ovidiu-florinWhat is live session (Netbook) testcase? How should I test this? http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/254/builds/37267/testcases00:52
ovidiu-florinScottK: ^00:53
Riddellovidiu-florin: you need to run it on a netbook00:56
Riddellit'll run plasma-netbook instead of plasma-desktop00:56
ovidiu-florinI can just set that in a live session00:57
ovidiu-florinis the netbook necessary? isn't this enough?00:57
yofelnot quite, unless someone fixed the default settings it'll be a bit different00:57
ovidiu-florinso, if I don't have a netbook, I can't test this00:57
yofelbut I'm not sure on what we were regarding keeping that00:57
yofelwell, you can force your VM into a small screen mode00:58
ovidiu-florinis that a good enough test?00:58
yofelshould be (I think)00:58
ovidiu-florinRiddell: ^^?00:59
yofelI can test it later on my netbook here too00:59
ovidiu-florinah, ok00:59
BarkingFishMorning guys :)00:59
ovidiu-florinI'll try it and write the details in the comment00:59
BarkingFishQuick question - i am aware of the plasma-desktop thingy with it crashing constantly on login - do you know if there's been a fix released for that bug please?00:59
BarkingFishI'm sitting here on 393mb of updates, and I'm nervous about applying them in case I wind up locked out of plasma.  But - I don't want the pile to get much bigger...01:00
yofelBarkingFish: the bug # would help...01:01
BarkingFishthat's just it. You were the first one to mention it, and I can't find you in my scrollback :(01:02
BarkingFishYou had the bug number, and I can't find it on a straight text search through launchpad01:02
ovidiu-florinyofel: what's the resolution of a netbook?01:03
ovidiu-florinor should I go directly with 800x600?01:04
yofel1024x600 usually I think01:04
ovidiu-florinand the live session should start in netbook mode automatically on boot if the resolution is small?01:05
BarkingFishyeah - 1024 * 600 on a regular 10.1in, or 1080*720 on a hi-def netbook01:06
ovidiu-florinI'm testing with 800x600 right now, I'll with that after01:06
BarkingFishgotcha, yofel - i just found it in a text search here, right at the start of my scrollback from this channel :) bug #111736501:08
ubottubug 1117365 in Kubuntu PPA "plasma-desktop 4.10 crashes immediately on login" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/111736501:08
BarkingFishi just found ctrl+f in xchat :)01:09
BarkingFishand no, it doesn't look fixed. it's not even been commented on yet :(01:09
BarkingFishwell I have 4.10 as part of the updates I need to apply, so I'm gonna have to leave them alone.  I'm not gonna lock myself out of plasma :)01:10
ovidiu-florinok, I can't find it. How can I force VB to force a resolution on the virtual Machine?01:11
yofelhm, I don't think anyone has reproduced that one yet. 4.10 works fine on 3 PC's here01:12
ovidiu-florinI think that happened to my brother ^01:14
yofelouch :/01:14
ovidiu-florinwhile he was updating the battery died01:14
yofel...01:14
ovidiu-florinand when he rebooted on login plasma crashed01:14
yofelwell, that's hardly surprising then01:14
BarkingFishdid he finish the updates?01:15
BarkingFishyou can resume busted updates to fix them before you do anything else01:15
smartboyhwGood morning:)01:15
ovidiu-florinI fixed it by finishing the updates, installing kde-workspace (it wasn't installed) and deleteing ~/.kde01:15
BarkingFishmorning smartboyhw :)01:15
ovidiu-florinmy presumption is that kde-workspace got uninstalled to be updated, but the battery died just before it managed to do so...01:16
ovidiu-florinor something similar to that01:16
ovidiu-florincould this be that bug?01:17
ovidiu-florinor a similar casE?01:17
ovidiu-florinthis happened on a kubuntu 12.1001:17
BarkingFishovidiu-florin, no.  This is basically you update to 4.10 and then everytime you try to launch plasma-desktop on login, it crashes out.  It looks kinda qt related, but I am very raw in kde's codebase. I know little and guess even less.01:19
BarkingFishI wouldn't touch this with thermal underwear and 12 inch thick gloves on.01:19
ovidiu-florin:)01:19
ovidiu-florinok, I'll just test the installation, since I can't test the low resolution01:20
ovidiu-florinunless I change the host's resolution?01:21
ovidiu-florinnope, that doesn't work...01:22
ovidiu-florinhow do I shutdown in netbook mode?01:27
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, do you have a terminal? sudo poweroff :P01:31
ovidiu-florin:P01:31
ovidiu-florinor add the leave widget01:31
ovidiu-florinand click on it01:31

