usr13I seem to have a problem.  I've tried to join #ubuntu but joined #ubuntu-ops.  So what is up?03:26
usr13Hello?03:27
bazhangjust a moment usr1304:06
bazhangusr13, you there?04:11
yenomubot93  >  ubottu ?04:22
bazhangyenom, = usr13?04:23
bazhangyenom, you're ban forwarded here to discuss before being allowed back in #ubuntu04:27
bazhangyenom, changing your nick to surpass the ban is not the way to resolve it04:28
yenomSo what should I do to resolve it?04:30
bazhangI've changed the ban so thats not possible any more04:31
yenomReally?04:31
yenomSo..............?04:31
bazhangyou're not in #ubuntu any longer, so yes04:31
yenomOk, well, have fun... I guess...........04:32
bazhangperhaps now you'd like to have that discussion04:32
bazhangor not04:32
elkyyou talked crosspurposes04:32
bazhangif he had waited just a moment longer, or responded as usr13...04:33
elkyyeah04:33
bazhangoh well04:33
bazhangnot the first time for this kind of issue with him04:33
Unit193usr13 is actually still here, so unless that's about to time out...04:33
usr13Yea, I'm here04:33
usr13What kind of issue?04:34
bazhangso ready to discuss?04:34
usr13Sure....04:34
bazhangarguing about sudo?04:35
usr13Yes.......?04:35
bazhangwhat was your point there04:35
usr13That just because someone used sudo that would not wreck permissions in ~/04:36
bazhangI missed it, so if you would not mind giving a re-cap04:36
usr13I suppose if you chown or chmod yea, but just because you use sudo or a root shell?  no04:36
bazhangas opposed to something else?04:36
bazhangwhy would you need sudo in your home?04:37
usr13Just what I said.  Someone spoke about getting into a root shell and another said that if they did, they'd hose up permissions in ~/  Well that's just not so.  He could have specified how that would happen.  I was just hoping to give him the chance to clarify how it could happen, and not just say that by activating sudo or a root shell that it would magically happen.04:38
usr13All I said is that, no, simply using sudo  or  a root shell  wouldn't wreck permissions in   ~/04:39
usr13Now he could have come back and said, well yes, but any files you save in /user/my-name/  would be owned by root and that could constitute a permission problem, etc. or something to that effect... Or I would have... but... Oh well.04:41
usr13I think that people deserve to be told what they are up-against and not just taboos, don't talk about sudo  or root shell.  Why not talk about it.  People come to these channel's to learn about Linux.  Right?  Well, we should let them / help them.04:42
usr13That is a great deal of what IRC is about. And that is a great deal of what OSS is all about.04:43
bazhangI believe you were asked to move on from the argument04:43
usr13As to why you would need sudo in home?  Well that is a good question.  I would also ask the same question.04:43
usr13If one initiates a root shell, they would be in /  not /home/user04:44
usr13So yea, the statement the other guy made was in error.04:44
usr13I intend for people to correct me as well, if I say something in error.  I WANT to be corrected.04:44
usr13And I did move from the argument.  You can look and see.  I typed not another word about it.  If you would like to go back and look, I welcome you to.04:45
bazhangI missed it, and just trying to understand the context04:46
usr13And what do you mean, "this is not the first time for this kind of issue with him"?04:46
bazhangarguing past being asked to drop something04:47
usr13If you think I'm a trouble maker, leave the ban on.04:47
usr13That is not the case.  I did not argue passed being asked to drop something.04:48
bazhang10:34 < usr13> IdleOne: YOU DROP IT!04:49
usr13I'm arguing now... so....04:49
usr13oh well....04:49
bazhangthen immediately quitting04:49
elkyo.O05:08
bazhang<snowyrooftops> Jbuss, try ArchLinux05:51
bazhangthis was following several testimonials for MINT (also from snowyrooftops)05:51
Tm_Tsudo can mess up file ownerships in ~/05:56
Tm_Teasily05:56
bazhangwish we had a working bot/bantracker etc06:01
Tm_TI believe only "sudo -i" does give root user with /root/ as home06:01
Tm_Tso all other methods can lead to files created/owned by root in normal user's homedir06:01
