tjaaltonah09:55
shadeslayershould I just comment on bug 1098334 ?09:56
ubottubug 1098334 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "Font corruption in Chromium tab bar using Intel SNA" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/109833409:56
shadeslayeror file a new one09:56
tjaaltonyou have sandybridge?09:57
tjaaltonit's not the same bug then09:57
tjaaltonbest file a new one09:57
shadeslayeryep09:59
shadeslayertjaalton: there's also the issue where I lock the screen with steam running and unlock it, steam does not update itself10:00
shadeslayerso the lockscreen is visible where steam is10:00
tjaaltonsteam hangs?10:00
shadeslayermaybe10:00
shadeslayerit was consuming 100 % of my CPU10:00
shadeslayerhad to kill it10:00
shadeslayerbut can't reproduce now10:00
tjaaltonprobably not related to sna10:01
shadeslayerokay10:01
shadeslayeranyway, kwin seems to be working without any regressions10:01
tjaaltonwhat was the one you mentioned earlier?10:04
shadeslayerhuh?10:09
shadeslayerbug 1098489 is the one I'm facing10:09
ubottubug 1098489 in xorg (Ubuntu) "Corruption in Chrome omni bar results using Intel SNA " [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/109848910:09
tjaaltonshadeslayer: http://wstaw.org/m/2013/01/10/plasma-desktopS17003.png ?10:12
shadeslayerah that one10:12
shadeslayeryeah that's still present but hard to reproduce10:12
tjaaltonok, might be the same10:13
tjaaltonhard to tell10:13
shadeslayerit usually happens when something new enters and exits the taskbar in quick succession10:14
shadeslayerI'll try and find a way to do that programatically10:14
tjaaltonshadeslayer: btw, since you're using kubuntu, please install xdiagnose and run 'apport-collect 1098489' to attach debug logs there11:48
shadeslayersure11:49
shadeslayerbtw I switched rendering methods to Native and I couldn't reproduce it, and then I changed back to Native and then can't reproduce it 11:49
shadeslayererm11:49
shadeslayerthat second native should be raster11:49
shadeslayerbut I'll do it anyway11:50
tjaaltonfrom where?11:50
tjaaltonadd that to the bug11:50
shadeslayerthere's a KWin setting for that11:50
tjaaltonupstream is looking at it11:50
shadeslayertjaalton: http://wstaw.org/m/2013/01/11/plasma-desktopeo2259.png11:50
tjaaltonbtw, your launchpad id isn't 'shadeslayer' :)11:53
shadeslayerheh11:53
shadeslayersorry about that, I'm looking at so many things11:53
shadeslayerlost track of that field11:53
shadeslayerfixing11:54
tjaaltonand googling around suggests it's not a driver bug then11:54
tjaaltonhttps://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=9967311:55
* shadeslayer looks11:55
tjaaltonand old thread, but still11:56
shadeslayerhm11:57
tjaaltonanyway, think I'll close it as invalid then, native is the default anyway11:57
shadeslayeralright11:57
shadeslayerIt can easily be a chrome issue as well, just happened to show up when I switched methods11:59
tjaaltonactually, raster should be the default since jun '1112:03
tjaaltonor qt 4.812:03
tjaaltonso I'll leave it open12:06
shadeslayerhm, can't say, kwin defaults to native12:06
tjaaltonoh, has it been reverted since?12:07
shadeslayerdunno, It's not like I actively track X :P12:08
tjaaltonit's not X12:08
shadeslayerbut it's one of the 2 settings I customize when I do a fresh install12:08
tjaaltonbut kde12:08
tjaaltonand I know nothing about it12:09
* shadeslayer asks the kwin maintainer12:09
tjaaltongood12:09
shadeslayertjaalton: okay, I was mistaken, it does default to raster12:11
tjaaltonok12:15
shadeslayertjaalton: btw I'm using some specific parameters for the intel driver, would it be possible to ask upstream if those can be automagically detected for MacbookPro's ?12:27
mlankhorstask in intel-gfx?12:28
shadeslayerthanks, will do :)12:31
shadeslayerwith raring there are only some customizations I need to do to switch off the ATi card and just enable the intel card12:32
mlankhorstmore lucky than me, upstream kernel had some issues12:32
mlankhorst:P12:32
shadeslayerhehe12:32
mlankhorstor maybe you had as well, but haven't noticed yet12:32
mlankhorstwhen switching radeon on again through switcheroo, I lost all interrupts12:33
shadeslayerlol12:33
