bobweaverQt Jambi and pyslide ect00:00
comjfI know python pretty well, I can wrap python in QML?00:02
bobweaverlike in a Mousearea to call it00:02
bobweaverI am not good at py at all clueless :_)00:02
comjfhaha00:03
bobweavercomjf,  there is this . http://qt-project.org/wiki/PySide   But like I said I am clueless about py00:05
comjfi'll stick to C++, that seems the default lang00:06
comjfand I love to learn00:06
mhall119comjf: QML is pretty easy00:07
mhall119if you know python, you shouldn't have any trouble learning it00:07
comjfmhall119: Awesome. I just wish there was more documentation on the field types00:07
mhall119comjf: me too, we're working on improving out docs00:08
mhall119our docs00:08
comjfmhall119: Like TextField, does it have an 'onhover' or 'onclick' signal00:08
comjfmhall119: where can I see the source directly (sorry I'm a complete newb when it comes to this process)00:09
bobweaverhover over item and press f100:09
bobweaverhold ctrl then click on things to go to parents00:09
comjfNo documentation available.00:09
comjfis where it brings me00:09
bobweaverqtcreator ^^00:09
bobweaverTextField Must be Ubuntu-SDK ?00:11
comjfyes00:13
mhall119comjf: doesn't look like it: http://developer.ubuntu.com/api/ubuntu-12.10/qml/mobile/qml-ubuntu-components0-textfield.html00:13
mhall119comjf: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-ui-toolkit has the code00:13
comjfmhall119: I was just wondering because the design guidelines talk about using TextFields with the label being inside the field as the initial value.. I just want to clear it upon getting focus00:14
mhall119comjf: looks like you should use placeholderText: http://developer.ubuntu.com/api/ubuntu-12.10/qml/mobile/qml-ubuntu-components0-textfield.html#placeholderText-prop00:15
mhall119then the TextField will probably clear it for you00:15
comjfah, makes sense00:16
comjfthanks mate00:16
comjfso I generated all my wsdl client c++ classes (finally)... now I need to google how to make a QML wrapper class right?00:30
=== jelatta_away is now known as jelatta
comjfI'm having difficulty figuring out this wsdl thing with c++, since I ready have the client working in java, is there a way to wrap a javaclass into QML?01:36
comjfor is java not a supported langauge to use01:37

xsachai was in chat the whole time, so i can scroll up and find log. thanks02:32

Mirvbobweaver (and others): Qt4 and Qt5 can fully be co-installed. if you have problems, something has not been properly updated from the qt5-proper - it has a new version of both Qt4 and Qt505:27
Mirv(I have Qt4 and Qt5 developmen tools right now here)05:28
Mirvthe selection of which one - 4 or 5 - is available in default path for qmake, uic, rcc, etc. depends on whether qt5-default or qt4-default is installed. alternatively, see man qtchooser for more possibilities of configuring qtchooser.05:29

bobweaverMirv,  when I go to install anything qt5 from the proper ppa it removes qt4viewer and also other things making it so when I make the choice of qt4 toolkit It says there is no viewer installed so I have to re0install it. It is something in the packaging of qt-ubuntu-components11:13

bobweaverkinda stuck at a couple of points because I have no clue how the keyboard is going to work and also no idea about how moving things off the screen will work either11:48
Mirvbobweaver: so, you need to apt-get upgrade before trying to install qt5 stuff, or alternatively install qt4-qmlviewer after installing qt5 - the qt4 version in the PPA does not conflict with Qt511:50
bobweaveryeah that is what I did Mirv11:50
bobweaverI ended up downloading qt5.0.1 1 day before you packaged11:51
Mirvok then. and the guides suggest installing ubuntu-sdk, which installs qtchooser which guides qt4 developer tools to be upgraded11:51
bobweaverso I am using that just compiled the qml plugin11:51
Mirvah right, 12.04, that's a different story11:51
bobweaveryeah but it could not beacause of dependenceys11:52
bobweaverlet me try to find pastie of that11:52
Mirvlike said on the qt5-proper front page, there is not yet qt4/qt5 devtools co-existing there, since there is no Qt4 version yet patched for 12.04 to use qtchooser11:52

bobweavertehcrs,  I have no clue But I do know this . qt works on a lot of different devices. What the backend of the phone is using(this is what I have no clue about) could be tailored for a device.  meaning not sure till we get the code12:01

