mishehugreets folks.  I have an atom n330 dual core ION, and though it's terribly underpowered, I can play some files well and others can't seem to play at all viewably.04:04
mishehufor example, one matroska that I have has this for a video stream:  Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1280x720, SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default) , and this file plays perfectly well04:05
mishehuthe other file, Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (also matroska), plays terribly.  I notice that if I try to play this with vlc, I get the same performance, even if I try to adjust the thread settings in the ffmpeg/libavc decoder.  It only ever maxes out one cpu, and never uses the other cpu.04:06
mishehudoes anybody have any suggestions as to what I may be able to do (besides replacing the hardware) to be able to play this second file?04:07
dekarlmishehu: if you max out a CPU then something is going wrong. the decoding should be done on the GPU and not tax the CPU that much.04:45
dekarlI'd verify if the hardware decoding is used or not first04:46
mishehudekarl: well the nvidia drivers are installed, and though it's an ION does that mean that the h264 is done on the nvidia card itself?06:19
mishehuor was it only a subset of the processing?06:19
mishehuI tried adjusting the frame buffer in the bios so that it had 512 mb instead of 64 mb (the prior setting), yet mythfrontend and vlc still end up using 100% of one of the cores06:37
dekarlhmm, I can look at my ION06:39
dekarlwhat decoding profile have you selected in the frontend setup? Should be VDPAU slim/normal/high06:40
mishehuremind me please what setup menu those options are under06:41
mishehuthat under playback profiles?06:44
mishehulooks like that was it06:48
mishehuI set vdpau to highest, and the cpu's only at 17%06:49
mishehuthanks for the help dekarl06:49
dekarlglad that it was so easy (sorry I'm a bit slow, I have baby duty this morning :)06:51
mishehueh it's ok06:55
mishehuI reloaded that machine a few times06:55
mishehuthat's why I missed setting it for vdpau in teh first place06:55
mishehuso it does about 17% cpu for 720p h264, and 6-7% for standard dvd06:56
mishehumuch much better06:56
dekarlsounds about right, too06:57
mishehunight and day06:58
mishehuI was getting quite irritated06:58
mishehunow it works :-)06:58

James2[14:59:55] <James2> is that likely to happen if the dish alignment was slghtly out15:12
James2[15:00:16] <James2> but i dont understand why i can get one of its muxes but not another, surely if it can see the satelite, it can see it right?15:12

James2any reason i cant run the mythtv-setup cli using ssh?21:55
rhpot1991James2: it requires x22:06
rhpot1991it isn't cli22:06
rhpot1991you might be able to ssh -X it22:07
rhpot1991probably easier to just vnc though22:07
James2it is, your wrapper script just doesnt allow it due to its use of xterm22:07
James2what i expected was the output from22:07
James2mythtv-setup.real which i didnt know youd renamed and wrapped22:07
James2mythtv-setup.real --help  correctly returns its usage22:08