lordievaderGood morning :)10:04
philwyettHi all. Just test laoded the 12.04.2 images. The desktop image is loading the 3.2.0 kernel and not the 3.5.0 as it should and the alternate disk is failing loading kernel modules thus everything like network detection fails if you continue. Are these isue being addresed or should I start filing bugs against these?12:09

BluesKajHowdy all12:39
Riddellphilwyett: what makes you think it should be 3.5?12:41
Riddellsmartboyhw: happy new year12:41
smartboyhwRiddell, thx:)12:41
philwyettRiddell:  The 12.04.2 point release is supposed to be switching to the 3.5.0 kernel and updated mesa etc. LTS quantal stack. Or do Kubuntu not folow Ubuntu with this?12:42
Riddellphilwyett: we do yes so it might need a seed change12:43
Riddellphilwyett: I don't suppose you have a UEFI computer?12:43
philwyettRiddell: No.12:44
Riddellmm, I still don't know how to test that stuff12:45
Riddellphilwyett: ok seeds updated to use linux-generic-lts-quantal12:46
Riddellthanks for spotting that12:46
philwyettRiddell: No problem. I will test when next ISO images come available.12:47
lordievaderIs it correct that the release notes of 12.04.2 are not pointing to release notes but to news? Is this because it is not released yet?12:51
philwyettlordievader: Not seen release notes. Knew it is sheduled for release Thursday and then Riddell's cal for testing on the mailing list and work via QA site.12:56
lordievaderphilwyett: I ment in the test image. But if the release notes themselfs do not exist it isn't strange the link points to something else.12:57
philwyettlordievader: Not really a high issue on my todo at the minute for 12.04.2. Just installed the test Ubuntu image and while it does load the 3.5 kernel. It is not installing the mesa 9.0 etc. stil instaling mesa 8.0.4.13:00
lordievaderOf course it is not a big issue, just thought it would be good to mention it.13:01
philwyettlordievader: There will be some reason and Ok indeed to mention it. Not got a clue myself.13:02
=== fenris is now known as Guest11938
yofel_philwyett: where did it say that 12.04 was supposed to get mesa 0.9? The kernel did get a backport, but I can't see anything higher than mesa 8.0.4 for precise13:48

philwyettyofel: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack13:50
yofelphilwyett: thanks13:50
philwyettyofel: As I read it the quantal kernel is only to be supported with the rest of the stack (no mixing). So if quantal kernel is default, the the xorg and mesa should be quantal to at instal time.13:52
yofelsmartboyhw: do you have time to work on it? otherwise I'll do it13:52
smartboyhwyofel, you do it.... I have Android source building here.13:52

yofelRiddell: we might want to put that on the download page ^13:56
yofelwhich would need an additional link to old-releases.ubuntu.com then13:57
Riddellmm yes14:02
yofelphilwyett: you don't by chance know the full package list for the quantal backport stack14:02
yofel?14:02
RiddellI wonder what else needs changed in the seed14:02
yofelas I also see xserver-xorg-core-lts-quantal14:02
yofelmesa-common-dev-lts-quantal14:02
yofel(now I'm out of ideas what to look for)14:03
RiddellI don't see those in the ubuntu.precise seeds14:03

yofelsmartboyhw: well, that's pretty much the base hardware support stack14:03
yofel(a lot indeed)14:03
smartboyhwx11-xserver-utils-lts-quantal14:03
smartboyhwxserver-xorg-video-modesetting-lts-quantal14:03

