The administration has asked me for help in specifying a lab teacher. Is there any documentation or past experience available to help them?" [17:05] did someone just ask us for specifications for a teacher!? [18:56] Alkisg suggested that I ask my question here and not at the ltsp forum as it was pointed out to me that my question concerned users [18:57] rather than clients, so here goes [18:57] I have to add about a 130 users on to an 12.04 ltsp system. [18:59] I shall probably do this in batches of 30 . I can see how it is possible to set up a default group for the student group, is there anyway to set a default password which at first use [18:59] has to be changed by the user [19:02] The intention is to create a single group so that I can assign a particular menu for [19:03] the student group, and if I can force the students to enter their own passwords in it saves the problem of collecting them and entering them in manually. [19:08] Which tool do you plan to use? [19:10] Hi Alkisg, Not made my mind up but it seem sto me that if I could have a file [19:11] which contained the default student information then this could be picked up by whatever I used [19:13] Sure, that is possible [19:13] How about the forcing of the user to enter a password [19:14] That's possible too [19:14] Can you point me in the right direction [19:14] I did, yesterday [19:15] But you need to select a tool to use [19:15] If you can script, then adduser can do anything you want [19:15] If you can't, check the newusers man page [19:16] If you don't like manpages, select one of the web based user management tools [19:16] Ok thank you, I shall examine both [19:17] Also, I suggested asking in #ubuntu, not #edubuntu, [19:17] as user creation is not edubuntu specific, so you might get more help there (more users) [19:17] Thank you again. [19:18] You're welcome [19:20] Davew_: also, for just 30 users, you could do it with the small preinstalled gnome users management tool
