Shiggs|MBello all14:09
Shiggs|MB+h14:10
Shiggs|MBlol14:10
Shiggs|MBHas anyone here successfully ran any kind of MythTV setup in a virtual machine? The backend most importantly.14:10
Shiggs|MBI have a working MythTV setup on an SSD in my i5-2500k desktop, and I can get it to mount an use the OS (Funtoo Linux) just fine, but when I try and get MythTV Backend stuff working, it doesn't seem to want to. i.e. I can't connect to it from the host side of the virtualization setup14:12
Shiggs|MBI use VirtualBox 4.2.414:12
Shiggs|MBfeel free to msg me if you have any insights :)14:18
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, can you get to it from the guest OS?15:20
Shiggs|MBI think so yeah15:24
Shiggs|MBwait15:24
Shiggs|MBI've tested this theory with the latest Mythbuntu, and within itself I can connect to the backend fine, but when I try from the host side it's all yeah no15:25
Shiggs|MBand I think I might have effed up my database... Great. >_>15:27
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, I'm unsure exactly how you are trying to get to mythtv-setup from the host OS15:31
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, I've gotta leave for work, back in about 30 minutes15:31
Shiggs|MBI gotta sleep15:32
Shiggs|MBbut I'll PM you how I want it setup15:32
gracentShiggs|MB: you need to set bridged net15:32
Shiggs|MBI did15:33
gracentcan you mount a net share in the guest?15:34
Shiggs|MByep. I made a link to a physical hdd via vboxmanage15:35
gracentcan you ping host -> guest15:36
Shiggs|MBnow that I think about it I think it's a database issue15:36
Shiggs|MBbind-address issue15:36
gracentcould be15:36
gracentyou do have to allow it iirc15:36
Shiggs|MBgood news though: my db is fine15:38
Shiggs|MB<315:38
gracenterrm grats ;)15:38
Shiggs|MBxD15:38
Shiggs|MBI was messing around with msql stuff and I was so worried lol15:38
gracentahh, stick phpmyadmin on the machine and do a quick export before messing ;)15:39
Shiggs|MBthough I'm one step closer15:40
Shiggs|MBtgm4883 and gracent here's how I want to run my backend: I want to virtualize it via VBox (it accessing my Linux SSD and recordings drive) on a Mac OS X host. I also want the ability to connect to the local backend from host to guest, to playback recordings that could be recorded to the recordings drive... I wanna do it like this because I have it setup how I like it, but I prefer to run OS Xas my main OS15:43
Shiggs|MBcan you guys follow that description/desired use? lol15:44
Shiggs|MBI've almost got it15:44
Shiggs|MB<_<15:44
gracentwell you need to add a user entry to mysql->users that's a copy of the one already there but with '%' for the host15:44
gracentthen reload privs15:44
Shiggs|MByeah I think I did that15:44
Shiggs|MByou mean flush em?>15:44
gracentu must yeah15:44
Shiggs|MBhmm15:45
gracentif you still can't connect watch for firewalls15:45
Shiggs|MBI don't use any15:45
Shiggs|MBthough maybe there's one set in VBox?15:46
gracentno but make sure you can ping guest->host15:46
Shiggs|MBk15:46
Shiggs|MBI'll try that now15:46
gracentif not let me know guest + host ip's15:47
Shiggs|MBwell they are different...15:47
Shiggs|MBhost is 192.168.25.129, and guest is static'd to 192.168.25.180 via my router15:47
Shiggs|MBbooting VM now15:48
gracentshould be ok then15:48
gracenthow do you plan to record tv ooi?15:49
Shiggs|MBooi?15:49
gracentout of interest15:49
Shiggs|MBah15:49
Shiggs|MBHDHR via 'over the air' free broadcast cable :)15:49
gracentlan job - k15:50
Shiggs|MBand crap... I've had this problem before... mysql is loading before dhcpcd and it's hanging >_>15:50
Shiggs|MBIt's not Ubuntu though... it's Gentoo-based15:50
Shiggs|MBFuntoo15:50
