kidxHello guys18:26
kidxi have a question18:27
kidxCan i make a custom distro using Lubuntu as base18:27
Unit193It's been done before a few times, so I'd guess the answer is the same.  You just have to offer support and not direct people to the support options of Lubuntu.18:29
holsteinkidx: if i may PM you...18:31
Unit193kidx: So, may I ask the goal of the project?18:32
kidxto make the os more gaming friendly and have more gaming options in it18:39
holsteinUnit193: what does it mean when someone says foo? in a command?18:40
kidxfoo is the term fool18:40
Unit193holstein: It's an example, sudo apt-get install foo18:40
kidxwhen you just say it in a random sentecne it could be taken wrong18:40
holsteinkidx: that is how i meant it ^^ as a variable18:41
holsteinkidx: i in *no* way meant to imply "fool"18:41
kidxyea but hwat you said after that was the impression i took from you18:41
kidxany how i am done with it18:41
Unit193!foo18:41
ubottu[baz|bar|wibble]18:41
holsteinkidx: feel free and stay18:42
holsteinkidx: i do not need to interact with you here.. and i can even share with you how to block me18:42
holsteinkidx: stay and get the answers from the volunteers.. i just wanted to clarify that i was not implying you were a fool18:43

dean_Hi all I was wondering if there is alot of difference between lubuntu and xubuntu?21:12
holstein!lxde21:12
holsteindean_: the main difference is lxde or xfce21:12
Unit193One uses LXDE and one uses Xfce, default apps and settings.21:12
dean_holstein: I meant in terms of speed and performance is lxde faster than xfce?21:13
zleapnot sure21:13
holsteindean_: you can always try them both out live.. i think lxde is generally considered lighter21:13
dean_I am currently using Mint Mate and find it a bit sluggish21:13
holsteindean_: you can sudo apt-get install lxde and see21:14
zleapholstein, what about lxde-desktop that should pull it in right,21:14
Unit193Xubuntu isn't made to be lightweight exactly, while Lubuntu is made for older computers.21:14
zleapoh for ubunt its lubuntu-desktop or xubuntu-desktop i think21:15
Unit193zleap: Won't bring config or look, but.21:15
zleapok21:15
dean_See the thing is I dont consider my pc to be that old but it struggles with some distros21:15
Unit193xubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-desktop does, as above.21:15
zleapyou may want to see what services are running and if you can stop some21:15
zleapservices / programs21:15
holsteinzleap: i have only installed lxde in mint.. so i cant say21:16
zleapok21:16
holsteini would not pull in xubuntu-destop or lubuntu-desktop in mint. i would just install xfce and/or lxde21:16
dean_holstein: Only problem with mint they only offer an lxde debian version not ubuntu based21:17
holsteindean_: you can just install lxde.. right now.. in your mint os21:17
holsteindean_: not the debian based operatings system with lxde by defaul from mint21:18
dean_holstein: wouldn't that install loads of dependencies for lxde which would make my mint install slower?21:18
holsteindean_: i also suggested checking out lubuntu or xubuntu live21:19
holsteindean_: typically, that just takes up hard disk space.. does that slow the system down? not that i notice, though it wont speed it up21:19
dean_holstein: I do like the look of lubuntu but can I install gnome based programs?21:19
holsteindean_: nothing in lubuntu is preventing any applications from being made to install in it21:20
holsteindean_: would i expect decent performance from gtk apps? sure21:20
dean_holstein: Now for the next question how about kde based programs?21:20
holsteindean_: if you want to pull in all the kde stuff...21:21
holsteinagain, nothing is keeping those apps from being gtk.. or working in lubuntu21:21
dean_holstein: Would that slow my system down?21:21
holsteindean_: i typically try not to install too much from kde.. but it you want the apps you want them21:21
zleapi have a emachines + 2gb ram,  and it runs stellarium nicely21:22
dean_holstein: I only tend to install k3b21:22
holsteindean_: will it slow your system down? i wouldnt expect it to speed it up, but if you want something that is kde only, then thats the way to go21:22
holsteindean_: thats what i usually use21:22
holsteink3b... though its not the only option21:22
dean_holstein: I find brasero terrible21:22
holsteinxfburn works.. so does brasero21:23
holsteinanyways.. we dont need to talk about what burns how.. if you want k3b, go for it21:23
dean_holstein: Ok thanks for the advice21:23
holsteinit will pull in what it pulls in... and if you want it, it'll be what it is21:23
dean_holstein: Is there an lxde based burning program?21:24
holsteindean_: i forget,. i think its just xfburn.. but its all the same repos21:24
dean_holstein: Ok thanks : )21:24
trainspottedhello hello22:53
trainspottedanyone got problems with the alternate installer of lubuntu?22:54
trainspottedlubuntu-12.10-alternate-i386.iso -> md5 5dde10476ccb7fc2c6fb50d91406190222:55
trainspottedIntegrity test failed The ./pool/universe/l/lxpanel/lxpanel-indicator-applet-plugin_0.5.10+git20120823-0ubuntu1_i386.deb file failed the MD5 checksum verification. Your CD-ROM or this file may have been corrupted.22:56
trainspottedI'm trying to install Lubuntu 12.10 on my LG X110 Netbook... I like to use the alternate installer, so i've downloaded it. Then I had made bootable by USB (With your recommended UNetBootIn) but it gives me an error when i'm on "Install Software Step". I've checked for integrity errors, and the installer gives me integrity errors indeed... But the MD5 is exactly the same that is given in Ubuntu Hash Tags... Anyone had problems wi22:58