shadeslayerI've poorly documented my steps here : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro8-2/Raring12:34
mlankhorstoh I pulled some random git trees, applied patch, made things work without extra things in grub12:37
shadeslayerxD12:49
mlankhorstshadeslayer: if you want you can try14:16
shadeslayertry what?14:16
mlankhorstmy kernel, see if it works for you14:17
shadeslayerwill it enable graphics switching?14:17
mlankhorstshould work at least14:17
mlankhorstnot while x server is running though, I'm using it to test i915 + radeon optimus support14:18
shadeslayerhmm14:18
shadeslayerthat's fine14:18
shadeslayermlankhorst: can you suspend/resume?14:18
shadeslayerthat's one of the most important things for me14:18
mlankhorstafaict it works14:18
mlankhorsthttp://cgit.freedesktop.org/~mlankhorst/linux/14:18
shadeslayerother one being backlight control14:18
shadeslayerI'll have a look when I have some free time :)14:18
* shadeslayer has to make a release early next week14:19
tjaaltonricotz: bug 1093517 for you I guess14:19
ubottubug 1093517 in libdrm (Ubuntu) "libdrm-nouveau conflicts between versions" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/109351714:19
tjaalton" nouveau hangs during boot of life system, prevents installation"14:20
tjaaltonsomeone had a heart-attack?14:20
mlankhorst:(14:21
mlankhorstsounds like someone had a libdrm fail..14:21
tjaaltonwell I moved it to -nouveau14:23
mlankhorstit's a failure in someone's ppa, libdrm_nouveau1a should not have libdrm_nouveau.so.2.0.0 in it14:24
ricotzsounds like oibaf ppa14:25
mlankhorstclosed invalid14:25
tjaaltonah14:27
tjaaltongood14:27
tjaaltonthere's also many bugs of installation failures where libdrm-radeon/intel1:i386 complains about the changelog14:27
tjaaltonbut that might've been a buildd bug14:28
mlankhorstor some ppa interaction messing up14:28
mlankhorstat one point I did mess that up in a ppa, too :P14:29
tjaaltonyeah could ber14:29

tjaaltonok14:33
tjaaltonkeep the bug posted14:34
shadeslayerand idk why but performance is now down to 35 FPS14:34

bladernr_I'm sure I know the answer to this, but does anyone know of a way to reliably determine how much memory a video card gets from the system? (shared ram w/ integrated graphics)19:11
bladernr_that also works more "universally" :D <-- there's the rub... 19:11
brycebladernr_, saw my email?19:45
bladernr_I did, thanks.  19:46
bladernr_In reality, it's not even an X/Graphics related issue, its that we have a script that compares the memory BIOS claims is there vs what the OS claims to have, and wanted to add code to factor in actual shared video RAM 19:47
bladernr_that way we could account for large discrepancies...19:47
bladernr_and I don't really want to try writing something that has a different subroutine for each and every type of card or driver out there :(19:47
bladernr_at the basest level is it safe to assume that any memory descrepancy up to about 512MB can be attributed to video usage on a system with embedded graphics?19:48
brycebladernr_, proprietary drivers and foss drivers hardly ever do things the same way, so you're destined for disappointment if you want a universal tool...19:49
bladernr_yeah, I know... that was me being hopeful19:49
bladernr_bryce: but thanks for the information though, I do appreciate that and your expertise with this stuff19:50
brycebladernr_, lshw shows memory resources under the VGA controller, so there should be an interface to get that.  DMI maybe?19:53
bryceas to memory in use, the sysfs dri debug interface is the only one I know of, and that's different on every driver19:54
brycemlankhorst likely knows more about this.19:55
bladernr_Interesting, on my S10, lshw shows two display devices ... heh. 19:56
mlankhorstreally depends on card19:56
bladernr_bryce: yeah, even lshw is not reliable :) on my S10, it shows a total of 265MB for the video card. That's reasonable, but the OS is also showing the full 1.5GB of RAM available... sigh... where on my x201, the OS shows me short by 496MB, but only 200MB for video in use, which I suspect is not correct.(but can't confirm either way(20:05
bladernr_oh well, like I said, I was being hopeful... it's not a critical thing by any means anyway.20:05
bladernr_more exploratory20:05
