GH0I upgraded to 12.10 Saturday, and have noticed that some of my sites are no longer working. A lot of these sites used proxy pass in the apache config. However, when I go to enable mox_proxy, it tells me there is no such module.00:01
GH0What do I need to go about getting it reinstalled?00:01
thisshi does anyone know how to use xboot or yumi?00:11

xixorjedihawk: no idea, I haven't used gnome in years and years.  I remember using gnome 2 when it first came out, and it was a huge deal.  I even tried to learn how to program in gtk, and absolutely hated it03:57

nine_both are very stable now03:57
nine_kde is more customizable so it is also easier to break03:58
xixorunity is based on gnome3, right?  or something like that?03:58
nine_I have not had a crash issue with any03:58
nine_kde just needs more tweeks for every user03:58
tsimpsonKDE doesn't _need_ tweaks, it just has that option03:59
tsimpsonmost users find the default setup perfectly workable03:59
nine_unity is baised in  ubuntu, both unity and gnome 3 are shells that run on the 12.1003:59
nine_agreed to a point tsimpson04:00

nine_go to a folder  maybe a share folder/click share/it will prompt u to the compatable samba04:06

DJ_UnibobI'll have to boot the laptop up here shortly.04:08
nine_then in menu type share, and add the profile and pass word needed to access the specific network04:08
DJ_UnibobSounds like a pain, almost like setting up a corporate network, but I'll give it a shot.  Does this only have to be done once or on each start?04:11

nine_only issue i have had with the dolphin side is any saving inside the share folders from other computer/servers will be met with a prompt to upload when one exits the item saving in04:20
nine_example if I save in a spread sheet, it will do the save motions, but will not actually save my work till I exit that spread sheet, then I will be prompted with an upload or cancel optionm04:22

simplewyofel: how can i delete a package from a ppa?14:20

derronObsidian1723: Question....14:22
TheLordOfTimesimplew, if within the PPA... https://launchpad.net/~USER/+archive/PPANAME/+delete-packages      But it'll not accept the same version upload again, unless the PPA system's changed and I havent seen it.14:23
TheLordOfTime(replace the CAPTIALIZED terms accordingly)14:23
yofelTheLordOfTime: it will accept the same version again after the janitor cleaned the sources.14:24
yofel(if it weren't still broken)14:24
TheLordOfTimeyofel, really?  when's that happen?14:24
TheLordOfTimeyofel, its *NEVER* done that for *ANY* PPA ever i've run14:24
TheLordOfTimeemphasis on ***NEVER***14:24
yofelok, I think I mixed something up14:24
TheLordOfTimeyofel, if i upload package-1.0-0 and it fails and i delete it and i update it it won't accept 1.0-0 again.14:25
TheLordOfTimei've seen this in the nginx team PPA as well14:25
yofelit'll accept the same tarball again, but perhaps not with the same version14:25
TheLordOfTimejust to fix a FTBFS issue we have to bump the ~ppa# part14:25
simplewyofel: im not understanding14:25
TheLordOfTimesimplew, we need details i think of what you're trying to accomplish14:25
yofelTheLordOfTime: yeah, I think got that mixed up14:26
TheLordOfTimeyofel, yes, the same tarball again (it requires that iirc)14:26
yofelit will accept the same upstream version with different tarball contents, but probably requires a different debian revision14:26
TheLordOfTimesimplew, what's your goal here?14:26
TheLordOfTimesimplew, what's the goal with deleting from the PPA?14:27
simplewi want to remove a package from a ppa14:27
TheLordOfTimepermanently?14:27
simplewyes14:27
TheLordOfTimeor so you can reupload it?14:27

TheLordOfTimeif you have no intention of ever reuploading that source package, then use the link structure i gave you14:27
TheLordOfTimehttps://launchpad.net/~USER/+archive/PPANAME/+delete-packages14:27
TheLordOfTimereplace USER with whatever username or team username owns the PPA14:27
TheLordOfTimeand PPANAME with the PPA url part14:28
yofelyou can just go to the ppa page, click on 'view package details' on the right, then there click on 'delete packages' on the right14:28
TheLordOfTimefor example: if i were deleting from the NGINX PPA, it'd be https://launchpad.net/~nginx/+archive/stable/+delete-packages14:28
TheLordOfTimethat too :)14:28

