janimomorphis, pong09:07
morphisjanimo: saw you did the the linux-firmware package for the nexus709:08
janimomorphis, right, added the google nexus binaries needed for wifi and bluetooth in the regular linux-image package09:08
morphisjanimo: ok, you thought about the licensing stuff?09:08
morphisas I am a little bit confused wether it's allowed to redistribute the binaries09:09
janimomorphis, yes. It is not clear yet, hence it is not in the main archives09:09
janimowaiting for some decisions from above09:09
janimomorphis, it is blurry indeed09:09
morphisok, I have the same issue over at the webos-ports project (maybe you know about it)09:09
morphisnot regarding the nexus7 but the galaxy nexus phone09:09
janimomorphis, yes, heard about it09:10
LetoThe2ndogra-nx7: yay for nx7 ;)09:10
morphisok, so you're on the way finding about the legal situation and if we're allowed to redistribute the binaries?09:10
janimomorphis, I have not read the EULA but I think from what I glanced from it it does not allow redistribution09:10
ogra-nx7LetoThe2nd, :)09:10
morphisyes, thats what I gather from it too09:10
morphisbut I am not a lawyer09:11
janimomorphis, yes, I just forwarded the request inside Canonical. No ideas when a decision is made.09:11
morphisok09:11
janimomorphis, in either case you can probably reuse whatever the official Ubuntu solution on the nexus will be09:11
morphisyes, will be a solution for wifi/bluetooth part09:12

morphisjanimo: thanks a lot for the infos09:22
janimomorphis, np09:22
marvin24janimo: I received the (lgpl licensed) source for libgstomx (gstreamer plugin for tegra*)09:24
marvin24do you think one could make a package out of it?09:25
janimoogra-nx7, ^ :)09:25
marvin24the source for libgstnvxvimagesink is till missing though09:25
janimomarvin24, I know ogra has been packaging some video codecs at least09:25
janimomarvin24, not yet released or no plan for releasing?09:25
marvin24janimo: it's on gitorious, wait ...09:26
marvin24https://gitorious.org/nvtegra-gst/gstomx09:26
marvin24but just the raw stuff from nv09:26
marvin24needs a lot of work to get something useful out of it09:27
marvin24(I even haven't tried yet)09:27
janimomarvin24, and this uses their binary OMX support libs?09:28
marvin24janimo: half of it09:28
marvin24there are two files needed09:28
marvin24libgstnvxvimagesink is missing09:29
marvin24it is linked against their binary only libs09:29
marvin24and based upon the official gstream omx plugin (http://freedesktop.org/wiki/GstOpenMAX)09:30
marvin24so a "patch" would be sufficient09:30
marvin24I don't know if ubuntu already ships this library09:31
marvin24it has support for omap already as it seems09:31
ogra-nx7marvin24, after uds i'll look into that09:35
ogra-nx7the tegra2 codecs package is stuck in NEW atm09:36
marvin24ogra-nx7: plugin is also for tegra3 I think09:44
ogra-nx7yep, should be very high level09:45
ogra-nx7but it will need a dep/recomends for he codecs09:45
ogra-nx7so codecs have to in go first09:46

bizulkwhile I had time I did wanted to test the bug correction for ubuntu precise on arm (Bug 1058022). So I inserted my old card : and now the boot process is stuck on "waiting for network configuration". I don't have a valid ethernet config I must set it after booting.15:33
ubot2Launchpad bug 1058022 in linux (Ubuntu Precise) "no tidspbridge support in kernel." [Undecided,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/105802215:33
bizulkcool this bot parse my msg to post any bug reference...15:33
GrueMasterbizulk: Which platform is this?15:34
bizulkGrueMaster: beagleboard xM15:34
GrueMasterYea, that has been problematic for a long time.  I filed several bugs to get the proper kernel module built-in instead of modular, but no one seems to care.15:35
bizulkGrueMaster: I remember I had this pb, but the boot wasn't stuck on this. But may retry my backup restore (I did dd backup when everything was fine)15:37
GrueMasterInteresting that bug 1058022 shows "Fix Committed", but bug 838200 only shows confirmed.  They're the same issue.15:39

