runtyrobotEvening. My wifi seems to be unable to reconnect after the computer has been slept or restarted. If I remove the network from the list in network management and re-add it, it works fine. Any ideas?00:00
FloodBotK1!netsplit00:04
ubottunetsplit is when two IRC servers of the same network (like freenode) disconnect from each other, so users on one server stop seeing users on the other. If this is happening now, just relax and enjoy the show. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netsplit00:04

shalokshalomIv got nearly the same challenge in openSUSE, so maybe its a driver issue ?00:33
nellguys I have kubuntu installed on my system which supports a GTX 67000:34
nellare the nvidia drivers okay to put on? or are they unstable00:34
shalokshalomTry the Wifi Driver from the restricted extras runtyrobot ?00:34
runtyrobotshalokshalom: maybe, the odd thing is - it worked in the beginning.00:35
runtyrobotI'll have to look that up - rather new to this :)00:35
shalokshalomnell If the free drivers enought for you, i would leave it00:35
shalokshalomrobot Same Story in SUSE00:36
shalokshalomFor a while and then: disconnect, right ?00:36
shalokshalomWith Wifi Card/Chip ?00:36
runtyrobotbuilt in chip00:36
runtyrobotbut I have only experienced one disconnect during use00:37
runtyrobotI just can't reconnect when I've been disconnected, for some reason00:37
shalokshalomI shall pass this way but once;01:01
shalokshalomany good therefore that I can do,01:01

Whiskey`Wonkais there a gui interface for setting h cpu gonernor and the min/max speeds? using the cli i can change the governor but after a min or two it goes back to performance and is locked at one of the lower speeds, this is causing my laptop to overheat08:32
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: There is a Unity indicator that does this and strangely enough it works in Kubunu. A different program does not spring to mind, however a GUI will probably not solve the problem, how old is the laptop?08:37
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: not very old, 2.5 years08:38
yo3igahave you tried this one ?  http://www.webupd8.org/2010/07/jupiter-ubuntu-ppa-hardware-and-power.html08:38
Whiskey`Wonkayo3iga: no i have not.08:39
yo3igai installed on asus eeepc for a few models and obn other laptops and it works like charm08:39
yo3igaplease try it08:39
Whiskey`Wonkathere used to be the battery manager? that let you select what governor was used, it changed at some point08:40
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: This is the indicator: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/cpu-frequency-scaling-applet-in-unity.html08:40
yo3igai belive it will do the job for you08:40
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: After 2.5 years you might want to check/replace the cooling liquid between the cpu and the heatsink. Also be sure to install lm-sensors.08:41
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: the issue is purely that the cpu is being pegged at 1.9ghz and never being allowed to scale, if i boot windows it never gets warm at all08:42
yo3igalordevader, you are so right he should do that08:42
Whiskey`Wonkait runs like ass at 1.9 too, it needs to scale UP some times too but doesnt08:42
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: If it overheats that is a bigger problem than being stuck at 1.9, if you ask me. (Because they are probably related ;))08:43
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: when i say 'over heat' i do not mean reaching shutdown temps08:43
Whiskey`Wonkai mean its warmer then cool08:43
Whiskey`Wonkaand its stuck at 1.9 due to the governor, RE: current policy: frequency should be within 1.90 GHz and 1.90 GHz08:44
Whiskey`Wonkadoesnt matter what the gov is when its told it doesnt have any other option08:45
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: With cpufreq-set you can specify the max and min values of a governor.08:45
lordievader(--min and --max)08:46
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: yes ive done that via cli and a few min later it reverts08:46
Whiskey`Wonkaso i assumed there was some default policy in 12.04 with a place to configure it08:46
Whiskey`Wonkai know in 10 there was and i would sware it was the battery app08:46
