skd5anertgm4883: can you tell me a little bit about how mythfrontend gets launched?  How is it automated/scripted?00:07
skd5anerI don't use mythbuntu, I'm just trying to mimic some of it manually00:08
qwebirc73575Hi... How does one get the latest 0.26 update?  Does it automatically pushed out if you are running 0.25?02:09
qwebirc73575will try to get info on line later.. Thanks.02:19

jrb^Greetings!21:35
jrb^I have a Hauppauge HVR 950Q tuner that I am having some problems with.21:36
jrb^The maintainer of the modules for this tuner have made a couple of small changes to it that are committed.21:37
jrb^How do I influence the kernel maintainers for ubuntu 12.04 to back port the changes to the 3.2 kernel being used for mythbuntu 12.04?21:38
jrb^Currently, when using mythtv with the drivers as is, It causes a kernel data dump, and kills mythtv-backend.21:39
tgm4883jrb^, just want to make sure I understand what you are saying. You want to have the kernel maintainers take the changes in the mythbuntu 12.04 kernel and apply them to the ubuntu 12.04 kernel?21:42
EdMarxHello I have a few questions in regards to setting up mythtv Anybody there/21:43
* tgm4883 hides21:43
EdMarxhides?21:43
tgm4883EdMarx, ask your question21:44
EdMarxI really want to use mythbuntu. Right now I don't have cable or the cable cards. So I was planning on using it to manage the music and videos I already have. Does this make sense?21:45
tgm4883EdMarx, if you plan on expanding later to use a tuner card, then yes21:45
EdMarxYes I do. on that note do I need cable to get live tv? what about watching tv on the internet like sidereel.com or hulu21:46
tgm4883You would need some source for live tv (be it cable, satellite, antenna)21:47
tgm4883I don't think hulu works, and I'm unsure what sidereel.com is, but you might want to look at the mythtv plugin mythnetvision21:47
jrb^I was referring to the ubuntu kernel maintainers that would port the changes made to the ubuntu kernel21:47
EdMarxOk So by default it has storage groups of videos, pictures, etc. I want to have an easily accessible gui that says Movies and TV-Shows just like it says videos21:48
tgm4883jrb^, I'd probably just try emailing the maintainer of wherever the modules live21:48
tgm4883so if they are in the kernel, you would need to email the kernel maintainers21:48
EdMarxI have made a storage group called movies and made the directory /var/lib/mythtv/movies. Am i on the right track?21:49
jrb^the maintainer of the modules has committed the changes to the mainstream kernel.. 3.5.something..21:50
tgm4883EdMarx, I suppose, although there isn't really  a need to create a directory for /movies, you could just use the /videos dir21:50
jrb^so I would need to find out who maintains the 3.2 kernel for ubuntu21:50
tgm4883jrb^, right, but you would need to talk to the ubuntu kernel-team (eg. the maintain of the ubuntu package linux-image-*)21:50
EdMarxI want to keep them separate tough.21:50
tgm4883jrb^, ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com21:50
jrb^ah ok.21:51
jrb^thanks21:51
jrb^i'll visit that list21:51
tgm4883jrb^, yw. That is my best guess from http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/linux-image-3.2.0-23-generic21:51
Zinn[packages.ubuntu.com] Ubuntu -- Details of package linux-image-3.2.0-23-generic in precise21:51
tgm4883EdMarx, what is the difference between /videos and /movies?21:52
EdMarxvideos would imply any video material i want to be able to navigate to a "Tv Show" icon when I want to watch prerecorded tv programs and navigate to a "Movie" icon when I want to watch movies21:53
tgm4883EdMarx, there are basically two sections  1) Recordings - which has all recorded content  2) Videos - Which has all content from your videos storage group21:54
jrb^tgm4883, thanks! I visited that page, and subscribed.21:54
tgm4883There might be a way to create a menu entry to jump to a certain place in the Videos section, but I've never tried it21:55
EdMarxOk so where it says screenshots, pictures, music, fan art… can I not just add another directory there and make an icon for it so when I am on the fronted I can just navigate there?21:55
tgm4883EdMarx, no, the frontend has no knowledge of those directories21:56
tgm4883the frontend just asks the backend for content21:56
EdMarxok well I will try this if not oh well. another problem i am having is I want to be able to input a flash drive21:56
EdMarxand have the screen allow me to sent that content to a hard drive21:57
EdMarxcan I do this from the frontend?21:57
tgm4883maybe with a custom user job21:57
EdMarxwhat is that21:57

EdMarxk21:58
EdMarxhow do you import media into your mythbuntu box?21:59
tgm4883I rip it on my backend21:59
EdMarxOk maybe that is th way I should do it.22:00
EdMarxSo do you have tv shows and movies that you have ripped ?22:00
tgm4883yea22:01
EdMarxwhen you are watching tv how to you separate the shows from the movies?22:02
tgm4883a few things22:03
tgm4883I don't record movies, only tv shows22:04
tgm4883the tv shows that I have ripped are separate from my recorded tv show22:04
tgm4883so to get to them, I go into videos22:04
tgm4883and inside that, there is a movies folder and a television folder22:04
EdMarxoh there is?22:05
tgm4883yea, by default it's not but there are a few different settings to set in there22:05
tgm4883I chose the one that makes two folders there22:05
EdMarxnot to be a pain but how did you22:05
EdMarx do that?22:05
tgm4883EdMarx, I'll have to go home and look. I think there is just a different view to change it to22:06
tgm4883let me see if I can look on my test VM here22:06
EdMarxok. i don't want to trouble you22:06
tgm4883found it22:07
tgm4883once in there, you hit M then choose Browse By22:07
tgm4883then select TV/Movies22:07
EdMarxonce in the front end22:08
EdMarx?22:08
tgm4883yea22:08
tgm4883once in the videos section22:08
EdMarxok22:08
EdMarxI know.. i have a lot of questions but… how do you rip the movies to the videos folder?22:09
EdMarxwait22:09
EdMarxnevemind22:09
EdMarxtgm4883: still there?22:57
tgm4883for a few minutes22:57
EdMarxI'm in the fronted and in videos. I see the video I put on HD. it gives me media information and says play yet when I click play nothing happens. codecs?22:58
tgm4883doubtful. what does the /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log say22:58
EdMarxchecking.. fyi even with vlc player without fronted guy still dint work22:59
EdMarxit says a lot of things23:02
EdMarxam I supposed to be looking for anything inparticular23:02
tgm4883pastebin them23:03
tgm4883and the backend logs too23:03
tgm4883although if VLC can't play it either, I'd say it's an issue with the file23:03
