BenMcLeanhey guys05:05
BenMcLeananybody know if ROS will run on top of lubuntu?05:06
BenMcLeani got a windows 7 computer to work from to install lubuntu on another computer (old netbook) which doesn't have a disc drive05:35
BenMcLeanit only has 512 MB of RAM, so I figure that means the alternative installer is needed05:36
BenMcLeanhow do I prepare this flash drive? the "Universal USB Installer" program doesn't support the alternative installer for lubuntu05:36
BenMcLeanlinux live usb creator seems to be working. dunno if that means the usb will be usable to install lubuntu or if it just wants to run live off the usb05:47
JohnDoe_71Rusyou can try netboot install05:49
Amgine<used 'Imagewriter' on debian, and it worked a charm.>05:51
BenMcLeani used linux live creator but install failed during the "select software" part after the configure package manager part06:38
BenMcLeanafter several retries, i eventually had it skip that and go to the next bit06:38
BenMcLeannot suprisingly, lubuntu doesn't actually load06:38
BenMcLeanjust gives blank screen at first boot06:38
BenMcLeani'll try the regular installer in case that magically works. dunno why the alternative lightweight installer isn't already the regular installer .... grumble grumble06:48
BenMcLeanhrm this netbook has a 4 gb hard drive and 512 mb of ram07:08
BenMcLeanlubuntu installer seems to be saying it requires 4.4 gb hard drive07:08
holsteini used to load up on 4gb sd cards07:08
BenMcLeanthat seems ... overboard. is it reallly that big?07:08
holsteinBenMcLean: i wouldnt worry with what says what.. and who says who.. what do you want? the mini iso?07:08
BenMcLeanmini iso? hadn't heard of that07:09
BenMcLeani got disconnected ealier and i'm on the web irc portal so i dont have logs. if anybody responded to me earlier, sry i misse dit07:09
holsteini would get https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD ..install, and then get the minimum that fits07:09
holsteinOR, take 8 bucks and get a 16gb sd card07:10
BenMcLeanhrm good idea07:10
BenMcLeanholstein is mini iso the same thing as this? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/11.04MinimalDiskSpace07:14
holsteinBenMcLean: i linked 12.0407:15
BenMcLeanarent we supposed to be on 12.10 now?07:17
holsteinBenMcLean: you linked 11.04... there is no "supposed"07:17
BenMcLeani mean 12.10 is newest stable07:18
BenMcLeanrelease07:18
holsteinhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD has both07:19
holsteini use 12.04.. the core is LTS07:19
BenMcLeancheck check, this window still working?07:22
holstein?07:23
BenMcLeanwhen i download it and try it, it's not lubuntu it's regular ubuntu. what gives07:23
holsteinBenMcLean: lubuntu *is* ubuntu07:23
holsteinBenMcLean: you install mini ubuntu.. then install what you like.. lxde for example07:23
BenMcLeano i c07:23
holsteinyou can sudo apt-get whatever will fit07:23
BenMcLeani'm gonna have to do that tomorrow or some other time. three failed install attempts is my quota for tonight yawn07:26
BenMcLeanthanks for the advice holstein07:26
holsteinBenMcLean: sure.. check the sums too07:26
BenMcLeanthe 16 gb sd card sounds like a ttly good idea07:26
holstein!md5 | BenMcLean07:26
ubottuBenMcLean: To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows07:26
BenMcLeanholstein, since i'm installing via USB, i'm not sure that really makes sense in this case07:26
holsteinBenMcLean: i use unetbootin07:27
holsteinthe fact that its installing from or to USB doesnt matter to the software or hardare07:27
holsteinhardware*07:27
BenMcLeankk well goodnight thanks :)07:29
holsteinim sure you'll sort it out07:29
BenMcLeanhope so07:29
holsteini install *buntu on eeepc's all the time07:29
jentehi, i am running lubuntu 12.10 on an intel Q35 express chipset/GMA 3100 (lubuntu using kernel module i915, Xorg with DRI2 and UXA enabled) on a 1920x1200 screen. full-screen video playback with mplayer (not mplayer2) seems sluggish or choppy, i would say some artifacts are visible, too. is that a driver issue/misconfiguration or is the hardware too weak?14:12
jentefrom what i pick up on the net, the hardware should be able to deal with that, but the ubuntu wiki on intel performance from april 2012 mentions issues with UXA/DRI2 - which seems to have been solved14:17
a_b0ywhen connecting smartphone to computer how do i allow Ubuntu to share its internet connection? thanks14:57
a_b0ywhen connecting smartphone to computer how do i allow Ubuntu to share its internet connection? thanks15:09
