maswanHey, any reason for not building the kernels with CONFIG_NFS_V4_1? Even RHEL has it these days, and it is fairly annoying to have to maintain custom kernels just to be able to mount our storage...11:30
* ppisati -> out for lunch11:42
jpdsmaswan: Someone likely just needs to add it, Debian got it recently: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=+62765512:10
maswanHope someone<tm> does it soon then. :)12:15
henrixmaswan: i'm not aware of any reason not to include this option, but if you want it included, the best way is to open a bug with this request12:18
maswanwill do12:20
apwhenrix, isn't it on in raring already?12:22
maswanwould be most excellent if it could make it's way to a precise update too.12:22
maswanor is that too invasive?12:22
apwdebian.master/config/config.common.ubuntu:CONFIG_NFS_V4_1=y12:23
apwso definatly already in raring12:23
maswanexcellent12:23
apwit is not on in Q so I assume not before that either.  turning it on in older releases is harder, it would definatly need a bug, and lots of testing12:23
henrixapw: yes, its in raring12:24
henrixi checked in P and Q, and it is not there12:24
maswanyeah, we know it isn't in P, since we have a bunch of P servers that would like it. :)12:24
* apw concurs12:25
henrixmaswan: could you please open a bug with this and paste here the bug #? i'll follow up with this12:26
maswanhenrix: Yeah, dusting off my launchpad:ese now. :)12:27
maswanHm. A possible option for us would also be an r-to-p kernel backport in the wait for a new lts, I guess, assuming it works.12:27
henrixmaswan: r on p is also possible, yes12:28
maswanBut if there is a major kernel update scheduled for P anyway, this is a change that I'd very much would like to be considered for it12:29
henrixthis change would be included in the regular SRU cycles, not really in a major kernel update12:31
* maswan nods12:32
maswanhenrix: 111141612:39
henrixmaswan: ack, thanks. i'll make sure we'll have this option enabled soon12:41
* henrix -> lunch12:43
maswanawesome!12:48

apwbug #111141614:09
ubot2Launchpad bug 1111416 in linux (Ubuntu Quantal) "CONFIG_NFS_V4_1=y in Precise kernel update, please" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/111141614:09
apwmaswan, when you roll custom kernels is all you are changing from the main P kernel that option?  and if so and you have tested or even production run with that it would be good infrmation to have in the bug14:10
apwit all helps to tell us it is stable and feature complete back there14:11
maswanapw: We haven't yet, we're just deploying the new storage now. Will prod the guys in charge of that project to do that and test it proper.14:14
apwmaswan, or get henrix to post an 'official' test kernel with the changes he intends to apply 14:14
maswanapw: that would be even better14:14
henrixapw: maswan: will do that. i'll post a link in the bug to Q and P test kernels before submitting the patches14:15
maswanhenrix: excellent!14:15
apwppisati, i have been running your -omap kernel on omap4, and i think it just wedged15:41
apwppisati, seen anything like that?15:41
ppisatiapw: uhm no15:42
ppisatiapw: did it print anything?15:42
apwppisati, also i seem to have lost my heartbeat15:42
apwppisati, not anywhere i could see15:42
ppisatiapw: i compiled a kernel oevr usb and it was ok15:42
apwppisati, http://paste.ubuntu.com/1593378/15:46
henrixmaswan: i've just updated the bug with an URL to test kernels15:48
ppisatiapw: ok, i saw it in the past15:50
apwppisati, so did you say there was a bug open on this one ?15:52
apwppisati, i am probabally pretty rare in actually having ipv6 to trigger this15:52
maswanhenrix: thank you, we'll see if we can get some testing done tomorrow, or next week.15:53
apwppisati, if that is the actual cause of course15:53
apwppisati, anyhow i have also lost my heartbeat on that box, is that gone in 3.815:53
henrixmaswan: sure, no prob. just update the bug with any info, as i'll keep an eye on it15:53
ppisatiapw: led? probably config skew15:54
apwppisati, yeah the flash-flash  flash-flash  related to load thing15:54
ppisatiapw: there's a but about a slowpath being hit, and the reporter said the board was both ipv4/6 connected15:54
apwppisati, now i have no lights when it is idle, which is 15:54
ppisatiapw: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ti-omap4/+bug/103039715:54
ubot2Ubuntu bug 1030397 in linux-ti-omap4 (Ubuntu) "slowpath in tcp_recvmsg on pandaboard es" [Medium,Incomplete]15:54
apwnot what i am used to15:54
ppisatiapw: ok, i'll turn heartbeat on15:55
* ppisati has used more the imx6 lately15:55
ppisatithat's why i probably didn't notice it15:55
apwppisati, that bug looks different to me, here is a real BUG15:56
ppisatiapw: yes, it's different15:56
ppisatiapw: but i think i saw it15:56
ppisatiapw: apw and it didn't hangs my board15:57
apwit is hard to know whether it was the last thing, as the log is truncated at that point15:57
ppisatiapw: ok15:57
ppisatii'll push 2 patches for imx6, then i'll switch back to see this on omap415:57
apw ppisati np thanks16:03
apwppisati, i'll monitor it for a bit to see if it does it again16:03
caribou_ivoks: ping16:18
ivokscaribou_: yes?16:21
caribou_ivoks: any idea of what's happening with the SRU on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/+bug/83336816:21
ubot2Ubuntu bug 833368 in lvm2 (Ubuntu Precise) "clustered lvm commands fail with "activation/monitoring=0 is incompatible with clustered Volume Group" error" [Undecided,In progress]16:21
xnoxi am meant to upload it.16:22
xnoxbut got carried away in the sprint this week.16:22
ivokscaribou_: ^ i'm not the right person for the question :)16:22
xnoxcaribou_: is it urgent?16:22
caribou_xnox: ah, ok I just didn't see it in any of the SRU queues16:22
* ppisati goes away for 20mins16:51
apwppisati, elloco died again .. this time with the disk light on17:03
ppisatiapw: let me turn on my panda17:18
apwppisati, nothing in syslog this time, just wedged17:20

