kickoreQuick question with hopefully a short answer11:05
kickorewhy does my install keep randomly forgetting I have a keyboard and mouse11:05
flipHowdy folks :) Installing Ubuntu Studio now...exciting times.12:14
flipKind of neat to drop into IRC _during_ the installation process.12:15
cfhowlettflip: 12.04?12:15
flipJust grabbed the latest stable of the site minutes ago.12:16
flipDidn't catch the version foolishly.12:16
flipcfhowlett: anything I should watch out for? :)12:16
flipinstall complete. Going down for reboot. Ciao for now.12:17
cfhowlettgood luck!  Personally, my preference is to use LTS only releases and avoid the biannual upgrade headache.12:20
flipcfhowlette: 12.04 indeed12:25
cfhowlettflip: nice.  Enjoy.12:36
Sarexpert_I have just installed UbuntuStudio 12.04 to Oracle Virtualbox on Win 7.  Any suggestions on any special settings.  I set up a 64 Gig fixed size "disk" and gave it 1 Gig of memory.15:12
Sarexpert_Also, I am very familiar with Gnome 2, and XFCE is new to me.  Thoughts on putting in a limited Gnome 2 desktop?15:14
zequenceSarexpert_: You might not get the audio performance you'd like using a virtual install. What are you using US for?15:27
ravenhi15:40
ravenhow to create mp3-chapters in audacity?15:40
len-dtraven, first I need to know what a chapter is is an MP#.15:49
len-dtI can guess... but I don't know.15:49
ravensome mp3 podcasts have chapter marks i can jump to with vlc like dvd chapter marks - i need to do that too15:50
len-dtThat was what I thought.15:51
len-dtI suspect that audacity doesn't do that on it's own and they would have to be added later.15:52
len-dtid3v2 does that though.15:53
len-dtthere is also libid3-tools15:55
ravenare theese timeline tools?15:56
len-dtI am not sure. Just looking through the installer.... Just opened audacity to look at that.15:57
ravenok i have to cut an event realtime so i cannot test theese tools now15:58
ravenill look at it later15:58
len-dtaudacity does not do this.15:59
len-dtI can understand why you would want that though, sort of a gcdmaster for mp3s.15:59
len-dtI think most people in music ship a set of files, but chapters make sense to me.16:00
len-dttry this:16:06
len-dthttp://www.ehow.com/how_12212042_make-chapters-audacity.html16:06
len-dtIt seems there is a way to make chapters in audacity... but not in the export section where I looked.16:07
len-dtraven ^^^16:07
len-dtNope, that is not what you want, It just splits the file into smaller files.16:11
ravenlen-dt are you there?17:08
Len-nbraven, Ya17:10
ravennow i need any way to add chapters17:10
raveni looked at the two apps but i do not know how to use it for that17:11
Len-nbI am not sure either. It seems that the chapter part of the id3v2 is not included in the main spec, but is an addendum.17:12
ravenhow to find out? i would work with entering each chapter by hand but how to use id3v2?17:12
Len-nbThis means that having an id editor or a player that is compliant does not mean it has chapters.17:13
raven?17:13
Len-nbThere is not much information on this... even though it has been around since 200517:14
holsteini listen to a lot of pocasts, and have never used chapters... is that a featuer of a particular player raven ?17:14
ravenat least of vlc but i need this option17:14
Len-nbI think it is the mp3 editor/encoder/idmaker17:15
holsteinsure.. im just trying to determine what that option is, as i have not heard of it17:15
Len-nbIt is there holstein ,but not common.17:15
ravenfor example at webradio stations you have changing id tags and i think that is nothing different to chapters17:15
raventheese are just changing ids17:16
holsteinraven: it is quite different17:16
holsteinraven: an id tage is an id tag.. chapters are like placeholders17:16
Len-nbchapter tags reside at the begining of the mp3 file17:16
ravenanything like "enhanced podcasts" which also is able to include changing images17:16
Len-nbthere is also a set of TOC tags17:16
ravenanyway how to add this to an mp3?17:17
Len-nbraven, I think any of us would have to do the same research you would to find out.17:18
holsteinraven: import the audio to ardour.. export to whatever.. convert to mp3.. though that is overkill for what you want17:18
holsteinraven: what is the goal?17:18
holsteinraven: if you are creating the content, and wanting to create markers for listeners, i wouldnt bother...17:19
holsteini would say few know about them... or use them17:19
holsteini think after digging around and coming up with some 'less than elegant' solution, you'll be able to implement something several people will notice17:20
Len-nbholstein, in a two hour podcast it would be nice to listen to 20 min and come back to it with out having to try to find the same place.17:20
holsteinsure, but thats not a chapter mark.. thats a feature of my playter17:21
Len-nbThe problem is that any of the podcasts I listen to are made by people who just barely know how to record the audio file and package to mp317:21
holsteinplayer*.. it resumes17:21
holsteinhttp://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=6807517:22
Len-nbIt could be a chapter mark.17:22
holsteinhttp://id3v2-chap-tool.sourceforge.net/17:22
holsteinhttp://forum.videohelp.com/threads/285036-How-would-I-create-points-or-chapters-throughout-my-mp3-audio-file17:22
holsteinhttp://www.tomshardware.com/forum/47790-6-create-chapters-long-file17:22
holsteinraven: i would also not search "mp3" for this.. you can create the chapters in whatever format and convert to mp317:22
holsteinraven: searching mp3 uneccessarily limits the search.. when all you want is chapters in an audio file17:23
ravenok have to do later17:24
