ArchOpenBoxHello a Monitor on Ubuntu banned me why? I was just trying to help individual with Nvidia graphics card?10:57
Myrttiwhen was this, can you specify?10:58
ArchOpenBoxNvidia drivers that are being supplied by Nvidia aren't working in Ubuntu and Nvidia has already stated there drivers aren't helping. Further more most people are told to revert back to 302.17 from the 304.37 driver10:59
ArchOpenBoxMyrtti: It was around 2 days ago trying to help when ikonia said to reinstall ubuntu. I just wanted to check if you could revert with reinstall.11:00
Myrttialright, looking at the bantracker11:00
Myrtti(found you already)11:00
ArchOpenBoxMyrtti: The ubuntu website or forums dont state weather you can reload rc.d and boot reinstalled driver .11:01
bioterroryeah, the arch users has 304.40 drivers and everything works without problems ;)11:01
ArchOpenBoxbioterror: Understandable different do to rc.d and xorg.conf file.11:02
ArchOpenBoxbioterror: usually read Nvidia and Arch Linux installs to see package detials see if there is work around without reinstall11:02
ArchOpenBoxbioterror: with Nvidia seperating package detials causing direct issue with ubuntu system. Which is in long run requiring reinstall.11:04
bioterrormy friend has some problems with his gt 610 atm. on ubuntu, I have none with my NVS 300. but background I go. myrtti is investigating ;)11:06
ArchOpenBoxWhy not mentioned other in Nvidia forums is puzzling. Because so many Ubuntu users are loading the driver and seeing bluescreen or flickering if they get past installing driver and there is no Warning.11:06
bioterroror video tearing :(11:07
Myrttiok, here's what I think11:07
ArchOpenBoxMyrtti: Who do I need to talk to? to lift ban?11:07
MyrttiI'm going to remove the ban, and try to keep the support as support rather than comparing different distros with each other.11:08
Myrttis/try to keep/remind you to try to keep/11:08
MyrttiI'm not entirely sure what happened when you were banned11:09
Myrttibut I suspect there might have been some misunderstanding/miscommunication involved11:09
Myrttidoes that sound ok?11:10
ArchOpenBoxMyrtti: Thats ok! I will just inform person helping next time of the messages on the Nvidia forum.. Thank you :)11:11
Myrttiok, here's some hints how to do it when you do: summarise first what the forums say, then give a link.11:12
ArchOpenBoxikonia: I'm srry if I made you mad. I was just trying to figure out what is causing the issue of rc.d config not rebooting and allowing driver to work11:12
Myrttiand please do it in the channel, to profit others with same problems who might be lurking11:12
Myrttiban has been lifted11:13
Myrttihave fun and thanks for flying Ubuntu and freenode11:13
ArchOpenBoxyes, understand just was searching. Next time I'll just make the search first and post it there.11:13
ArchOpenBoxThank you again! :)11:14
MyrttiArchOpenBox: was there anything else you needed help with?11:17
ikoniahello ArchOpenBox11:49
ikoniaapologies for missing you11:49
ArchOpenBoxikonia: srry just got back from breakfast12:36
ArchOpenBoxikonia: Good Morning12:36
ikoniaI assume Myrtti has sorted you out now ?12:52
Tm_Tindeed12:57
ArchOpenBoxhopefully! I understand just get mad when here so many users going back to Windows because we have poor video support and Nvidia seems to be releasing terrible drivers.13:00
ikoniaArchOpenBox: no-one is going back to nvidia13:00
ikoniaand the reason you got banned was because you where giving users wrong/bad information13:01
ikoniayou where miss-leading people that a.) the nvidia bug he hit wouldn't have happened in arch b.) it would be easier to remove the nvidia drivers from nvida.com in arch - neither are true13:01
ArchOpenBoxikonia: hey, I was going to with my next statement tell you I couldn't promise use anything13:01
ikoniait paints a false picture of the landscape, which is unacceptable13:01
ikoniaArchOpenBox: no you where not,13:01
ikoniaand to be honest, you just made up that the problems would not happen with arch13:02
ikoniawhich is unacceptable13:02
ikoniaif you know there is a fix in place within a different distro, suggesting it is fine (and a great help) but just making things up, is unacceptable13:02
ikoniadoes that make sense to you ?13:04
ArchOpenBoxikonia: No, That ways not what I was trying to state. I think you misunderstand I look up packages on Arch Linux to see were the problem is. Nvidia with 304.37 driver doesn't work, but there was a solution on there forums that stated that ubuntu users were using 302.17, but the rc.d was not reload so driver was not loading thats all13:04
ikoniaArchOpenBox: I'm sorry that's just lies13:05
ikoniaa.) you stated "you would not have these problems on arch"13:05
ArchOpenBoxikonia: I get u the link hold13:05
ArchOpenBoxon13:05
ArchOpenBoxgive me one second13:05
ikoniab.) you failed to read that the user wasn't using the ubuntu packaged drivers, he was using the direct download from nvidia.com13:05
ikoniato quote from the channel log13:07
ikonia2012-11-03T20:40:54 <ArchOpenBox> Kishi: by the way I dont like playing with drives they have a funny way of not fully removing from ubuntu. If this were Arch Linux it would be a thousand times easier. Cant promise anything.13:07
ArchOpenBoxikonia: read that part! what I dont understand which is my confusion is it not possible to reinstall earlier version of driver after it crashes.13:07
ikoniathey don't have a "funny way" of not removing from ubuntu, the nvidia.com installer works the same on ubuntu as it does on arch13:07
ArchOpenBoxhttps://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/23213:07
ikoniaand it would not be "easier" on arch as they are same "drivers"13:07
ikoniaArchOpenBox: I'm aware of the problem/fixes, you're not listening to what I'm saying13:08
ikoniaArchOpenBox: I'm telling you the reason you got banned was because you where giving the user miss-information13:08
ArchOpenBoxikonia: ok go ahead im listening13:08
ikoniaplease re-read what I've just said13:08
ArchOpenBoxok13:08
ArchOpenBoxOK, I see I put that down. Did not mean to imply using Arch Linux would be easier just that the config files were different. ops my bad. srry.13:12
ikoniaArchOpenBox: the config files are not different13:12
ikoniaand the problem you are trying to fix is to do with bumblebee - the user wasn't using bumblebee13:12
ikoniaso again, do you see how you where just missleading him with information that was incorrect and not useful to him13:12
ArchOpenBoxikonia: yes, I should not of jumped in srry.13:13
ikoniait's fine to jump in if you have something you KNOW is worth while13:13
ikoniabut you just made something random up about archlinux and gave him information about a totally different problem, nothing to do with his issue13:14
ikoniawhich is dangerous as it can do more harm than good13:14
ikoniamake sense now ?13:14
ArchOpenBoxunderstood! Should have left it alone.13:14
ikoniathat's fine, I appreciate your intention, but the execution wasn't really useful13:15
ArchOpenBoxikonia: I agree there!13:15
ArchOpenBoxWell got to shower and eat long day ahead of me! :) Take care13:16
ikoniathanks, please remember to /part this channel13:16