argesanybody getting 'fail to flush all tx fifo queues' with 3.8.0-2 on their centrino intel w/ iwlwifi driver?17:35
henrixarges: yeah, i've seen it as well. but it should be fixed with c3e5d7181afb66657393066bccce0956fab09ab317:36
argeshenrix: ok so that's in the next raring kernel?17:37
henrix(haven't tested it myself as i rarely use wifi)17:37
arges3.8.0-3?17:37
henrixarges: i guess so, its mainlined17:38
henrixarges: here's the lkml thread i recently saw: https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/1/28/60317:39
ogasawaraarges: I don't think we have it just yet in raring, but I'll cherry-pick it for now17:41
argesogasawara: or I can do it. either way : )17:41
ogasawaraarges: meh, easy enough for me.  I'll let you build your own kernel though.  we just missed the upload this morning.17:41
argesogasawara: ok17:42
henrixarges: ogasawara: note that i haven't tested it myself -- i just saw this thread in lkml, which caught my attention because i hit the same issue during weekend17:43
henrix(and completely forgot about it until arges remind me about it :-) )17:44
argeswell i can test 17:44
ogasawaraarges: so maybe let me know how your test goes first and then I'll cherry-pick it17:44
argesogasawara: ack17:44
argesshould i file a new bug to track this btw?17:44
ogasawaraarges: nah, since it's the dev release we can be a little more lenient with the process17:45
argesok great. baking a new kernel...17:45
ogasawaraarges: plus we'll eventually pick it up whenever -rc6 goes out and we rebase17:45

ppisatiapw: bt it's still compiling18:06
apwyeah mine did that a lot before it stopped dead18:07
ppisatiapw: i'll let it finish a kernel compilation, then i'll ifup an ipv6 interface18:11

apwppisati, yep, we've been trying to get fixes for that out for months18:58
apwppisati, ultimatly it is terrible firmware which loses its mind18:58
apwppisati, how do the dtbs get supplied to the kernel for the omap3/4 use ?19:07
ppisatiapw: we don't use them in panda&c yet19:07
ppisatiapw: if you want to use it, you need to manually copy to the fat partition19:07
apwppisati, so how does the kernel know it is for omap3/4 and adapt without the dtb19:08
ppisatiapw: and then modifiy uEnv.txt to load it19:08
apwi thought the point was it used the dtb to know what it was on19:08
infinityppisati: What Andy's asking isn't "how do I use a dtb on Panda", but "how does the kernel know it's booting on a Panda"?19:09
ppisatiapw: arm/arch/mach-omap/boards* file are still compiled in19:09
infinityppisati: And if the answer is "it's build to assume it's on OMAP", that could explain why we can't make it work on vexpress.19:09
apwppisati, yeah i have been trying to boot the same kenrel on vexpress and its not having it for me at least, dispite appearing to be enabled19:09
apwppisati, even supplying a dt19:10
apwdtb to qemu ...19:10
ppisatiapw: let me try19:10
apwppisati, thanks19:10
ppisatiapw: ah, maybe i know what's going on19:16
ppisatiapw: i think they are attaching the DTB at the end of the kernel19:17
ppisatiapw: so you don't see they are passing it19:17
ppisatiapw: and of course we can't do it19:17
apwso you mean i would need to add the dtb to vmlinux for it to work19:18
apwvmlinuz even19:18
apweven in qemu with -dtb support19:18
apwppisati, can i leave you to try and figure out if it can be done manually19:20
apwppisati, so we can later figure out what one has to do to make it work right19:20
ppisatiapw: yep19:25
apwthanks19:25
