MindfreaKI got a problem with my xubuntu , i installed the 12.04 LTS . I got an nvidia geforce 540m gt . Everything works like a charm but there is no opengl00:15
MindfreaKAdditional drivers says there are none to install00:15
MindfreaKnvidia xserver settings says im not using nvida x driver00:16
MindfreaKi then changed the xconf but it just broke by changing my screen resolution to 600x600 or something like that00:16
MindfreaKthe edited xconf was made by nvidia-xconfig command00:17
MindfreaKso now does sb know any solution ?00:17

Cheri703fun discovery: if you put in the xubuntu live usb, it gives an option to upgrade from ubuntu 12.04 to xubuntu 12.10. I chose that. It erased my quassel logs and who knows what else, as well as failing to reinstall software I had. quite annoyed. Did not choose to overwrite, chose to upgrade, and it ate my data02:03
Cheri703and yes I know I *should* have backed up, but....when upgrading, one expects it to leave data in place and not completely wipe the partition02:03
Cheri703so >1 year of logs and various things I'm sure I'll discover later are now gone. Luckily the majority of my stuff was on the external hard drive. Apparently it only kept my home folder intact, everything else it wiped. I'm going to suggest that quassel rethink its storage location...02:05
Unit193Where does it have them now?02:07
Cheri703/var/lib/quassel/ some sqlite file02:07
Cheri703and apparently that gets completely wiped during an upgrade through the liveusb02:07
Cheri703ok screw it, it's being weird and I can't even open up the samba configuration, I'm just going to do a full wipe and reinstall >_< not what I had planned for the evening02:16
Cheri703any way to remotely monitor the installation?02:16
Cheri703so I don't have to sit in the other room while it runs?02:16
Unit193I do the ssh in, screen, and do-release-upgrade, but it appears that's not recommended. :P02:16
Cheri703it'll be from liveUSB02:16
Unit193You should technically be able to drop to a TTY, install x11vnc and use that, not done this though.02:18
Cheri703hmm...ok02:18
Cheri703I'll try it, thanks02:18
Cheri703I just learned how to use the x11vnc to remote in before login tonight :)02:18
Cheri703I'll be off quassel for a while, because that's my server :s I'll get on webchat if I need to02:18
bullgard4I have got the directory /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.32/Documentation/. How to obtain Documentation  for the 3.2.0 kernel?06:21
krytarikbullgard4, do you have that kernel installed then?06:27
Unit193bullgard4: What are you trying to get exactly?06:33
Unit193!info linux-doc06:34
ubottulinux-doc (source: linux): Linux kernel specific documentation for version 3.5.0. In component main, is optional. Version 3.5.0-25.39 (quantal), package size 8187 kB, installed size 26292 kB06:34
bullgard4krytarik: Yes sir. And now please answer my question.07:15
ZelouilleSuperLag: ok, sometimes the problem is simpler that it seems. I was wrong, sorry.07:16
krytarikbullgard4, if you want to find the documentation under a similar path, you'll obviously have to install that kernel's sources too.07:17
bullgard4krytarik: In Xubuntu installation goes via DEB program packages.. What DEB program package do you speak about?07:19
krytarikbullgard4, what Ubuntu version are you using then?07:23
bullgard4krytarik: Linux 3.2.0-37-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Jan 24 201307:24
bullgard4i686 GNU/Linux07:24
krytarikWell, that helps too - it's the package "linux-headers-3.2.0-37-generic" then.07:25
bullgard4krytarik: No, it is not that package. It's the the package linux-source-3.2.0 which I found out in the mean time. And this package is installed. Still, there is a wrong Documentation installed.07:27
krytarikWell, then have a look at its filelist here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise-updates/i386/linux-headers-3.2.0-37-generic/filelist07:31

witikoI'm experiencing a behavior where my xfce4 mailwatch and audio volume plugins get wrong (not reflecting the theme) icons upon restart. Latest xubuntu, does anyone know if there is a way of fixing this petty but annoying bug?14:26
baizonwitiko: have you tried to switch to another theme and then back to your old theme?14:30

ronalds_mwhy can't I 200% volume on xfce?14:46

ronalds_mright14:47
ronalds_mI installed xfce on ubuntu, it's working perfectly, but can't make sound louder14:48
ronalds_mfrom mixer14:48
ronalds_mI could do that in gnome/unity part14:49
GridCuberonalds_m, that depends on each program too14:49
GridCubeyou can get to 150% overall and 150% for each program14:50
GridCube153 in fact14:51
ronalds_myeah, but how to get those controls from standart ubuntu14:51
GridCubeyou clic on the speaker icon, go to settings...?14:51