smartboyhw(LOL)14:04
yofelthis is what aptitude finds: http://paste.kde.org/66872014:04
yofelwe probably only need half a dozen of those though14:05
smartboyhwyofel, we can compare it to our current seed:)14:05
yofeltrue14:06
shadeslayeror ... you know ... check the ubuntu seed14:06
philwyettyofel: Not sure the complete list. The stack is at min kernel, xorg and mesa. Kernel is known. Maybe bryce can list his side?14:07
smartboyhwNo, check the ISOs' manifest14:07
yofelseed should be smaller than manifest14:08

ovidiu-florinHello world, I just finished annother test on the new iso, and I found out that there was a new built allready, so the results I provided were useless. How can I find out when a new built is released, so that I don't do all these tests for nothing?15:03
ovidiu-florinI'm reffering to the 12.04.2 build15:04
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, subscribe to it through ISO tracker15:05
smartboyhwIn ISO Tracker click on the testcases for Kubuntu15:05
smartboyhw'Precise 12.04.2' -> 'Kubuntu Desktop amd64'15:06
smartboyhwTick all the testcases, and click 'Subscribe' under 'Actions'15:06
smartboyhwthen you will receive the emails for newest builds15:06
shadeslayerovidiu-florin: yeah, kind of sucks when that happens15:09
shadeslayerbut something went unnoticed and most of the kernel/X bits are apparently outdated15:10
ovidiu-florinbut not all tests were performed15:11
shadeslayerhm?15:11
ovidiu-florinwhy was a new built created if not all tests were performed?15:11
shadeslayerbecause stuff was outdated ?15:11
ovidiu-florinlook: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/254/builds/37267/testcases15:11
shadeslayerit doesn't matter if the tests were not performed15:11
ovidiu-florinwhy?15:12
shadeslayerbecause stuff was outdated15:12
shadeslayerstuff = X and kernel bits from what I can tell from the log15:12
ovidiu-florinwhere's the ISO tracker?15:13
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, dumb iso.qa.ubuntu.com15:14
ovidiu-florinI was there.. 15:16

ovidiu-florinwhat's precise daily?15:17
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, don't care for it now please:P15:20
ovidiu-florinok...15:20
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, it is normally for daily image testing. Between 12.04.1 and 12.04.2 (and 12.04.2 and 12.04.3) the dailies are kept being built and people can submit results of testing of these dailies (no one would normally thougu)15:21
ovidiu-florinbecouse they are submitted two often?15:22
smartboyhwovidiu-florin, yes15:24
smartboyhwAnd probably people care more about the raring images:P15:24
ovidiu-florinallways for the new version15:25

RiddellQuintasan: I installed it fine on the nexus but touch doesn't work on qml23:00
Riddellwhich is a bit of a limitation23:00
philwyettRiddell yofel: The update is more than just mesa of course. It's xorg, drm, wayland and many others by what can be seen. But see bug 1121179 as todays ubuntu ISO is installing the 3.5 kernel but none of the other packages.23:01
ubottubug 1121179 in mesa (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu 12.04.2 alternate AMD 64 ISO image Feb 10 installing mesa 8.0.4 not 9.0.0 - LTS quantal" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/112117923:01
yofelwell. That would be a bug in the seed though. not mesa23:02
Riddellyeah suggests there's something else to do done in the seeds I didn't see23:03
RiddellI'll look tomorrow unless someone else gets there first23:03
yofelphilwyett: poke around in #ubuntu-quality to make sure someone noticed23:03
philwyettI will tomorow. Also the page https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack section 9 sub 1. Heper packages for upgrades. I'd love to know what they are. ;-)23:04
philwyetts/Heper/Helper23:04
philwyettyofel: Ok, asked in #ubuntu-quality. Saw the time and I have some before I go to bed. :-)23:10
yofelthanks, it would be good to get this cleared up as it seems like most main and flavour seeds only ship the new kernel (if anything new at all)23:22
philwyettSomethig you may want to read that I have found https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-r-xorg-lts-updates23:22
yofellot's still TODO there considering we're 3 days away from 12.04.2...23:24
philwyettYes. I have emailed Canonical regarding this and as you say how close we are to release day and not much time to QA the ISO images once al seems to be fixed.23:25
