jeffrey1Issue: When plugged in, battery will charge for a second, then stop charging for a few, and cycle like that indefinitely07:25
jeffrey1Anybody? This is super frustrating07:32
moetunestried checking dmesg in a terminal?07:33
moetunesjeffrey1:     ^^07:33
jeffrey1ok just did it07:33
jeffrey1which part do you want to see?07:33
moetunestry it a couple of times as the battery cycles07:34
moetunessee if something keeps being mentioned07:34
jeffrey1there's a bunch of this kind of thing:07:34
jeffrey1init: anacron main process (15905) killed by TERM signal07:35
moetunesI don't think anancron has anything to do with the battery07:36
jeffrey1ther's more of those every time i run dmesg07:36
jeffrey1and the numbers rise07:37
jeffrey1how about this:07:37
jeffrey1ACPI: Cannot transition to non-D0 state from D307:38
jeffrey1ata_piix 0000:00:1f.1: power state changed by ACPI to D3hot07:38
moetunesthose acpi errors seem relevant07:39
jeffrey1those were way earlier07:39
jeffrey1the recent events are all anacron07:39
koegsanacron is stopped if you are running on battery, this is not the cause07:41
moetunesis the after coming out of suspend or are you using bumblebee for dual graphics?07:41
moetunesjust going through google returns here07:41
jeffrey1This is from a cold boot, and also from suspend. If I suspend the battery charges fine. If the laptop is off it charges fine.07:43
jeffrey1When I come out of suspend the intermittent thing resumes07:43
jeffrey1So every few seconds I am running on battery, then ac power, then battery, then ac. While plugged in.07:44
moetunesbut the acpi lines in dmesg aren't happening when that happens?07:44
jeffrey1Yeah they are07:46
jeffrey1oh sorry no07:46
jeffrey1all that is happening is the init: anacron main process (26767) killed by TERM signal07:46
moetunesok. anacron is being stopped each time the laptop goes onto battery - that's why that keeps appearing07:50
moetunesdo you have another os you can boot into to see if it happens there or it's a xubuntu issue07:51
moetunes?07:51
moetunesmight be faulty hardware07:52
jeffrey1I know it never happened on windows, don't think it was happening in lubuntu. I will go find my lubuntu usb07:52
jeffrey1can't find it, but I'm confident it's not a hardware issue07:58
jeffrey1dmesg07:58
moetunestail -f /var/log/kernel.log    might be easier to monitor07:59
jeffrey1that gives a bunch of wlan0 statements08:04
moetunescan you run   acpi -V08:08
moetunes?08:08
jeffrey1yeah one second08:22
jeffrey1the program acpi is currently not installed08:23
moetunesjeffrey1:  if it's not a hardware issue I don't know what'll be09:04
jeffrey1is that weird that i don't have acpi installed?09:05
moetunesnot really09:14
bartzyHow do I remove the annoying "system restart required" message after I installed a new kernel via apt-get ?!09:15
bartzythis is so annoying - I KNOW I need to reboot in order to use the new kernel. I don't need to be reminded of it all the time09:16
laitebartzy: you can kill update-notifier09:17
bartzylaite: And that kills only that notifier , or other notify messages like music playing and other stuff ?09:17
laitethat kills the program that tells you (graphically) about available updates (and restart requirements) in taskbar09:18
bartzyyes, but is it responsible only for notifying me about that - and not about other stuff ?09:18
bartzylaite: Also - there is no configuration to avoid the presentation of this message in the first place ?09:19
laitebartzy: it's also responsible for telling 'you have new updates' to you09:19
laiteI don't think there's a separate setting for that :/09:19
bartzyok, thanks :)09:20

GridCube:D12:51
xubuntu521Hi all. I'd like to install Xubuntu 12.04 on a Macbook 2,1 and I couldn't find a download link which is for mac (64-Bit). On this post (http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/ubuntu-12-04-lts-auf-macbook-white-2-1-install/#post-4505022) however was mentioned such a version. Where could I find it? Or is there no anymore? Thx.12:53
xubuntu240how can i make a custom live-usb with my packages and presettings?12:54
GridCube!customlivecd12:55
ubottuInterested in remastering the Ubuntu !LiveCD or !Alternate installer? See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallCDCustomization - Or use tools such as http://uck.sourceforge.net/ or http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/DRU_Disc_Remastering_Utility12:55
GridCubexubuntu521, there is no "mac" specific iso, just standard 64bit iso, use that one12:56
xubuntu240i have tried to use remastersys tool, but it didn't work with full-encrypted partition :(12:58