bobweaveror anyone ^^12:09
bobweaverI will ask on qt channel also12:10
bzoltan1bobweaver:  I have been reading the logs from yesterday. I would suggest to you too that the best results you can get with the Ubuntu Phone SDK and UI Toolkit if you start with a clean system. Remove  all depricated qt5 packages and builds and PPAs, make a full apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade and just follow the instructions  http://askubuntu.com/questions/254800/how-can-i-update-the-ubuntu-sdk-preview-from-the-qt-5-beta-ppa-to-the12:21
bobweaverHi bzoltan1  I would but everything seems to be working fine now though after I compiled it all12:24
bzoltan1bobweaver: Sure, you are free to compile all, but keep in mind that with homebrew Qt libs you are on your own. It is hard if not impossible to support custom built development environment. If I were you I would just install the stock packages from the qt5-proper PPA and purge all other Qt5 stuff. We all use those packages, they are fine.12:26
bobweaverbzoltan1,  I guess that I am just use to compiling stuff for things to work. Like I had to on qt4 for alot of libs. That said. I love the fact that you all are packing this all up. It is nice12:26
tehcrsi will probably have to root the phone, right?12:26
bobweaverbzoltan1,  I can do that with out removing any of my qt4 stuff ?12:27
bobweaverbzoltan1,  main concerns are well I will post brb12:27
bobweaver/usr/lib/qt4/imports$ ls12:27
bobweaverbamf  Box2D  dee  Dee.3  gconf  QConf  Qt  QtDesktop  QtMobility  QtMultimediaKit  QtWebKit  Tiled  Unity2d  uTouch12:27
bzoltan1bobweaver: I do not know about your Qt4 stuff... if you use packages from Ubuntu archives than you might need to upgrade few of them. But as it was earlier told ... Qt5 can coexist with Qt412:28
bobweaverbzoltan1,  you mean like making choice on which toolkit one wants to use correct ?12:29
bobweaverbzoltan1,  sorry I have only been programming for a little over a year12:29
bzoltan1bobweaver: Obviously if you alter your Ubuntu and install hombrew stuff to the system instead of keeping them nicely in a sendbox directory (in your home or in the /opt) than the outcome is unpredictable ...12:29
bobweaver2 1/2 years ago I did not know what linux was12:30
bobweaverwell maybe 3 years now12:30
bobweaverwell I knew what it was when I used slax like 12 years ago on a friends computer but that was all I knew that there was slax12:31
bobweaverso I guess what I am saying is I am a n00b :)12:31
bzoltan1bobweaver: Your milage is not really relevant here. The key is that most of the Ubuntu users, even the experts do not like to alter their system. You want to keep your private stuff away from the  system.12:31
bobweaverbzoltan1,  yeah I was thinking that but I wanted to make a game (my 1st one) real bad and read up on qml (because that is all I know) and learned about box2d and tiled both of which are not in Ubuntu Repo12:34
bobweaverin fact I could not find ppa anywhere for it12:34
bobweaverso I guess that said I would love to upgrade box2d to the qt5 version and also tiled dee Qconf gconf utouch12:36
bobweaveroh and bamf12:36
bobweaverUntil I can  do that I can not move up past 12.04  because I would love my UI for TV and that would be horrible12:37

bobweaveresp Qt.loacation how to make maps with out it ? well fast maps that is12:40
bobweaveror all these would be awesome http://qt-project.org/wiki/Qt-Add-ons-Modules12:41
bzoltanbobweaver:  It is up to you. The Qt5 port of the  box2d you better ask from the maintainers. We as Ubuntu will not port it in the near future.12:50
bobweaverYeah that is what I figured. I guess what is the most imporant thing is that I have the things that I need to learn12:51
bobweaverLike I would like to learn shaders better and also qt3d stuff12:52
bzoltanbobweaver:  and to learn I would suggest you to use stock packages and focus on the subject... you will waste much less time on building your on development environment and you will get much better support from the community12:53
bobweaverlike the qt3d car demo But I can not even get that to run :(12:53
bobweaverbzoltan,  that is a good point that I did not think about all that much.12:53
bzoltan bobweaver:  Also I would go with the simpler QML demos and examples. Check out the basic animations and simpler UI components. Create simple applications and learn how this whole thing works. Much less frustrating :)12:55
bobweaverbzoltan,  I know all about states and transtions and behavior on X {NumberAnimation{}}12:56
bobweaverbzoltan,  you have a virtual machine with 12.04 ?12:56
bobweaverIf you do you can look at my work https://launchpad.net/~u2t/+archive/bleedingedge   that ppa is only for 12.04 though12:57
bobweaverbecuase of libunity and NUX and dee and bamf ect12:57
bzoltanbobweaver:  No, I am on 12.10 and soon to upgrade to Raring12:58
bobweaverit is nothing but unity-2d but with a ton of extra stuff like switching formfactors or changing launcher position, or anything in dconf that is that lives on the places that the engine listens12:59
bobweaverhttp://bazaar.launchpad.net/~josephjamesmills/u2t/dailybuilds/view/head:/config.h.in13:00
bobweaveryou can see the bus's that it listens to in that file13:00
bobweaverI am sure that the phone also works kinda like this. Well I am not sure. But can not wait to find out13:01
bobweaverlike     engine->rootContext()->setContextProperty("unity2dConfiguration", &unity2dConfiguration());13:02
bobweaverexposing Qconf13:02
bobweaverbut things That I did write on top of the TV where re-wote the launcher so that it can read lens(simplelauncher) made it so that there are many different render views or dash , added previews, added tvguide via mythtv, added music hinting, added dconf settings in the dash , re-wrote almost the whole TV interface/formfactor (filters rendering type of text ect)13:07
bobweaverMy idea is once the phone goes public I will take that interface and take everything that I have and tie into one. then take all my qml code and add it to the Ubuntu SDK Kit13:08
bobweaverso that there will be import Ubuntu.Compents.TV 0.113:08