gracentyou should be ok, IO in vbox might get choked if the host is busy writing to disk15:50
gracentahh dunno that I'd check the Gentoo wiki15:51
Shiggs|MBwell it'll all be writing to a physical SATAII disk15:51
Shiggs|MBas it has been when booted up physically15:51
gracentk15:52
tgm4883stop16:06
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, what you described isn't running mythtv-setup from the host16:06
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, what you described, is the second most common thing to do with mythtv16:07
Shiggs|MBah16:07
Shiggs|MBso I'm not the only one16:07
Shiggs|MBxD16:07
tgm4883Correct, you aren't the only one who wants to use mythtv for what it was designed to16:07
Shiggs|MBhaha16:08
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, so just let me clarify, the guest OS is on the same network as the rest of your computers?16:08
Shiggs|MBwell all I really want is for the backend to be in a VM so I won't have to reboot16:08
Shiggs|MByep16:08
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, are you running Mythbuntu in that Guest OS?16:08
Shiggs|MBwell I was testing it yes16:09
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, Open up mythbuntu-control-centre, enable the MythTV service, reboot and your done16:09
tgm4883providing gracent didn't screw up your system16:09
Shiggs|MBlol16:09
Shiggs|MBwell I have a working MythTV setup on Gentoo/Funtoo Linux on a physical SSD16:10
Shiggs|MBthat's giving me sql issues at16:10
Shiggs|MBm16:10
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, then edit the upstart jobs to depend on what you need them to depend on16:10
tgm4883eg. networking/mysql/etc16:10
Shiggs|MBand I can indeed ping the host from the VM16:21
Shiggs|MBomg so close! I can connect from within the VM to the local-to-it backend!16:39
Shiggs|MBgracent: !16:43
Shiggs|MBI'm getting close16:43
gracentShiggs|MB: Where you stuck?16:44
Shiggs|MBI can get it to connect to itself, but not from the host yet16:44
tgm4883Shiggs|MB, in mythtv-setup, what do you have the IP addresses set to?16:45
Shiggs|MByeah I'm checking16:46
Shiggs|MBit was set wrong16:47
Shiggs|MBomg if this works I'll so gd happy16:47
gracentlol16:47
Shiggs|MBI'll be*16:49
Shiggs|MBI also assigned more CPUs to it lol16:49
Shiggs|MBI was wondering why it was so slow16:49
gracentyeah that kills vm's in vbox - apparently16:50
Shiggs|MBheh16:51
Shiggs|MBit was sh*t slow16:51
Shiggs|MBgod16:51
Shiggs|MBlol16:51
Shiggs|MBit was waiting for a schema upgrade lock16:52
Shiggs|MBo_O16:52
Shiggs|MBhmm videos play within VM login to backend17:09
Shiggs|MBbut sorta sluggish17:09
Shiggs|MBand no audio17:09
gracentcya later chaps17:11
Shiggs|MBlata17:12
hilohello, how can I see what firmware my HDPVR has on it? I ran the driver installer in windows, but it isn't clear if that only updated my driver or if the firmware as well23:13
superm1hilo: hdhomerun_config23:15
hilosuperm1, is that a utility?23:18
superm1hilo: yeah23:18
hilosuperm1, thanks23:18
superm1there is a GUI version too if you want23:18
hilocli is fine :)23:18
superm1in package hdhomerun-config-gui23:18
superm1kk23:18
hilothat works with the hauppauge hd-pvr? It is not an hd homerun device.23:19
superm1oh hdpvr23:21
superm1sorry i read that as HDHR, been dealing with HDHR problems this last hour23:21
superm1i'm not sure on HDPVR how to do that23:21
hilono problem thanks anyway23:21
hiloI have had this thing for 2 years and have yet to get it working in myth as a recorder23:22
superm1you might want to check mythtv-users and if no luck there on the ML23:22
hiloleft it on a shelf out of annoyance for a while. about to take another shot at it23:22
hiloalright thanks23:22
