cdoublejjthat escalated quickly not only did install grub to my ssd it's broke oh well i'll just bootrec it00:41
BenMcLeanhey. i was in here earlier confused cause i didn't know the difference between lubuntu-core and lubuntu-desktop03:15
BenMcLeanSo i did sudo apt-get lubuntu-desktop and everything is here that is supposed to be, except that it's not finding any wireless networks03:16
BenMcLeanI was able to get it to detect wireless networks when I installed 12.10 the other day but I need 12.0403:16
BenMcLeanon 12.04, the wireless stuff in the wireless menu is greyed out03:16
holsteinBenMcLean: you can try different drivers for the wifi.. i usually plug them in wired and see if there are any restricted drivers available.. i would also just apply upgrades and see if an upgrade "fixes" it03:29
holsteincould be permissions...03:30
BenMcLeanno restricted drivers03:34
BenMcLeanhow do i set permissions?03:34
BenMcLeanapparently, network manager doesn't recognize that I have a wireless device on this machine03:35
BenMcLeanwhich i found out from nmcli03:35
holsteinBenMcLean: well, you would first need to determine if its a permisions error03:35
holsteinBenMcLean: when you say "wifi access points are greyed out", that doesnt sound to me like it doesnt recognize your device03:35
BenMcLeanhere's the results from running lspci http://pastebin.com/bupAsWcF03:43
BenMcLeani could be misidentifying something but it doesn't look like wireless is on there03:43
BenMcLeanwhich is odd, because i installed linux using the wifi03:44
BenMcLeancat /proc/net/dev has lo: and eth0:03:48
BenMcLeanwhat is the "lo" ?03:49
holsteinBenMcLean: if it were me? i would hook it up wired... check for and apply all upgrades.. reboot, and see if the wifi is there03:49
holsteinBenMcLean: lo = loopback03:49
BenMcLeanah03:49
BenMcLeanalready tried that holstein03:49
BenMcLeanno wait03:49
BenMcLeanhow check for upgrades03:49
BenMcLeanits plugged in wired now03:49
holsteinBenMcLean: however you check.. the update manger.. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade ..whatever you do03:50
holsteinmight be a kernel upgrade that "fixes" it..03:50
BenMcLeanfound update manager aleady nvm thx03:50
holsteinsure.. but you need to run it.. upgrade, and reboot into the newer kernel03:51
BenMcLeanit says no updates to install03:51
BenMcLeanrebooting anyhow03:51
holsteinalso, if its not showing in lspci, that makes me think its off... by the switch, or in the bios03:52
BenMcLeanjust checked bios. no03:54
BenMcLeani have not found any wifi switch on this machine03:55
BenMcLeaninteresting ... now it's saying "waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration" during boot03:55
BenMcLeannow it says booting system without full network configuration03:56
holsteinwell, that doesnt matter to much, though it is annoying03:57
BenMcLeannow network menu is completely disabled. says "network manager not running"03:58
holsteinBenMcLean: i would run live CD's til everything works03:58
holsteini usually use those as a tool... otherwise, i would run the 12.10 live CD, run lspci.. and search "ubuntu 12.04 that model card"03:59
BenMcLeanso basically, reinstall lubuntu. AGAIN.03:59
holsteinthats not what i said.. or meant to implay03:59
holsteinimply*03:59
holsteinim just saying, i dont have enough information to help you.. since the wifi device is not even showing up now04:00
holsteinbooting a 12.10 live CD would tell you a few things.. is the wifi card still functioning properly? and what is the lspci output?04:00
BenMcLeanthis netbook has no optical drive. have to use usb.04:01
holsteinsure.. substitute 'CD" for however you boot isos04:01
holsteini use USB mostly as well04:01
BenMcLeank well i'll see what i can do. thx and bye for now. :)04:07
chromeprobi installed the latest chrome  Version 23.0.1271.64 on 12.04 and the macromedia flash does not appear in plugins! what gives?04:30

MroiZoHi everybody, can any one help me with a kinda odd problem? I have an external keyboard plugged into my laptop running lubuntu 12.10, but i'm not able to type "@" and other special characters until i type something (anything) on the built in keyboard... (it's an english system, with danish keyboard, lubuntu 12.10)... everything works fine on LinuxMint but as i remember i had the same problem on Ubuntu a while back21:43
MroiZoI don't even know what to search for on google...21:44
jude0MroiZo you have wrong layout most likely try: sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration21:54
MroiZojude0, well that didn't work either...22:06
jude0MroiZo, is it possible that the mint version has a newer kernel version than the lubuntu that you are currently running, if so, maybe just trying a newer kernel could fix it22:32
MroiZoI'll have a look at it tomorrow, my girlfriend tells me it's time for bed :P but thanks22:35