bobweaverso you can make your tiles say 48 X 48  then use java script to cut them up23:09
bobweaverand when tiles (QML plugin) sees it it tells Box2d to add collision points and what not walls and stuff you know23:09

bobweaveranything that qt/qml can run on it can too. I would say that you can also package the whole libs in your game if you need to23:15
Akiva-Thinkpadie, one developed by ubuntu, therefore, controlling it better to suit their needs23:15
bobweaverI was just saying that you can if need be23:15
Akiva-Thinkpadokay23:15

bobweaverwhen you press on time it changs from 24 hor to 12 and same with temp but C and F23:26

Akiva-ThinkpadUbuntu should come out with an official flashlight app, and forbid their market from producing any more :P23:27
bobweaverlol23:27
dmdoh yeah, no one has made one of those yet23:27
ajalkaneAgreed there. I'm always for forbidding stuff23:27

Akiva-Thinkpadajalkane: ha ha23:27
bobweaveryeah23:27
bobweaverQtMultimedia 5.0 in qt523:27
dmdbobweaver: you should make the first flash light and fart apps23:28
bobweaverlol23:28
Akiva-ThinkpadI forbid the ubuntu phone from using APK's23:28
dmdotherwise the apple fanboys will never take ubuntu phone seriously23:28
Akiva-ThinkpadRubbish23:28
Akiva-Thinkpaddmd:  ha23:28
Akiva-ThinkpadWhat we need, is to copy apple, and make legions of useless trial ware23:28
Akiva-Thinkpadthat is specifically designed to be annoying.23:29
* bobweaver needs to make app to sell so that he can by his *** a panda board for my TV 23:29
Akiva-ThinkpadI actually really admire the idea that anyone can pay any price, as long as it is above 023:29
dmdI imagine the most profitable plan would be to do some on contract app dev23:30
bobweaver+123:30
dmdand nothing says expert like "23:30
dmd"first flashlight app maker"23:31
dmd"23:31

Akiva-Thinkpadone thing I wonder23:32
bobweaverwhat do you think would have to turn on camara half way ?23:32
Akiva-Thinkpadis if we are using docking23:32
Akiva-Thinkpadwill our apps have to scale?23:32
dmdqml should handle most of that23:32
Akiva-ThinkpadCan I run my flashlight app when I dock it to the pc?23:32
bobweaverAkiva-Thinkpad,  yeah that is why you make sure that when coding you do math ;)23:33
bobweaverlike parent.width / 12.234123:33
Akiva-Thinkpaddmd: bobweaver: Well they have already seemed to set standards with pixel density23:33
Akiva-ThinkpadI was thinking perhaps it is a binary switch23:33
Akiva-ThinkpadObviously freeciv mobile should be different than freeciv docked23:33
bobweaverthat was a HUGE mistake that I made when I first started hacking at Ubuntu TV I did not do that and had to re-write a bunch of stuff23:34
Akiva-Thinkpadbobweaver: So the tip is... to do what?23:34
bobweaveruse math23:34
bobweaveror make app then make a simple page that scales things.23:35
Akiva-ThinkpadI was thinking of spitting on it, but okay23:35
Akiva-Thinkpador shouting at it23:35
bobweaverlol23:35
Akiva-ThinkpadDo you think Scale and Expo plugins would do well on ubuntu phone?23:37
Akiva-ThinkpadExpo I could imagine23:37
bobweaverI dont know what that is sorry23:39
bobweaverdmd,  I have a question that you might be able to give me good feed back on also maybe mhall119  If you look atthis video you can see how things it is kinda going to look. I am at the part where I am "hanging the Icons"  do you think that that the pictures should go left and right based on how strong the wind is blowing for query Item ?23:45
bobweaverhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfrm117Ukr0        TIME:  23:00  give or take a minute23:45

bobweaverI wish I knew how the phone handles movement then I could do some damage like games and stuff23:51
bobweaverlike paddle ball23:51
bobweaveror like that game where you have tomove the ball in the maze but can not let it drop in holes23:53
dmdthose are horible23:53
dmdbut23:53
dmdif you look at some of the puzzle games on android like 7x7 those are fun and addicting23:54
=== chriadam|away is now known as chriadam

bobweaverlol23:55
bobweaveror what is that game with the string attached to a tenis ball  and you toss the ball up to try to land in cup23:56
bobweaveralso bowling would be cool to make when we all get to see the stuff that we will have. It is going to be fun. Turn the ting into a wii like remote23:57
* bobweaver shuts up and goes back to qmling 23:58
