If I run update-manager -d the GUI dialog pops up and says 13.04 is available but if I then select to upgrade the app exits and on the command line it says no new version is available. [22:17] xapel, I upgraded by DL iso and upgrading that way. I also backed everything up first [22:19] xapel: sudo sed -e ’s/\quantal/raring/g’ -i /etc/apt/sources.list [22:19] then do a apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade [22:20] bobweaver: I was hoping to just do it the easy way [22:20] Jswing: thanks. will give it a go [22:20] there is also what Jswing said but I did not want to say that [22:21] because last time I said that in this channel I got banned [22:21] why ? [22:21] because I came back next day and said that gui was not working [22:21] why is update-manager - d not working? [22:21] xapel, there is *no * alpha [22:21] that is why [22:21] I think [22:22] xapel: you would have to tell us what the error is, although I do notice at least bug 1079251 [22:22] Launchpad bug 1079251 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) "Upgrade to raring fails with UnicodeDecodeError ( 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd0) when using russian locale" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1079251 [22:22] also bug 1079989 [22:22] Launchpad bug 1079989 in update-manager (Ubuntu) "Development version upgrade button not working" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1079989 [22:23] Jswing, maybe sudo sed -i 's|quantal|raring|g' /etc/apt/sources.list what is difference ?> [22:23] ok, i'll see if I can replicate the error quickly [22:23] just wondering for knowledge [22:24] I think I see that -e runs though ? then -i replaces ? maybe I am wrong [22:25] why ? [22:27] Jswing, no I was asking for my own gain I do not know what -e does just trying to learn . Sorry [22:27] looking at man [22:28] ok, when I run sudo update-manager -d. a dialog pops up [22:28] it says The software on this computer is up to date, however, Ubuntu 13.04 is now available (you have 12.10). [22:29] there are 3 buttons [22:29] settings... [22:29] upgrade [22:29] ok [22:29] I hit Upgrade [22:29] the dialog disappears [22:30] on the command line it says [22:30] Checking for a new Ubuntu release [22:30] No new release found [22:31] xapel: what is prompt= in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades ? [22:31] f not options.quiet: [22:31] print(_("No new release found")) [22:31] sys.exit(NO_RELEASE_AVAILABLE) [22:31] lines 125 --- 130 [22:32] how to do set -x in python ? like in bash [22:32] trism: normal [22:33] bobweaver: you can't, that I know of, you could use pdb though [22:33] thanks trism , [22:34] bobweaver: http://www.doughellmann.com/PyMOTW/trace/ [22:35] nifty [22:38] cool stuff jtaylor ! [22:38] everything is possible in python :) [22:38] (except decent threading ._. ) [22:39] lol [22:39] yeah I need to sopend some more time with py and less with qt qml and c++ javascript ect [22:40] s|sopend|spend|g ^^ [22:41] So I went out to dinner last night with girl friends fathers (gay couple) and I was wearing my raring ringtail shirt. and they where laughing at it.
