holstein | smeag0l: yes.. just ask :) | 00:35 |
---|---|---|
smeag0l | i got a slave hard disk dunno how to mount it ? | 00:42 |
holstein | !mount | 00:43 |
ubot2 | mount is used to attach devices to directories. See also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount | 00:43 |
holstein | other than that, you usually just plug drives in, and find them in the file manager | 00:43 |
smeag0l | thx | 00:43 |
holstein | smeag0l: you can elaborate about what "slave hard disk" means | 00:43 |
holstein | usb.. internal extra hard drive.. etc | 00:43 |
smeag0l | internal | 00:44 |
smeag0l | extra hard disk | 00:44 |
holstein | usually, i just add them to fstab | 00:45 |
holstein | !fstab | 00:45 |
ubot2 | The /etc/fstab file indicates how drive partitions are to be used or otherwise integrated into the file system. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html and !Partitions | 00:45 |
holstein | depends on what you want to do with it, and what you want the format to be | 00:45 |
holstein | i usually add them to fstab by uuid, and chown the directory im mounting it to | 00:46 |
smeag0l | etx4 backup | 00:46 |
smeag0l | ext4 backup | 00:46 |
smeag0l | it s late | 00:47 |
holstein | smeag0l: sure.. whatever you want to do | 00:47 |
holstein | smeag0l: mine were ext2 or ext4 | 00:47 |
holstein | i added them to fstab, and pointed them to a directory that i chowned | 00:47 |
holstein | looks a lot like this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingANewHardDrive | 00:48 |
smeag0l | i used to be fine with sudo 744 /dev/sdb1 /mnt/media sudo -r /dev/sdb1 /mnt/media but that don't work anymore | 00:48 |
smeag0l | *-R | 00:48 |
holstein | smeag0l: you can let us know what doesnt work | 00:49 |
smeag0l | i will go through the link you provided | 00:50 |
smeag0l | in the morning | 00:50 |
smeag0l | when i'm fress | 00:50 |
holstein | smeag0l: enjoy! | 00:51 |
smeag0l | i will i plan to only use it for linux | 00:52 |
bookpage | What happens when I have a script which I orphan to init and then close my tty? | 00:53 |

Noctis_ | I installed Ubuntu as a second OS and now I cannot reach Win7. This was probably caused by the fact that while installing I first formated the partition which contained Win XP (I had Win Xp and & in dualboot before installing Ubuntu, it was installed first and XP - now Ubuntu partition is boot partition). and its bootloader. Most of the grub guides are outdated, the new ones advice using grub customiser, which I installed | 14:07 |
Noctis_ | password and does nothing afterwards | 14:07 |
Noctis_ | Can somebody advise? | 14:08 |