Whiskey`Wonkabut that might be a different distro08:47
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: Interesting, do you have some powersaving application installed who puts it back? Default is ondemand, however if you change it Kubuntu won't change it back.08:47
Whiskey`Wonkaim on this thing waiting for my i7 to get back from repair, weak power jack08:47
Whiskey`Wonkano i have not changed it08:47
Whiskey`Wonkabut it boots with 'performance' and 1.9/1.908:48
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: Does cpufreq-info specify more supported frequencies?08:48
Whiskey`Wonkayes08:49
yo3igamaybe you have to take a look in bios settings08:49
Whiskey`Wonkabut when the gov is told it can only select between 1.9 and 1.9, its going to pick 1.908:49
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: And specifying a higher freq with the -c flag, does the system put it back after a while?08:50
Whiskey`Wonkayo3iga: no bios settings have changed since i have 9 or 10 on here and ive directly upgraded from them to 11 to 1208:50
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: yes, all settings revert to performance 1.9/1.908:50
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: What cpu are we talking about anyway?08:51
Whiskey`Wonkaa craptastic AMD Turion(tm) II P540 Dual-Core Processor08:51
Whiskey`Wonkajupiter sorta did it08:57
Whiskey`Wonkaits at least keeping the gov at ondemand08:58
yo3igatold ya08:58
Whiskey`Wonkabut it doesnt set selectable freq and its still only allowed 1.908:58
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: Cool and Quiet is enabled in the bios?08:59
Whiskey`Wonkahttp://pastebin.com/gydU77wE08:59
yo3igado a reboot and see then08:59
Whiskey`Wonkathats not what its called on this laptop08:59
Whiskey`Wonkayes it is enabled it was one of the first things i checked09:00
Whiskey`Wonkaits option is 'os select' and 'min performance'09:00
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: Hmm, too bad.09:01
Whiskey`Wonkayea its to bad kubuntu went and doesnt have any way to configure what ever is used for cpu scaling now in 12.0409:01
Whiskey`Wonkahmmm09:09
Whiskey`Wonkaok edited /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq and now it has the range!09:12
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: Isn /sys a virtual mount?09:13
Whiskey`Wonkaisnt it a redirect for /proc ?09:13
Whiskey`Wonkawell, its working, so ill stick with it09:15
Whiskey`Wonkanow its spending all (or most) of its time at 800mhz09:16
Whiskey`Wonkanice and sleepy09:16
Whiskey`Wonkathese Turions just are not i7's heh09:16
lordievaderQuote from about.com: "Starting with kernel 2.6 there's a new /sys directory for PnP configuration. It's a sysfs tpye of filesystem and it's something like the /proc filesystem since the "files" represent information in the kernel memory and are not on your harddrive. But it's not as useful as the /proc filesystem."09:17
Whiskey`Wonkawell i found info saying that in 2.6 cpu scaling was moved there09:18
Whiskey`Wonkaand my edits had the desired effect09:18
Whiskey`Wonkaits all kernel scaling now, or thats the direction the devs want it to go any how09:18
Whiskey`Wonkajust for what ever issue, my upgrade path did not set the min/max/gov correctly09:19
lordievaderI'm glad you fixed your problem :)09:19
Whiskey`Wonkait looks like it set it to what my last configs max was for, video streaming at 1900mhz with ondemand09:19
Whiskey`Wonkame too and thanks for the help09:19
lordievaderNo problem, that's why I'm here :)09:21
Whiskey`Wonkaheheh09:22
Whiskey`Wonkasomewhat i guess so09:22
Whiskey`Wonkanow if we can figure out this damn touchpad issue....09:24
Whiskey`Wonkaits the first truely 'wtf thats a windows trait' ive had in like 8? years09:26
Whiskey`Wonkathe pad randomly becomes one big left button, only a reboot fixes it09:26
Whiskey`Wonkaany idea on how to reset the pad? there doesnt look to be a dedicated module09:26
lordievaderWhiskey`Wonka: I have about zero experience with touchpad failures/bugs/errors...09:28
Whiskey`Wonkalordievader: yea for me its 'does it work? no? did the syntaptic module load? no? load it'09:29
Whiskey`Wonkabut this is something funky and never did have a module load for it09:29
Whiskey`Wonkawell that was stupid simple, reload module psmouse09:35
