[22:35] hello.. i'm pretty interested in making a couple of small apps for ubuntu phone and trying to decide what to put my energy into learning. For phone dev, is their much difference between using python versus c++ via qt5 etc.? [22:39] are the bindings between qml and python very good? I'd prefer to use python [22:39] only javascript and c++ are supported for now [22:40] python is not [22:40] ah ok [22:41] are there performance issues using js instead of c++? [22:41] QML uses EcmaScript/JavaScript AFAIK [22:42] I guess the C++ is more for the backend stuff then? [22:42] * JanC might be totally wrong ;) [22:44] not purely, but it is encouraged to use javascript [22:44] integrates much better too [22:45] i haven't used qt or anything before.. but is qml a markup for qt... which is a UI framework for C++ apps. and you can use js in qml for logic stuff... ubuntu has its own set of components you can plugin to qt/qml.. is this about the size of it? [22:45] trying to get my head around phone dev [22:46] GuidoPallemans: you are also from Belgium, right? ☺ [22:47] yup [22:47] there is also #ubuntu-be & our mailing list etc. ;-) [22:47] oh nice [22:48] where do i subscribe to the mailing list? [22:48] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be [22:48] thanks! [22:49] it's not always very active, but still should give you some idea about what activities we are planning [22:49] (for support we use -nl/-fr/-de channels & lists & forums)