yofelthe plasma UI is a bit jumpy though when opening the details pane :/14:34
simplewyofel: thats the one packaged in ubuntu or its another version packaged?14:34
yofel0.9 is the one that's packaged14:35
simplewi never managed to see any button to allow disconecting wifi network14:35
yofelhm, and I already found a but in master. My IP isn't 0.0.0.014:35
yofel*bug14:35
simplewyofel: hu? where can you see the ip?14:36
yofelsimplew: see the red x? http://yofel.dyndns.org/pics/ext/pnm.png14:36
yofelsimplew: if you're connected to a network, click on it and it'll open the connection details14:37
simplewyofel: yeap, got it14:37
simplewbut mine is 0.0.0.014:38
yofelas I said, bug14:38
simplewyeap14:39
mparilloQuestion about Okular...it seems that it (unlike Acrobat Rader) allows you to save your entries to any fill-in PDF form, but the entries are only visible to Okular, that is, you cannot save them so they are visible to other PDF viewers, like evince. Ist that correct?14:39
simplewyofel: agora acerca about packaging, in rpm spec if want to not pack some files we add a line like "%exclude /usr/bin/foo" where the files are listed, or instead in %isntall part we add a line "rm -fr /usr/bin/foo", and in debian hows that achieved?14:41
mime_1111hey ppl. in my dolphin context menu, ill see two identical entries, for example ''kate'', but one is not working, aby way on how to rid the crappy ones? thnx ppl14:42
mime_1111any14:42
simplewyofel: im asking this because i saw that in knm the devel files were not packaged, but i still didnt get how was it done14:43
yofelsimplew: you simple don't add them to the install file14:43
yofel*simply14:44
simplewyofel: uau, in rpm we always need to specify what to do, else it will output that X fiels were not packaged14:44
yofelif you want everything *except* one or two files, you'll either need to explicitely put everything else in the install file, or override_dh_install and use rm14:45
yofellatter would be the dirty method14:45
mime_1111ok ppl maybe manually at : ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/replaceicon.desktop /1/, /2/:14:46
BluesKajare there any streaming alternatives to VLC for a local network ..been searching for a server/player , but nothing else seems to be available ..VLC is just not working for me streamwise.14:46
mime_1111well ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus14:46
mime_1111it is another one, but the difference is that u see the download in cache in % an speed14:46
simplewyofel: so i need to review knm14:48
simplewyofel: why is there a plasma-widget-networkmanagement.lintian-overrides  and what for?14:49
simplewyofel: and why plasma-widget-networkmanagement.postinst is triggering  /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot-required ?14:50
yofelthere is a program called 'lintian' which is run by debuild and looks for obvious packaging mistakes, a .lintian-overrides tells lintian that something is being done intentionally and that it shouldn't print a warning14:51
yofelsimplew: dunno, check the changelog and see why it was added14:51
simplewyofel: is possible to see all the files that are generated in make isntall?14:52
yofeluh, make install should print what it installs by itself14:52
n0ti0nishi all14:52
simplewyofel: yes, but i would like to check that after the package is done, is possible?14:54
BluesKajis becoming a dev chat :)14:54
yofelyou can see the package contents with dpkg -L <pkg>, or dpkg-deb -c <debfile>, otherwise only the build log will tell14:54
yofelBluesKaj has a point there...14:54
simplewyofel: lets imagine theres a new version that will produce more files, i would need a way to check that14:54
mime_1111sorry is more in/usr/share/kde4/services/14:55
simplewor if im packaging anew source, i would need to know the produced files to be able to list them14:56
yofelthere is list-missing for that, why is for me being triggered by a pbuilder hook.14:57
yofelput https://code.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-packagers/pbuilder/pbuilder-hooks to ~/.pbuilder-hooks and add14:57
yofelHOOKDIR="$HOME/.pbuilder-hooks"14:57
yofelto your ~/.pbuilderrc14:57

BluesKajHey guys , I was chastised for asking a non devel question at #kubuntu-devel , I think the rules of this chat should be respected as well14:58
yofeltrue, let's move somewhere else14:58
simplewyofel: whats the packaging channel name?14:58
yofel#ubuntu-packaging14:58

BluesKajegadw, seems to be ok here , any particular app or is affecting all apps ?15:15
yofelI can reproduce it with ksnapshot at least15:16

BluesKajegadw, have you updated and upgraded lately ? I have to ask .15:18
egadwBluesKaj: KDE hasn't been updated since I added the kubuntu ppa15:22
BluesKajegadw, ok run an update and upgrade , there have been some changes15:23

