YoBoYhi11:41
YoBoYgodbyk, I have a possible workaround for the French non breaking space problems to let us use polyglossia punctuation, some french Latex guru, told me to just add a \catcode`\ =1011:45
YoBoYchanging the catcode to declare this non breaking space caracter " " as a space and not an "other caracter" like it is by default. This seems to work11:46

CarstenGHi Hannie16:37
hanniehello my friends16:38
CarstenGNice to see, that the Dutch translation is finnished16:38
hannieyes, yesterday was a struggle, today everything went smoothly16:38
CarstenGCan you please push you latest nl.po to LP?16:38
hannieI did already. Anything amiss?16:39
hannieI opted for the screenshot instead of marginscreenshit for 3.3316:39
hanniebecause baselineskip did not look good16:39
hannie*oops screenshot16:40
CarstenGthe \appendixname?16:40
hannieI changed that to how it was in a previous file, just copied it16:41
hannielet me see16:41
cqfd93Hello!16:41
hannie\\hyperref[ch:"16:41
hannie"license]{\\appendixname}~\\ref{ch:license}16:41
hanniehi Sylvie16:42
CarstenGHi Sylvie16:42
CarstenGYes, Hannie. :-) THis is like it should be and was before rev 128 :-)16:42
manualbothttp://bazaar.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual/revision/128 | http://bazaar.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual -r 12816:42
hannieCarstenG, is that not ok?16:43
CarstenGLook again in my email from yesterday. :-)16:43
CarstenGbe back in 15 min...16:44
hannieaha, so it was also wrong before I changed it. I'll have a look, or you can tell me here16:44
hanniecy CarstenG16:44
hannieCarstenG, I have to go. I have just pushed my latest version.16:53
hannieI did it earlier today, but I do not see it in LP. Strange, because there was no difference after bzr pull and bzr status.16:55
hannieI hope it will arrive this time.16:55
hannieIt says Revision 134 on my pc16:56
hannieThis is odd too, the latest revision I see is 132. So perhaps my revision 133 got lost somewhere :(16:57
hannieCorrection: now I see 133 and 134. They are the same16:58
godbykYoBoY: We can adjust the catcode as you say. Then LaTeX would treat that non-breaking space as a regular space (i.e., as if you'd hit the space bar on the keyboard).  Is that the effect you want it to have?16:59
hannieI still do not understand why you did not see 133 (sent 1 hour ago)16:59
hanniehey godbyk17:00
godbykYoBoY: Do we need to do the same for the narrow non-breaking space ([nnbsp])?17:00
godbykHey, hannie.17:00
cqfd93hi kevin!17:01
godbykHello, Sylvie!17:01
hanniegodbyk, I think the Dutch version of Precise-e2 is ready for publishing17:01
godbykhannie: Excellent!17:01
hannielet me know if you still find anything that needs to be corrected17:02
godbykhannie: Will do!  I'll take a look at it soon.17:02
cqfd93kevin, what do you mean with "do the same for the narrow non-breaking space ([nnbsp])" ?17:03
hannieok, thanks17:03
hanniesee you all17:04
cqfd93see you later hannie!17:04
godbykcqfd93: Ah, YoBoY (about 5 hours ago), mentioned that we changing the meaning of [nbsp] in LaTeX to a regular space may allow LaTeX to properly handing the spacing around punctuation even if the translators insert [nbsp] in the translation.17:04
godbykcqfd93: So I was asking if we'd need to make the same change for [nnbsp].17:05
cqfd93I see17:06
CarstenGbe back17:06
godbykI'll be back after a while. I have to run a few errands and then I'm stuck in a meeting this afternoon for a bit.17:10
cqfd93We haven't used a lot of these [nnbsp] - I would say yes, but I'll let YoBoY answer17:10
cqfd93See you later17:10
YoBoYgodbyk, the [nnbsp] already exist in launchpad? not sure about that…17:49
YoBoYor are you refering to the real caracter " " ?17:50
YoBoYI think we can treat it the same way for the " " caracter17:51
godbykYoBoY: There were a few narrow non-breaking spaces in the French translation at one point. I don't know if they still exist or not.18:18
YoBoYdon't know too18:18
YoBoYwe can start by fixing that for raring18:19
godbykI'll make the adjustments in the raring repository soon so you can test it out.18:19
godbyk(Though you can't actually translate anything in raring yet.)18:20
YoBoYwe are too close to a release I think to change something like that now :)18:20
YoBoY(for quantal and precise)18:21
godbykI understand.18:21
godbykWhen I get some time, I'll make a test run on precise-e2 with those settings just to see if it has the desired effect.18:21
YoBoYok :)18:22
YoBoYI continue on my side to find the best solution, perhaps I need to raise a bug on polyglossia to add this king of fix.18:24
cqfd93the [nnbsp]  still exist in the French translation : https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual/precise-e2/+pots/ubuntu-manual/fr/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=quand+vous+devez+suivre+une+consigne+comme18:31
YoBoYit's converted into the narrow non breakig space (unicode 202F)18:38
YoBoY(in the .po file)18:38
YoBoYso we can keep it in launchpad and fix it in the .clo with the catcode18:39
cqfd93Yes18:41
godbykYoBoY, cqfd93: http://builds.ubuntu-manual.org/builds/ubuntu-manual-fr-latex-spacing.pdf shows the effect of using LaTeX spacing and setting the non-breaking spaces to category 10 (space).18:46
godbykYoBoY: I added some code to the um-french.clo file to the precise-e2 repository to handle the catcode changes. Just uncomment it (and comment out the three lines of code above it) to try it out yourself.18:46
* cqfd93 downloading it :-) Thank you!18:47
godbykKeep in mind that some changes were made manually to the .po file (e.g., the spacing inside the quotation marks), so it may not appear as it would if LaTeX were handling all the spacing itself.19:02
cqfd93kevin : yes, the spaces inside the quotation marks are too big in your pdf, they are bigger than regular spaces.19:08
cqfd93Except for the spaces inside quotation marks, everything looks good.19:09
YoBoYgodbyk, merci beaucoup :)19:10
cqfd93Could you please replace some of the \, with normal spaces and rebuild the pdf?19:10
YoBoYcqfd93, it was just a test, we keep our actual work ;)19:11
godbykcqfd93: I'll try that next. First I have to head to a meeting, though.19:11
godbykYoBoY: If you still have the translation-test-fr.tex file, you can use that to test the various spacing settings.19:12
godbykTry adding in nbsp and nnbsp manually to see how LaTeX handles that with the catcodes.19:12
cqfd93No hurry, kevin!  Thank you!19:13
YoBoYgodbyk, I'll do that, but not now, I'm too busy now and I absolutely need to write a mail to the volunteer of our past ubuntu party to thanks them first :)19:14
godbykYoBoY: No rush. I have to take care of a few other things today, too.19:17
godbykYoBoY: Another option would be to set those space characters to category 9 so that they're ignored entirely. (I haven't tried this yet.)19:26
godbykOff to my meeting now.19:26
cqfd93See you later!19:27
