jrgiffordzoopster:  interesting idea (re: last email)19:55
jrgifford(to the mailing list)19:55
zoopsterjrgifford: yea...that's how it is "supposed" to work, but that process is a bit more cumbersome I do believe.19:56
zoopsterjrgifford: and your question about arb help...I think you sent the correct link19:56
jrgiffordzoopster: does it have anything to do with the fact we want debian packages?19:57
jrgiffordlast i checked, the mac app store was a single file - the .app thing.19:57
jrgiffordzoopster:  ok, thats what I thought. I'll try and poke through the submissions tonight, leave some comments on the requests.19:57
zoopsterjrgifford: it has more to do with the need for "proper" debian packages19:57
zoopsterjrgifford: there are a lot of packages provided...but if you dig into the comments they are missing items to make them proper packages19:58
jrgiffordzoopster: oh, so proper by-the-book-100%-right-no-errors-allowed packages.19:58
zoopsterjrgifford: pretty much...proper copyright and such as well19:59
jrgiffordugh. i've done packaging for simple python scripts, and this is pretty difficult. :(19:59
jrgiffordparticuarly since nobody builds them the same way. mac apps? you can't really build a non-.app mac app. same for windows with .exe. :\20:00
zoopsterjrgifford: it's not real difficult...there is just a lot that you can/could do so it's not obvious in some cases...look at some simple packages in the archive and you'll see it's rather straightforward... debhelper helps a lot20:01
zoopsterjrgifford: and you are right...mac/ios apps are simpler as are apk for android20:02
zoopsterjrgifford: but apple has the same issue...they have a 2-4 wk minimum review time20:02
jrgiffordzoopster: isn't quickly supposed to remove 99% of this pain? i'm not entirely sure if these guys are using quickly or not...20:04
zoopsterjrgifford: yes, but some are not and some don't add the proper info to the files even when using quickly20:07
jrgiffordzoopster: ok.20:23
jrgiffordso perhaps a change in policy, in order to keep it from getting cluttered: If something is wrong, and if it isn't a minor thing (like a single tyop or whatever), then it just gets rejected, with a note saying "please fix A, B, C etc and resubmit" ?20:24
jrgiffordfrom what I understand, thats how the competition does it.20:25
jrgiffordgranted, they are also dealing with a lot more apps, but they are also able to make effective use of their human resources - which the arb seems to be a little low on.20:26
JanCjrgifford / zoopster : maybe people who want their app included into Ubuntu but who aren't experienced with Ubuntu/Debian packaging can "outsource" packaging to (more experienced) others?23:40
JanCmaybe there should be a list somewhere of third parties that can handle packaging (and maybe also proper cross-platform porting) and their "success list" (packages that they successfully prepared)23:46