FlashDeluxehi! i am running dist upgrade on command line on a pc, how can i connect to this tty via ssh?15:48
bazhangFlashDeluxe, dist-upgrade? that does NOT change versions, you realize15:49
BluesKajssh is for a different computer on your network , not for a tty , ctrl+alt +F1 for the tty15:50
BluesKajFlashDeluxe,^15:50
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj it is a different computer, sorry i expressed it wrong15:51
BluesKajFlashDeluxe, are you trying to upgrade KDE or your OS ?15:53
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj: i am upgrading from kubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 with apt-get dist-upgrade on computer A and all i want to do is see the console on my computer B.15:54
bazhang!dist-upgrade | FlashDeluxe15:55
ubottuFlashDeluxe: A dist-upgrade will install new dependencies for packages already installed and may remove packages if they are no longer needed. This will not bring you to a new release of Ubuntu, see !upgrade if that is your intention.15:55
FlashDeluxebazhang: that is NOT the case, i didn`t ask for that...15:56
bazhangFlashDeluxe, dist-upgrade does NOT change versions...15:57
FlashDeluxebazhang: i asked how i can connect to that tty15:57
bazhangFlashDeluxe, via ssh?15:57
FlashDeluxebazhang: yep15:58
bazhangFlashDeluxe, did you see BluesKaj 's comment above?15:58
FlashDeluxebazhang: yep, so if its not possible directly via ssh, there s gotta be a possiblity like screen or something like that?15:59
BluesKajFlashDeluxe,you can't upgrade fron 12.04 to 12.10 with dist upgrade , it won't work , do-release-upgrade will.15:59
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj: but it worked on my notebook=16:00
FlashDeluxe*?16:00
BluesKajcheck your notebook version16:00

FloodBotK1FlashDeluxe: Please don't flood; use http://paste.ubuntu.com to paste; don't use Enter as punctuation.16:01
FlashDeluxethe version looks good16:01
BluesKajthen you didn't use dist-upgrade , FlashDeluxe , I'll guarantee that16:02
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj wanna bet? :D maybe theres a link on do-release-upgrade or something?16:02
FlashDeluxebut it definitely used dist-upgrade16:03
PiciIf you use dist-upgrade in conjunction with modifying /etc/apt/sources.list, that might work, but its not the proper way to upgrade.16:03
FlashDeluxePici its the way i used to do it since years :)16:04
BluesKajFlashDeluxe,there's no link16:04
PiciFlashDeluxe: While that might have worked, do-release-upgrade does some additional tasks that cannot be properly done soley with things within dpkg/apt16:04
PiciIf you're not having any issues, great, but it can cause problems.16:04
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj nevertheless: i wanted to know something completly different :D I just want to connect to the tty6 of computer A in my network :)16:05
FlashDeluxePici ok the next time i will use do-release-upgrade16:05
=== Tonio_aw is now known as Tonio_
BluesKajFlashDeluxe, make sure you have open ssh server installed on your computer A , openssh client on the pc you are using., find the IP address of computer A , then ssh user@IPcomputerA16:08
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj ok and how can i connect to the tty number 6?16:10
BluesKajgood question ...don't know . Pici ?16:11
PiciShort answer: you can't.16:11
PiciYou should use screen or similar if you want to reattach to a previously opened terminal session.16:12
FlashDeluxePici i do that usually, but this time i forgot :(16:13
BluesKajFlashDeluxe, how did you manage to run the commands on computer A to install/upgrade the OS in the first place ?16:15
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj i stood up an walked to computer A16:16
BluesKajthen do that again :)16:17
FlashDeluxeBluesKaj But i am too lazy :D16:18

vbgunzI just came back to Kubuntu after a long hiatus and the number 1 thing that bugs me is how LibreOffice writer is the default app for everything text file. Is there one sweeping way to get that switched back to Kate?23:46
=== Tonio_ is now known as Tonio_aw
xixorvbgunz: you can right click on a text file in dolphin and change the associations23:49
xixorvbgunz: that is strange though.  Kate was the default viewer for text files for my system... I think anyway. Is kate installed?23:49
vbgunzxixor: yeah kates installed. I know I can take that route or go the surgeon route of messing with mime types in system settings but damn, it always takes longer than it should23:50
xixorvbgunz: it's pretty painless... right click on a text file, go to properties, click the wrench besides the "Type" line, and you change the order of the applications, and the Filename patterns23:52
OerHekssystem settings, file associations > text > plain text > move Kate 1 up23:52
vbgunzxixor: I know, it just isn't one file though, that pattern I am doomed to repeat dozens of times. OerHeks, yeah that's the best route but also the most overwhelming. KDE has got to get with 2010 and fix mass mime types in some way23:53
xixoryou change many file type patterns in that one dialog, at one time23:54
vbgunzit's just weird to me a decision has been made to make libreoffice writer the default text app. it really bugs me23:54
OerHekswell there are a lot of text types23:54
xixorI agree that it's strange that libreoffice is the default23:54
OerHekssystem settings, default application - does not solve your question :(23:56
yofelvbgunz: it's not a decision, it's a bug23:57
yofelkate *should* be the default for text files23:58
OerHeksfor plain text files, yes23:58
vbgunzOerHeks: yeah, I wouldn't mind messing with mimetypes at all in KDE except since I last spoke 7 minutes ago, I am on the 30th out of perhaps 100 text mime types. some I am sure probably are best left to writer but I am trying to make it right, I suppose23:58