ronalds_mI have xubuntu on my second pc15:09

ronalds_mI'm happy right now15:12

LJSeinfeldGood morning -- Trying to figure out how to mount a smb (or afp) share in xubuntu.  I can access it with gigolo, but I don't know how to make it show up in the file manager (like in the mnt folder).. been googling around / trying things to no avail15:45
GridCubeits gvfs-backends installed LJSeinfeld15:46
GridCube?15:46
LJSeinfeldyes15:46
GridCubeit should just be there then15:47
LJSeinfeldI'm not sure to test / check if it's running.. but I did install it in my attempt to figure this out on my own last night15:47
LJSeinfeldin /mnt ?15:47
GridCubehttp://i.imgur.com/iV5kzOi.png15:48
GridCubeLJSeinfeld, ^ as show there it should just be smb:///15:50
holsteini just right-clicked and clicked "open" and it opened and showed me the path15:50
GridCubeholstein, ?15:50
holsteinin gigolo.. i mounted something, and right clicked on it, and the filemanger opened it, showing the path15:51
LJSeinfeldlet me see here…15:51
GridCubeoh right15:51
GridCubein my case the "Red" icon appears there, and i've never even configured a thing15:52
LJSeinfeldGridCube -- so in your example, what would be the path to that drive?15:53
holsteinLJSeinfeld: can you right click on the share? in gigolo? and click "open".. do you then see the share open a file manger?15:54
GridCubesmb:///WORKGROUP/SharedDirectory15:54
GridCube? maybe?15:54
LJSeinfeldyep -- but I'm trying to have the drive appear as local to the file manager15:55
GridCubeaaaaaaa15:55
GridCubethats different15:55
GridCubethats a whole lot different15:55
LJSeinfeldim betting..15:55
holsteinLJSeinfeld: mount it where you like15:56
LJSeinfeldI've been trying for hours.. can't seem to get it to work15:56
holstein!mount15:56
ubottumount is used to attach devices to directories. See also https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount15:56
holstein^ i would just follow that, and mount it where i want15:56
holsteinor, just use what gigolo is setting up.. or something more permanent15:57
LJSeinfeldI would like it to happen at boot, forever15:57
holsteinLJSeinfeld: i would not use gigolo then..15:58
holsteinmaybe just samba...15:58
LJSeinfeldI'm pretty new to linux, more so to xubuntu…. so I could use a little help if you guys don't mind15:58
GridCubeLJSeinfeld, add it to fstab15:59
holsteinhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently15:59
GridCubehttp://askubuntu.com/questions/157128/proper-fstab-entry-to-mount-a-samba-share-on-boot15:59
holsteinLJSeinfeld: the only suggestion i would have is to just wait.. just use gigolo, and wait til you are more comfortable.. think about how long you used windows before you auto mounted any shares at startup16:00
LJSeinfeldI have no problem with gigolo - but I need the drive to show up as local to the file system…16:01
holsteinLJSeinfeld: it *is*.. its in the mountpoint that gigolo is putting it16:01
LJSeinfeldhmm… well, I can't find it…16:02
LJSeinfeldI've looked for a hidden .gvfs folder per various google searches… nothing16:02
GridCubeholstein, its a smb:/// conection, not a mounted folder16:02
holsteinLJSeinfeld: you can also mount manually.. or use one of the links above.. i personally dont use windows, and i havent setup samba in a while.. but anything is possible16:03
holsteinGridCube: you can mount that though, correct?16:03
GridCubeno16:03
GridCubenot without smbfs16:03
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/84494/whats-the-easiest-way-to-mount-windows-share-as-a-local-folder-in-home-director16:03
holsteinLJSeinfeld: smbfs is an option, correct?16:04
LJSeinfeldwon't install via apt -- says I should use cifs-utils (which I have installed) instead16:05

