kb9ylwIs there an easy way to configure Xubuntu to "print" to a PostScript file, for later printing elsewhere?00:04
recon_lapkb9ylw: should be, think print to pdf is built in00:04
* kb9ylw tries it00:05
recon_lapkb9ylw: just print to file00:05
kb9ylwThat'll work. Thanks!00:07
kb9ylwI honestly didn't expect that to work out of the box.00:07

xubuntu395Aight, anyone have a minute?  I'm having some problems with my internet connection on my xubuntu machine.01:11
recon_lapxubuntu395: sure, what the problem01:12
xubuntu395Aight, I'm not getting any connection to the cable modem.  The card  is an nVidia 10/100/1000 network card.  Dual booting with windows 7, which is establishing a connection.01:13
xubuntu395I have a feeling its a driver issue but nVidia drivers are available with Xubuntu distros, right?01:14
kb9ylwxubuntu395: Do you have just the one computer plugged into your modem?01:14
xubuntu395Two01:14
kb9ylwxubuntu395: via a router?01:14
xubuntu395No, in the modem01:15
kb9ylwbrb01:15
kb9ylwHow are they connected to the modem?01:16
xubuntu395Ethernet cable.01:16
xubuntu395Cat501:16
kb9ylwxubuntu395: Does the modem have two LAN ports on it then?01:17
xubuntu395If this helps:  It cropped up during the last batch of updates.  I've rolled as far back as 11.10, but no luck01:17
xubuntu395401:17
kb9ylwAh, so it's a modem with a built-in router then.01:17
xubuntu395_sorry, got disconnected01:19
kb9ylwAh, so it's a modem with a built-in router then.01:19

recon_lapxubuntu395_: no worries, just a couple of questions about the card, is it new, did it work before, are you trying to get a wired connection or wireless connection?01:38
xubuntu395_it's about as old as the mother board (about 5 years now methinks), it worked before the last set of updates for 12.04, and trying to get a wired connection01:39
xubuntu395_I'm running 11.10 now since I first tried rolling back01:40
exhugohi there01:40
exhugoIt is not possible drag and drop items in xubuntu's 12.10 beta2 main menu editor01:41

xubuntu395_I had 12.04, tried using the old disk (which was scratched), tried burning new 12.04 disks which kept crashing (3 of them in a row), and went back to 11.10 disk01:43
recon_lapxubuntu395_: ok, so you got 11.10 now, you had a bad 12.04 install, and you started from11.10 originally with working wired connection?01:46
xubuntu395_yes.01:46
recon_lapxubuntu395_: bit stumped, seems like every thing OS wise is ok as far as i can see. you got a driver. need to find some more information01:52

xubuntu395_think it was network status issue.  Started working when I was wonking with /etc/init.d/networking02:18
recon_lapxubuntu395_: but will it stay fixed02:18
zyltoidnetworking should be off (stopped) if you're using network-manager02:18

libanyone know how i can completely remove xubuntu xfce and replace it with linux mint xfce without losing my home, download, music, etc folders?13:48
bazhangthe mint installer should be able to keep it. ask in mintsupport to be sure13:49
bazhang!mintsupport | lib13:49
ubottulib: Linux Mint is not a supported derivative of Ubuntu. Please seek support in #linuxmint-help on irc.spotchat.org13:49
TheSheepor just back them up13:49
bazhangor move to a separate partition13:49
libyah i dont want to move any files. wouldnt it be easy to replace xubuntu with mint13:51
recon_laplib: it's a bit rude looking for help in xubuntu irc channel to leave to go to mint! Do you not think that you should ask in the mint channel?13:55
liblol13:58
libim using xchat and the default server is xubuntu13:58
David-Alib: it should be possible. but the details what to do in the mint installer is best asked in a mint channel. tell them if you have home in a separate partitions. or set up a separate home partition before installing it.13:59
David-Alib: you can change what chat channel to open by default.13:59

rogue780hi. I'm trying to install Xubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Poweredge SC440 onto a fresh WD 1TB drive. I install successfully (using alternate xubuntu installer), and grub installs successfully with grub-install /dev/sda. When the computer restarts, it says it cannot find a bootable drive. Does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this?23:52
