Newkpsilo23: you might have some people that are more helpfull on audio in #opensourcemusicians00:01
gharzguys, i'm trying to install the driver for my wireless card... in ubuntu it automatically runs an app that install restricted drivers... how do i do this? i can't seem to find an option for restricted drivers03:45
holsteingharz: you could look in "software sources" for it... some of the spins have a tab there03:49
gharzholstein: ok. i'll look into that. thanks!03:50
holsteingharz: what card? some broadcom? ...maybe just manually install ... sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer03:50
holsteinhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx assuming thats your card03:51
gharzuhmmm... i have to check... i use lspci right to check my card?03:51
holsteingharz: you can03:51
gharzholstein: 02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express [14e4:1693] (rev 02)03:52
gharz04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)03:52
gharzbcm431203:52
holsteingharz: if you check that link i gave, you'll see how to make sure its for the card03:53
holsteinlooks like you can run those commands i gave... assuming they are still named the same and in the repos03:53
holsteinsudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter  firmware-b43-installer03:54
gharzholstein: thanks!03:54
holsteingharz: sure.. you might need to reboot... i have had a few just start working though03:54
gharzholstein: do i need to instal bcmwl-kernel-source?03:57
gharzor did you just intsall b43-fwcutter and firnware-bf43-installer?03:57
holsteingharz: if you have a minute, read the link i gave04:01
holsteinbcmwl-kernel-source is for the sta driver... i linked the other because i have had less issues with it04:01
holsteinyour mileage may vary...04:01
gharzholstein: i have installed bcmwl-kernel-source and it looked good. i can see some wifi now. :)04:02

Usersis this the official lubuntu support IRC channel?08:20
NUCLEARWINTERUsers, yes08:21
NUCLEARWINTERatleast they mention this place in installer ;)08:22
UsersThanks NUCLEARWINTER, I was a bit confused08:22
fomg-optimizeHi there people! It seems https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveCDNetboot automation script is broken in quantal08:24
fomg-optimizeBeen enjoying it A LOT with my computer with locked EUFI only supporting net and HDD boot :)08:24
NUCLEARWINTERfomg-optimize, that is probably out of date08:24
fomg-optimizeYeah, but luckily it worked up until quantal, I like being lazy :)08:25
fomg-optimizeSo how would I go about reporting it properly?08:25
NUCLEARWINTERyes08:25
NUCLEARWINTERyou should make a launchpad bug08:26
fomg-optimizeIs there a launchpad bug report for dummies guide?08:26
fomg-optimizeSo as to avoid usual mistakes08:26
NUCLEARWINTERhttp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/08:27
NUCLEARWINTERyou took all the files from here?08:27
NUCLEARWINTERI would rather use the real netboot files, instead of playing around with those08:28
fomg-optimizeYeah, I probably should, but the automation script is so incready smooth08:28
fomg-optimizeIn fact it is the one thing keeping me from moving to Arch linux08:29
fomg-optimizeSince I have been ahaving huge amount of issues with the built in PXE on this machine08:29
NUCLEARWINTERbeen a while since I had a PXE in my home network08:31
fomg-optimizeUnderstandable, I would lofe to avoid it if I could08:32
fomg-optimizeAnd only use it for fun08:32
NUCLEARWINTERI found booting from USB sticks faster ;)08:33
fomg-optimizeOh, how I miss that08:33
fomg-optimizeI love coroporate policy that forces users to stay with windows08:33
fomg-optimizeDUe to... security08:33
Users>:o08:34
fomg-optimizeYep, the lock the EUFI to stop you from installing any new os08:34
fomg-optimizeHence the PXE boot-install workaround08:34
Userssome one cracked it?08:36
fomg-optimizeAh, this is just a business laptop that has boot options locked, what I believe you are referring to is the Win 8 lockdown?08:37
fomg-optimizeDo not believe it is cracked yet, but the hardware is not out08:37
Usersdoes EUFI prevent us from booting from USB stick?08:44
AscavasaionAnyone know why Nautilus 3.4.2 shows all filenames highlighted in grey and the other columns in the more acceptable white background?08:49
NUCLEARWINTERnope08:49
NUCLEARWINTERwe use pcmanfm08:49
AscavasaionNUCLEARWINTER: I also used PCManFM, but it keeps crashing while I am using it at different times and different scenarios.08:50
Userschange you theme may works08:50
AscavasaionUsers: Aaaaah, okay,,, let me try :)08:51
AscavasaionUsers: You were correct... I changed the Widgets in Customise Look And Feel.08:57
UsersAscavasaion: some styles do looks weired with some applications09:00
AscavasaionUsers: Yes, very weird hehehe09:00
AscavasaionI keep getting these errors, and when I want to report it it lists openbox as the culprit.  any idea how I can sort that out?  Another lightweight desktop manager?09:19
AscavasaionI thought Lubuntu used LXFE? Not Openbox.09:19