Tm_Tthis is why you should never run gui apps with sudo btw06:01
bazhangnever understood why anyone would *ever* use sudo or sudo -i with the home directory06:01
Tm_Tbazhang: sudo -i makes sense06:02
bazhanggksudo/kdesu(do)06:02
Tm_T"sudo -i" gives you the proper root shell06:03
bazhangused it perhaps *once* in many years of UBuntu use06:03
bazhangor that was gksudo iirc06:04
IdleOnehe was banned because of the rage quit after being asked to drop it.06:11
bazhangTm_ T?06:11
bazhangoh usr1306:12
IdleOneusr13 but I'm all for banning Tm_T also06:12
bazhang!agreed06:12
bazhangoh shut it ubot9306:12
Tm_Tbazhang: well, you don't run gui apps from root shell either (:06:14
bazhanggksudo nautilus, and just the once...06:15
Tm_Tthat's totally different from root shell, which is a good thing06:16
IdleOnegksudo jockey-gtk ot kde06:16
Tm_T...mrunagi is ok in #ubuntu?06:19
Tm_T!skype06:24
Tm_Toh, right06:24
ubot93To install Skype on Ubuntu, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype - To record on Skype, check: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeRecordingHowto - Please use open protocols instead if you can, see !Ekiga06:24
Tm_TI wonder how this is "not supporting recent releases" http://blogs.skype.com/garage/2012/11/skype_41_for_linux.html06:28
blacknesshow do i go about getting a ban removed?10:40
ikoniajust ask10:40
ikoniawhy where you banned ?10:40
blacknessfirst time, a comment was taken wrong, second time because i connected to my bnc to chat.10:40
ikoniaok - can you explain what happened ?10:41
blacknessyou banned me both times, do i really need to?10:41
blacknessFirst time, you took "netflix works on linux lol" wrong, Second time, Instead of reconnecting VIA ipv4, i used my bnc and evaded First ban.10:42
ikoniaahhh that's you10:44
ikoniayeah I'm not interested in resolving this with you, as when I asked you to just join #ubuntu-ops to sort it out, you thought it was clever to fire up your bnc to dodge and brag about it10:44
ikoniaI can't be bothered with that,10:44
blacknessso i get to just wait it out to whenever the ban list is cleared?10:45
ikoniauntil someone wants to remove the ban, I'd have removed it as I understand how comments can be taken wrong, which is why I asked you to join #ubuntu-ops and one of the team will sort it out10:46
ikoniaI'm only now not interested as you wanted to show off and dodge the ban and brag abou tit10:46
ikoniait10:46
blacknessi did that the first time. Oct 17th i believe was the date10:46
ikoniaand what happened then ?10:47
blacknesssilence.10:47
ikonia(this was a different nickname)10:47
ikonia(as I recall)10:47
blacknesswas linked to this one, but i dropped both nicks, and registered this one again.10:47
blacknessbut yes, it was another nick.10:47
ikoniaok,10:48
ikoniaif it was silent, it's probably as someone wasn't around/free10:48
ikoniaso either waiting or coming back would have been a wiser thing to do10:48
blacknessi waited all night, i assumed being IRC someone was alive.10:48
ikoniawell, it doens't look like they where10:49
ikonia(from what you are saying)10:49
blacknesseither way, if you unban me, great if not ill wait. i'm not going to continue to 'beg' for it.10:49
ikoniaI'm not asking you to beg10:49
ikoniaI'm not asking you to discuss it10:50
blacknessSo the end result is?10:50
ikoniaI'm not going to remove the ban as when I asked you to join #ubuntu-ops to resolve it you thought it better to evade the ban and brag about it10:50
blacknessand how long will this stay? when you feel like removing it?10:50
ikoniaso from me - I'm done with it10:50
blacknessokay. enjoy your night/day.10:51
ikoniauntil I or another member of the team (anyone in this team) changes it10:51
elfranne got a question, i have been banned  : You have been kicked from #ubuntu-fr by uBOTu-fr (2d -  abused proxy/vpn detected - uBOTu-fr) But i think it s an error ... i am work, or someone is spaming at work ?12:09
ikoniayou need to speak to the ubuntu-fr ops12:11
ikoniathey are in #ubuntu-irc or you can message them direct from /msg chanserv access #ubuntu-f list12:11
elfranne /msg chanserv access #ubuntu-fr list12:14
ikoniathat will show you the users12:15
ikoniayou can then message them direct to find out the problem12:15