LJSeinfeldthis is basically what i've been trying… can't seem to get it to work16:06
LJSeinfeldlet me try again16:06
LJSeinfeldOK, so I created folder MediaRAID in /mnt16:08
LJSeinfeldand ran sudo mount -t cifs //plex/mediaraid /mnt/MediaRAID16:08
LJSeinfeldand got "error 22 invalid argument"16:08
GridCubeporque mount?16:08
GridCubei mean, why mount?16:09
GridCubewouldnt it just be sudo cifs //blah/blah/blha /bleh/bleh?16:09
GridCubei have no idea of this though16:09
LJSeinfeldI don't know… I'm trying to follow the example given16:09
LJSeinfeldI do need it to show up at a mount point so it's local to the file system16:10
holsteinyeah, and i have no easy way of testing it with an actual windows install present, or i would16:10
LJSeinfeldbasically, I have a box that is on my LAN that needs to do work on a network share.  The programs need a path to the shared folder, so it needs to appear local16:10
LJSeinfeldlocally16:11
GridCubewait16:11
GridCubetry the ip, not just plex16:11
LJSeinfeldsame error -- but the share does need a username and password16:12
LJSeinfeldlet me try the other example and see what I get16:12
holsteini would have an open share, so you arent troubleshooting multiple issues at once16:12
LJSeinfeldnot sure how to do that on OS X16:13
LJSeinfeld(which is where the drive lives)16:13
holsteinosx can do ssh as well, if that is easier16:13
LJSeinfeldand have it show up as local  mount?16:14
GridCubeLJSeinfeld, make an fstab entry like this:16:14
GridCube/servername/sharename  /media/windowsshare  cifs  username=msusername,password=mspassword  0  016:14
GridCubeand try to mount it by sudo mount /media/windowsshare16:14
GridCubethere is an extra / at the begining of that line16:15
LJSeinfeldok .. fstab is in /etc/fstab ?16:15
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/43363/how-to-auto-mount-using-sshfs16:15
GridCubeyes16:15
LJSeinfeldso just put a line in like:16:16
LJSeinfeldweird… that got blanked out…16:17
GridCubeyes, you put a / at the begining16:17
GridCubethats an irc command16:17
LJSeinfeldahh.. right16:18
GridCubeadd a few spaces at the beginig and type again16:18
GridCubeor 3 /16:18
GridCube//16:18
LJSeinfeldso   //plex/mediaraid  /mnt/MediaRAID cifs username=plex,password=mypassword 0 016:19
GridCubesure16:19
LJSeinfeld2 spaces between //plex/mediaraid and  /mnt…….16:19
GridCubein theory, if cifs its installed, that should, maybe work16:19
GridCubespaces are irrelevant, you can use tab or spaces, just no linebreaks16:20
LJSeinfeldsingle spaces are ok too then?16:20
GridCubefor all that i know, yes16:20
GridCubei like to use tabs16:20
LJSeinfeldok..16:20
LJSeinfeldI can just append to the end of my fstab16:21
LJSeinfeld?16:21
holsteini do.. just back it up, and know how to restore using a live CD16:21
GridCubeadd a new line, put that in, hit enter to add an empty line16:21
GridCubeP: well, yes, what holstein said makes sense16:22
LJSeinfeldOk it's in there --- now what?16:22
GridCubenow save the file16:23

GridCubeor an older cifs16:28
LJSeinfeldhow do I pull that off…16:28
LJSeinfeldjust was going to ask how to downgrade cifs16:28
GridCubeno idea16:29
holsteinmaybe just search cifs in synaptic and step it down.. or try the ssh share16:29
GridCubeor try a newer kernel16:29
GridCube(in my opinion your best aproach)16:30
holsteinGridCube: you think mainline?16:30
holstein!mainline16:30
ubottuThe kernel team supply continuous mainline kernel builds which can be useful for tracking down issues or testing recent changes in the Linux kernel. More information is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds16:30
GridCubethat should do, its in the recommended solutions on lp16:30
holsteini remember running a mainline kernel for a while, to test something16:30
GridCubeeven thought that might break other things16:30
holsteinyeah... again, knowing how to boot the current kernel, and recover.. keep the kernel that you have LJSeinfeld16:31
LJSeinfeldI'm gonna need a little newb-level help with this16:32
LJSeinfeldmaybe easier to downgrade cifs?16:32
LJSeinfeldat least no chance of not booting then?16:32
GridCubeyeah, the problem is, dependecies are a weird topic, if you downgrade something, it might need downgraded deps, that might mean that other apps would fail and so on16:33
LJSeinfeldsame for moving kernel in another direction, no?16:34
holsteini would try it... as long as you have a decent idea how to recover.. or just do ssh16:34
GridCubeP: but if its ppaed, you can ppa-purge16:34
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/43363/how-to-auto-mount-using-sshfs seems too easy16:34
GridCube!info ppa-purge16:34
ubottuppa-purge (source: ppa-purge): disables a PPA and reverts to official packages. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.2.8+bzr56.0.12.10 (quantal), package size 5 kB, installed size 44 kB16:34
LJSeinfeldlooking at ssh..16:34
Cheri703at some point, I need some help with getting x11vnc set up, because it is NOT working pretty much at all for me :s16:38
LJSeinfeldlol first example of sshfs produces a mystery file in /mnt/MediaRAID… I click it and xbuntu asks me what I'd like to try and open it with16:46
LJSeinfeld… this should not have to be this difficult.16:46
