^19:50
balloonslololol.. works on my box ;-) not really, yea, but thanks for reporting19:50
balloonsnjin!19:50
balloonsthe man himself19:50
adeballoons: New testcases are great and look great too20:02
balloonsglad you like them.. knome and stgraber were a big part.. as was everyone else who helped migrate them :-)20:03
knome:)20:03
yofelthey do look nice indeed, nice work :)20:03
njinballoons, hallo, it's too late, see you tomorrow20:50
njinballoons, can you take a look at the bugs i've reported in the unity track, because I think that as usual ubuntu became unstable around beta2 release and i've got to refresh it '20:51
adeIs there a way to report a bug during the install process? aka during the unity install process.20:55
adeCan anyone reproduce this... press space during 'amber screen' > select language > then select 'Install Ubuntu' .... the following screen with select language installation is blank.21:00
ade*'installation language' even21:00
adeOh, on Ubuntu 12.10 lol21:01
balloonsade, what do you mean?21:05
adeAm getting a blank ubiquity screen during install... the steps above recreate how I got to it in Ubuntu 12.1021:07
balloonsblank as in completely blank?21:07
balloonsno buttons? no text?21:08
adeHas the language select list on the left, but the screen on the right is completely blank21:08
balloonsthat sounds ok21:08
balloonsyou have buttons?21:08
balloons suppose a screenshot would help here ;-)21:08
adescreenshot coming up, 2 mins...21:09
adeNewbie question... Best way to upload a screenshot??21:12
phillwade: I use http://imagebin.org/index.php?page=add21:15
phillwthen just pop the link on here :)21:15
adephillw: Thanks phill, not advisable to send files through irc then? Rick click on name and 'send a file'21:17
phillwade it's easier to just pop them on there, they autodelete after 14 days.21:17
phillwI don't know if ubuntu have a version of their own outside of the wiki system.21:18
adeMakes sense, I use pastebin a lot so imagebin makes a lot of sense lol21:18
adeballoons: http://imagebin.org/22980121:18
balloonsade, yep, that21:19
balloonsahh.. I saw you dcc snow21:20
balloonsheh21:20
balloonsi think I auto bounce them21:20
balloonsso ade, that looks correct to me21:20
balloonsif your connected to the inet, you should see a note about the release notes21:20
adelol yeah tried. Ok then cool, always good to check first :o)21:21
adeand yes, release notes text and links display ok with a inet connection21:23
phillwballoons: can you quickly check if this is a general ubiquity issue "But there is a Ubiquity issue on the 'Preparing to Install Lubuntu Screen' the is plugged to a power source is missing" as per step 3 of http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/testcases/1301/info21:30
balloonsphillw, ahh21:31
balloonsare you on a laptop?21:31
phillwI am, but not got a recent image to test. it's come in via L-QA21:32
phillwI'll pull in the lubuntu 64 bit tonight (it takes ~ 4 hours to grab an image)21:33
adeRight that's me done for the evening. Managed to break out of the Ubuntu mandatory tests and do a couple (all-be-it, very easy) run-once tests. Thanks for your patience and advice, am starting to get to grips with the basics of QA testing!21:33

phillwballoons: then we need to edit the test case :)21:38
balloonsphillw, be my guest good sir21:44
balloonsyou can see the new goodness in there21:44

phillwyeah, I'm on it... just dealing with a wiki-editor job :P21:45
balloonsthx phillw21:52

phillwballoons: edit done22:16
balloonsty phillw22:33
wxlam i the only one that finds the live session suggestion to "use and execute the default applications" kind of vague. are we supposed to follow some specific procedure? just open them?22:42
phillwballoons: hopefully bug 1056473 is a real short lived bug :)22:51
ubot5Launchpad bug 1056473 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "On the screen Preparing to install FAMILY,Is plugged to a power source is missing." [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/105647322:51
phillwwxl: the test once cases for lubuntu have not yet been started. they are planned! (Near the bootom of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/QuantalTestcaseUpdates ) :)22:53
xnoxphillw: how was it tested?22:53
xnoxit will only be visible in the power-source capable systems where we can detect this.22:53
xnoxe.g. real metal laptops, on which laptop-detect worked. Or for example I saw either VMWare or Oracle's virtualbox export laptop-mode/battery levels to the quantal live CD22:54
phillwxnox: I have asked the OP to confirm if it was a desktop or laptop he was installing on. from my chat with balloons it would seem likely it was a desktop, in which case it was the test case that had the error.22:54
xnoxphillw: ok, let me peak at the logs.22:55
phillwhence my comments on the bug.22:55
wxlphillw: sooooooooo this isn't just generic for everything? i'm still confused about these new testcases. i guess i'll open every app22:55
balloonswxl, the live session tests are really bad :-)22:55
wxlballoons: so maybe i'll just do nothing XO22:55
phillwwxl: when you have time, you will be taking the time to write test cases for lubuntu specific apps :D22:56
balloonsI gutted them mostly while converting to css and left basically a call to test22:56
wxlomg thx phillw22:56
balloonsif you boot the live session now, the understanding is to play around and smoke test22:56
wxli have no clue how to test ibus, just for the record22:56
phillwwxl: that is why I have pencilled in 13.04 for ours!22:57
wxlok system profiler is funky. seems to work but lots of empty dialogs22:57
phillwnot a snow-flake in hells chance of getting them done for 12.10 :)22:57
wxlnp np22:58
wxlhowever it was you that got me all excited about the new tracker ad test cases phillw XD22:58
phillwwxl: yes, we have a new system that can be updated and accepts user contributions. This is a major change to how things work!22:59
phillwwhich reminds me, I have to update the instructions..... drat :P22:59
phillwahh well, 3 hours still remaining to grab the 64 bit lubuntu alternate iso. It's midnight here.... sounds like a good time to go to bed :)23:02
phillwcatch you all later!23:03
wxll8s23:03
phillwballoons: can you check with riddel / scott to see if they're happy to use the alternate iso test cases for kubuntu. They are distro agnostic, so there shouldn't be a problem but I'd prefer one of them gave the okay.23:06
phillwand now... for bed :D23:06