xubuntu521GridCube, but with this version I get "1. 2. select cd-rom boot type .." and I cannot insert any letter or number. USB-Keyboard doesn't help too. How ti solve this one?12:58
GridCubeoh, my mistake xubuntu521 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/quantal/release/12:58
xubuntu521ti == do, sorry12:59
GridCubexubuntu521, there i meant that there is no powerpc iso for xubuntu, apparently mainbuntu does have one, you can always use that one and install xubuntu-desktop later13:00
GridCubethere are lubuntu ones too http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/quantal/release/13:01
xubuntu521GridCube, your link is for servers. OK, Lubuntu is running, so I have to check out how to change the desktop-version.13:01
GridCubexubuntu240, if its the server just do sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop and vuala!13:02
GridCubenext time you log in you just choose a xubuntu sesion instead of a lubuntu session :313:03
xubuntu521Will the lubuntu-desk remain on the system? My knowledge is poor in that case ;-)13:04
GridCubeyes13:04
GridCubeit will remain there13:04
GridCubeyou can choose to log in to a lubuntu session later13:04
xubuntu240i need to make my own custom-live-usb with my packages and presettings. remastersys able to do this, but it doesn't work with encrypted-partitions :(13:07
xubuntu521GridCube, thx for the fast support. Because Lubuntu is always running, I will install the Xubuntu-desk too and yeah :-) Is it correct that it only needs some more space on the disk, not RAM?13:07
xubuntu521And last question GridCube, will I get XFCE 4.10 or which version?13:10
GridCubexubuntu521, what version of lubuntu are you running? 12.10?13:11
GridCubeyou dont need more ram to run any ubuntu. it will just be slower or faster on each desktop, its not like you are virtualizing a service or anything, you will just run other programs instead of the lubuntu ones, like other panels and so on, so there is no extra load to ram, just a change13:12
xubuntu52112.04 because of the longterm-support13:12
GridCubethen you will hace xfce 4.813:14
GridCubeyou can add a ppa for xfce 4.10. but you will loose support13:14
xubuntu521is 4.10 in 12.10 available, supported? Then I have to update lubuntu to 12.10?13:16
GridCubeif you need 4.10 and you need support then yes, thats the best option you have :)13:16
GridCubei would have to note that i did had 4.10 on 12.04 for like a year and it worked perfectly fine, but i had no support here for it XD13:17
xubuntu521A BIG THX to GridCube.  This way is very smart to solve problems and fast. Very last question: What's your oppinion: Which advantages have xubuntu12.04 with xfce 4.10 against 12.10 with 4.10?13:20
GridCubexfce 4.10 has more uptodate every day programs, like thunar and what not, that work pretty fast, but at the same time you loose some compatibilty with old indicators plugin... so you add and take some, im using 4.8 in this computer now and i dont see any problems with it13:24
xubuntu521Thx again. Have a nice day. Cheers13:25
GridCube:)13:26
e1nh4nd3rSo I have a question about displays on Xubuntu.  I've got an EliteBook 8570p on a docking station /w two additional displays connected up, and I had spanning across all three of my displays working.  I went and upgraded to the latest kernel with apt-get update && apt-get upgrade yesterday, and now my laptop display is flickering and not displaying anything useful.14:05
e1nh4nd3rAny thoughts on where I should start troubleshooting?  I looked in dmesg and syslog and didn't see any errors relating to displays or display drivers.14:06
e1nh4nd3rI even rolled-back to the previous kernel version and didn't see any improvement.14:09
GridCubemmm thats weird, try reinstalling your video drivers?14:09
e1nh4nd3rI didn't have any video drivers installed, just whatever xubuntu installed on its own.14:10
GridCubemmhm14:12
e1nh4nd3rI mean, should I try installing AMD's drivers since I have a radeon in this laptop?14:12
GridCubesure, you can do that, but first check if you have a xorg.conf file, if you do you can rename it and restart the xservers and see if the screens defautl again to a working state14:13
e1nh4nd3rWell, my 2 other displays besides the laptop screen work fine14:14
e1nh4nd3rI'm talking to you on it right now as a matter of fact14:14
GridCubehave you tried using the fn key to cycle the setting?14:14
e1nh4nd3r?14:15
e1nh4nd3rOh, to cycle whether the screen is active or not?14:15
e1nh4nd3rI can enable/disable it via ArandR and System > Displays14:15
GridCubeit has more settings if i dont remember wrong, using the fn-(monitorkey)14:17
GridCubewell i dont really know sorryy14:17