Users1Hi, I got lubuntu 12.10 installed. But after reboot, there is only CUI, and with startx, I got this "no screen found"15:23
Users1Any idea on how to bring lxde back?15:25

GridCubequestion, a guy on #ubuntu-es is using lubuntu and all his gtk themings are blocked, its there a way to fix that?15:41
GridCubehe says he installed kubuntu and he changed the themes with the kde gtk theme changer?15:42

mukihello15:45
UsersI got lubuntu 12.10 installed. But after reboot, there is only CUI, and with startx, I got this "no screen found", any idea on how to fix it?15:46
mukii'm trying to force my wlan rate to 54mbit with sudo iwconfig eth1 rate 54m, but it says command not found15:46
GridCubeyes if he uses the qt program it changes the gtk themes15:47
mukityping iwconfig directly to terminal shows connections without errors. what's up with this?15:48
UsersGridCube:??just run some qt based program changes the theme?15:50
Kihokkimuki, eth1 is not wifi interface15:51
GridCubeUsers, thats not an optimal solution15:52
Kihokkimuki try putting  iwconfig rate only15:52
mukistill says command not found15:53
mukiahh. just some pasting issues. sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54m accepted withoud errors NOR comfirmation15:55
Userssorry, what I am trying to say is that some qt program changes the theme or the guy changes it manually15:55
mukitho it still says bit rate:65Mb/s in properties15:55
Kihokkimuki, Maybe you need to turn wifi off and on or restart your pc?15:56
mukiKihokki: wifi reconnect made it change to 150Mb/s???15:57
mukithough it's working beautifully now, but it isn't supposed to do that15:57
Kihokkimuki, Well try now running a test at  http://speedtest.net :p15:57
mukiNo flash because no HW acceleration under linux is supported for this chip15:59
GridCubeUsers, yep pretty much15:59
Kihokkimuki, Which chip?16:00
mukiKihokki: Allwinner A10 with A8 cortex 1ghz and mali400 gpu16:01
Users I got lubuntu 12.10 installed. But after reboot, there is only CUI, and with startx, I got this "no screen found", any idea on how to fix it?16:03
Kihokkimuki, I think these drivers will make it work if anyone here is able to tell him these can be installed http://limadriver.org/16:03
mukiKihokki: using those drivers is a hell-of-a-job and still no hw accel16:04
mukitho it may enable 2d acceleration under gpu. not sure16:04
KihokkiBetter than nothing16:05
mukiTried downloading a null file and still max 140kB/s16:09
mukiChecked sudo iwconfig wlan0 and rate is back to 65Mb/s. Is there a way to force it using only wireless-g?16:10
mukiAnyone?16:10
Random832Is there a way to permanently save my lxterminal settings, e.g. font size?16:14

nkg5I have problem with installation of lubuntu 12.10. whatever I chose(try/install) I get cursor blinking and it stops there.18:31
NUCLEARWINTERtry alternate18:32
menethorilIt is normal for a hang to occur then.  How long did you wait?18:32
nkg5well few minutes (maybe 15-20)18:33
menethorilEither a faulty ISO or a hardware compatability issue with the graphical installation.  Check the MD5/SHA-1 sum of the ISO, and if it checks out, try the alternate (non-graphical) installation CD instead.18:34
nkg5thanks I will try alternate cd tomorrow. and my hardware is realy old (but previous version worked)18:36
menethorilIf that is the case, be sure to try the checksums.  If 12.04 worked, 12.10 shouldn't have any issues.18:36
nkg5how to do checksum?18:37
menethorilWhile running Linux, just run "md5sum /path/to/iso"18:38
menethorilCompare the number to the md5sum given on the Lubuntu website.18:38
nkg5it's same...18:54
* nkg5 is using a GT-I5500 running Android 2.3.7 (Sony HD)18:55
nkg5I used previous version without problem but I don't remember was it 12.4 or 11.1018:57

ubottuUsually, there is no single "best" application to perform a given task. It's up to you to choose, depending on your preferences, features you require, and other factors. Do NOT take polls in the channel. If you insist on getting people's opinions, ask BestBot in #ubuntu-bots.19:35
toterHi everybody. I have Lubuntu 12.04 installed on my netbook and I want to upgrade to 12.10. On Update Manager, it says that there's a new Ubuntu release '12.10' available, not a Lubuntu release… Can I upgrade and expect to have Lubuntu 12.10 installed?19:40
