[12:54] How do I logoff from Lubuntu via terminal? === hal14450_ is now known as hal14450 [18:26] Hello guys [18:27] i have a question [18:27] Can i make a custom distro using Lubuntu as base [18:29] It's been done before a few times, so I'd guess the answer is the same. You just have to offer support and not direct people to the support options of Lubuntu. [18:31] kidx: if i may PM you... [18:32] kidx: So, may I ask the goal of the project? [18:39] to make the os more gaming friendly and have more gaming options in it [18:40] Unit193: what does it mean when someone says foo? in a command? [18:40] foo is the term fool [18:40] holstein: It's an example, sudo apt-get install foo [18:40] when you just say it in a random sentecne it could be taken wrong [18:41] kidx: that is how i meant it ^^ as a variable [18:41] kidx: i in *no* way meant to imply "fool" [18:41] yea but hwat you said after that was the impression i took from you [18:41] any how i am done with it [18:41] !foo [18:41] [baz|bar|wibble] [18:42] kidx: feel free and stay [18:42] kidx: i do not need to interact with you here.. and i can even share with you how to block me [18:43] kidx: stay and get the answers from the volunteers.. i just wanted to clarify that i was not implying you were a fool [18:45] * bioterror offers a bowl full of spoo to Unit193 [21:12] Hi all I was wondering if there is alot of difference between lubuntu and xubuntu? [21:12] !lxde [21:12] dean_: the main difference is lxde or xfce [21:12] One uses LXDE and one uses Xfce, default apps and settings. [21:13] holstein: I meant in terms of speed and performance is lxde faster than xfce? [21:13] not sure [21:13] dean_: you can always try them both out live.. i think lxde is generally considered lighter [21:13] I am currently using Mint Mate and find it a bit sluggish [21:14] dean_: you can sudo apt-get install lxde and see [21:14] holstein, what about lxde-desktop that should pull it in right, [21:14] Xubuntu isn't made to be lightweight exactly, while Lubuntu is made for older computers. [21:15] oh for ubunt its lubuntu-desktop or xubuntu-desktop i think [21:15] zleap: Won't bring config or look, but. [21:15] ok [21:15] See the thing is I dont consider my pc to be that old but it struggles with some distros [21:15] xubuntu-desktop and lubuntu-desktop does, as above. [21:15] you may want to see what services are running and if you can stop some [21:15] services / programs [21:16] zleap: i have only installed lxde in mint.. so i cant say [21:16] ok [21:16] i would not pull in xubuntu-destop or lubuntu-desktop in mint. i would just install xfce and/or lxde [21:17] holstein: Only problem with mint they only offer an lxde debian version not ubuntu based [21:17] dean_: you can just install lxde.. right now.. in your mint os [21:18] dean_: not the debian based operatings system with lxde by defaul from mint [21:18] holstein: wouldn't that install loads of dependencies for lxde which would make my mint install slower? [21:19] dean_: i also suggested checking out lubuntu or xubuntu live [21:19] dean_: typically, that just takes up hard disk space.. does that slow the system down? not that i notice, though it wont speed it up [21:19] holstein: I do like the look of lubuntu but can I install gnome based programs? [21:20] dean_: nothing in lubuntu is preventing any applications from being made to install in it [21:20] dean_: would i expect decent performance from gtk apps? sure [21:20] holstein: Now for the next question how about kde based programs? [21:21] dean_: if you want to pull in all the kde stuff... [21:21] again, nothing is keeping those apps from being gtk.. or working in lubuntu [21:21] holstein: Would that slow my system down? [21:21] dean_: i typically try not to install too much from kde.. but it you want the apps you want them [21:22] i have a emachines + 2gb ram, and it runs stellarium nicely [21:22] holstein: I only tend to install k3b [21:22] dean_: will it slow your system down? i wouldnt expect it to speed it up, but if you want something that is kde only, then thats the way to go [21:22] dean_: thats what i usually use [21:22] k3b... though its not the only option [21:22] holstein: I find brasero terrible [21:23] xfburn works.. so does brasero [21:23] anyways.. we dont need to talk about what burns how.. if you want k3b, go for it [21:23] holstein: Ok thanks for the advice [21:23] it will pull in what it pulls in... and if you want it, it'll be what it is [21:24] holstein: Is there an lxde based burning program? [21:24] dean_: i forget,. i think its just xfburn.. but its all the same repos [21:24] holstein: Ok thanks : ) [22:53] hello hello [22:54] anyone got problems with the alternate installer of lubuntu? Then I had made bootable by USB (With your recommended UNetBootIn) but it gives me an error when i'm on "Install Software Step". I've checked for integrity errors, and the installer gives me integrity errors indeed... But the MD5 is exactly the same that is given in Ubuntu Hash Tags...
