extropywhen I hold down the [alt] key it takes ~1 full second for unity to respond by giving me the "File" menu.06:18
extropyif I press the [left] arrow key *within* that 1 second (in firefox) the browser goes "Back" as expected06:18
extropybut then Ubuntu still gives me the "Type your command" business06:19
extropyI use a laptop with a really crappy trackpad so this happens to me constantly06:19
extropyis this where I should bring up UX issues with Ubuntu?06:19
extropyI was having a hard time consistently duplicating this issue until I discovered that there's a delay between pressing down the [alt] key and the UI responding by giving me the "File" menu06:21
extropybut there you have it ... the delay, for whatever reason, is crucial.06:22
extropyto be honest I don't even know what this "type your command" thing even is ... is this some kind of AppleTalkie, Powershelly thing or what?06:25
extropyit seems like the same kind of functionality I would expect from "~" key in an FPS06:26
extropyfound out how to disable it ... but it shows the default setting as "Alt-L" not "Alt-Left" ... any idea why it was doing this to begin with?06:29
extropyah ... it's a typo06:31
extropyjust check another computer default setting is "Alt L" (as opposed to "Alt+L")06:31
extropy12.04 LTS is affected ... haven't checked 12.1006:32
extropyI'm manually fixing the bug on all my machines. What can I do to push this change to your repos?06:33
extropywell, I tried ... cya06:35

BactaHi - regarding the dock being on the left Mark Shuttleworth said it was like that because he wanted it to line up with the "Ubuntu" button. Where exactly is  this button he's talking about?11:58
BactaAnd as a follow up to that is there a way I can move the launcher to the bottom? It's incredibly frustrating having it pop up when you're trying to close/minimize an application12:09
Klap-inBacta: the launcher of the dash has the ubuntu logo12:22
BactaOk12:22
BactaCan I change it? I'm finding this really difficult to use on a laptop :(12:23
Klap-insofar i know (as common user) is this not possible.. but i haven't investigated it12:24
BactaOk12:25
Klap-inbut simple query on askubuntu.com gives: http://askubuntu.com/questions/33605/can-i-move-the-unity-launcher12:26
BactaAre people aware of this being an issue? I appreciate it was a design decision but it's kind of flawed the way it's placed now from a usability stand point12:26
Klap-ini like i space gained..12:27
BactaI see - if they haven't solved it for 12.04 they probably haven't for 12.10 either12:27
Klap-inBacta: no idea whether are initiatives, i guess not, but better you do a search on launchpad for example12:29
BactaIs Launchpad the bug tracker?12:29
Klap-inyes12:29
BactaWouldn't they just close anything like that as "won't fix"?12:29
Klap-inmaybe, or a 'not just now'12:30
Klap-inBacta: the subject of this channel mentions also the mailinglists, maybe you can search it archive, i guess it discussed there too..12:34
BactaMay do when I get some time12:36
BactaWas really just wondering if there was a quick known solution to this problem I could apply now12:36
BactaBut it doesn't appear there is12:36