ubot2Launchpad bug 838200 in linux (Ubuntu Precise) "No network support on Beagle XM" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/83820015:39
bizulkGrueMaster: 'xcuse me but tidspbridge has nothing to do with network support15:42
GrueMasteriirc, the bridge is needed for ethernet and audio to work.  Granted, it has been a while since I tested BEagleXM (3/2012), but that was the issue I had since Natty.15:45
bizulkGrueMaster: tidspbridge is about DSP/CPU communication15:47
GrueMasterOk, then I'm thinking on another bug of mine.  Bottom line is I had submitted a config fix for these issues, but they were ignored.15:49
bizulkGrueMaster: refresh their "memory"15:50

ben1066Ubuntu on Nexus 10 and Nexus 4? Make it happen :P17:57
=== XorA is now known as XorA|gone
=== alcides` is now known as alcides
keithzgSeems like the Nexus 4 might be an issue depending on the cellular radio. Hell, the Nexus 7 with 3G might pose an interesting challenge.21:10
keithzgI'm actually shocked the Nexus 7 apparently works as well as it does; most of the time with these commercial devices, the driver situation is too ugly21:17
keithzgThat's what's held up the Vivaldi, they can't even find a supplier who'll give them source code.21:17
GrueMasterFor the most part, Arm SOC's have been fairly open.  It is only the graphics that have been closed.  Granted, this is critical for any GUI interface development.21:22
nikisI used my Nexus 7 with 3G today.21:27
nikisWorked great.21:27
nikisThough I was cheating and using an external 3G dongle ;)21:28
nikisOTG cables are nice.21:28
mlankhorstwell21:43
keithzgGrueMaster I'd say the cellular stacks have also been closed. It's only two areas . . . but without graphics or cellular networking, well, that's why we mostly aren't installing real Linux on our phones yet.21:44
* mlankhorst points at his n921:45
mlankhorstreal linux!21:45
keithzga great example21:45
keithzgof how that's an issue :(21:45
keithzgluckily we can install stuff because Nokia employees working under their NDAs have written the drivers that'd be needed21:46
keithzgthat's why if I wanted I could install whatever I wanted on my N900 or N9! And that's awesome, but it's far from common.21:46
keithzgHopefully Jolla takes that a step further, since it's based on Mer. The only thing that makes me sad about that is it's RPM rather than DEB, and I think I speak for many people here when I say I far prefer the Debian way :)21:47
* keithzg still hasn't gotten tired of using apt-get on his phone21:48
mlankhorstit is rpm based? >:(21:48
keithzgYeah, Mer is RPM based, since MeeGo was.21:48
keithzgThe N9 is Harmattan, ie. Nokia's Debian-based Distro with as many of the same packages as MeeGo has.21:49
keithzgSo applications written for the N9 will (in theory) run fine on anything Mer based with the rest of the stack, but the underlying system is yum/rpm rather than apt/deb.21:49
mlankhorst:-(22:12
keithzgTo be fair, the days of RPM Hell are mostly gone. Red Hat seems to have ironed how the issues, embarassed by the mindshare dominance Debian was enjoying.22:27
GrueMaster I'd have to agree with this.  A large part of the rpm hell was the lack of a repository management system (like apt).  If you run dpkg -i on a downloaded package without having the required pre-requisites, it will complain just as much as rpm -i will.22:47
GrueMasterAlthough the apt solution is far more mature than the various rpm solutions (zypper, yum, etc).22:48
baggersHI all, I'm currently trying to compile ECL http://ecls.sourceforge.net/ for the nexus7. I can see that the older version 11.1.1 has been packaged and is in the repos. Is there any way to find out what configure options were used to get it to build? I'm a real newbie to all this side of things having been spoilt with scripting languages for too long!22:50
GrueMasterbaggers: Which distro release?22:54
GrueMasterOh, nm.  Found it.22:54
baggersAh it must be something in the latest version (12.7.1) that is causing the issue as the nexus is building 11.1.1 from source now without issues22:56
GrueMasterIf you go to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecl/11.1.1-4ubuntu1, you can download the build source and see the build logs.  This may help in getting a newer build to compile.  Not sure (been a while since I built a deb package from updated source).22:57
baggersCheers, I'll have a read. The error that was thrown on trying to 'make' was :/tmp/ccVddsAh.s:72: Error: thumb conditional instruction should be in IT block -- `strexeq r4,r1,[r2]'...which from a quick google seems to be a known issue for arm7 with some software but to be honest it was so far over my head that I barely heard the woosh it made as it sailed by!23:00
GrueMasterHeh.23:01
