[02:02] Len-nb: in deed [02:02] As -lowlatency is greatly improving performance over -generic, we still lack a few ms [02:36] The trends in hardware and software seem to be throughput over latency. I read through the PCIe versions and that is the progression. [02:37] The overhead for small packets is the same as for large packets. [02:45] It was good to get an understanding of why serial is able to do faster data movement than parallel. [03:34] Len-nb: You into classical? Found some old stuff I did about 10 years ago https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12809728/1%20-%20Orchestral%20piece%20in%20g%20flat%20minor.flac [03:44] Almost sounds like a pipe organ in some places, but then I guess the pipe organ is one of the earliest tries at trying to sound like an orchestra. [03:44] zequence, well from a keyboard [03:47] Len-nb: It's my Roland XV-5050. [03:47] I've made some of the sounds myself. And the register at which some instruments are playing wasn't exactly optimally orchestrated [03:48] Synth and not sample? [03:48] Synth [03:49] I was working a lot with the synth module for orchestral sounds. The default sounds are not really all good for that [03:50] Of course, I didn't create the synth "samples" [03:50] There's a bank of several hundreds of samples of which all presets are based on [03:50] waveforms. I'm sure you know [03:52] Here's a fugue https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12809728/4%20-%20Fugue%20in%20C.flac [03:53] And a cinematic sort of piece https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12809728/2%20-%20Cinematic%20Piece.flac [03:53] I did a whole lot of music, but have deleted most of it [03:54] This is more 1910 style https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12809728/3%20-%20Piano%20Piece.flac [03:54] All of them style studies, compositional practices [04:05] zequence, while I do have more appreciation than at one time, the fact that I can't read music in time says a lot :) [04:06] I do chord charts and follow peoples hands and my ears. [04:14] I got into classical music after seeing Amadeus as a teenager. Went to music high school. Got in after only playing music for 1 1/2 years, and learnt notes just before the auditions. During my time in school I felt the time spent on theory/composition was so small, I really just kept learning on my own. Went through everything they had in the library [04:16] Applied to University, but didn't realize what they were looking for in composition students, so I failed to enter. I could easily get in now, but haven't felt like applying for the longest time [04:17] I have a problem with the institutions around that sort of music [04:19] It's not that uncommon for people to start studying again at a later age. Schubert went back to school in his 30s [04:19] Takes a long time to get your compass straightened out. [04:19] Just like in life as a whole [04:24] zequence, ya, been there alright. [14:25] zequence, interesting thread about RTC and HPET on LAU the last few days [14:26] len-dt: Yep
