[01:35] harrisr mentioned some need for assistance with libre and ubuntu [01:35] he can elaborate [01:35] or tell more about it [01:35] i dont know his issue *shrug* [02:25] hello [02:28] anyone here? [02:28] growingpains08: sure.. ask if you have a question [02:29] trying to look for all files with the name list in there [02:29] in them [02:29] and I type find . -name *list* [02:29] which doesn't work [02:29] but if i type find . -name *list\* [02:29] it works [02:29] and i dont know why. what is the "\" for === komputes_ is now known as komputes === jackyalcine is now known as Guest69145 === tenach is now known as cptmashek === cptmashek is now known as tenach === tenach is now known as cptmashek === Guest69145 is now known as Jacky === Jacky is now known as jalcine === Atlantic778 is now known as Atlantic777 [07:23] Is anyone there? [07:23] I' [07:23] Sorry, one sec. [07:23] I've got a problem that I think is probably rather advanced. [07:26] Sisyphus1: may I help? [07:27] Indeed I HOPE so, lol. [07:27] Here's the breakdown, in simplest terms. [07:27] Supermicro X7DAL-E+ motherboard. Server board. Two 64-bit Xeon 3.0 Ghz processors. [07:28] I've gotten 64-bit Ubuntu installed... but I can only boot into it when using the SuperGRUB2 Recovery disk. [07:28] Got Windows 7 to work on it... but I had to "force" it on there, in an odd way. [07:29] Like, I had to install the 5000x chipset drivers, then re-boot, then I could install it. [07:29] ...the Supermicro Website only has the drivers for Linux RedHat, and I haven't figured out how to install them and get them to work in Ubuntu. [07:30] There are other issues, but I figure we might start with that one, lol. [07:30] ...it's a pretty important one, I think. :P [07:33] ...so anyway I yanked out the HDD with Win 7 on it and I've been trying to get Ubuntu to work on it, on its own. [07:34] ...because I'm like that. [07:34] ...and I want Ubuntu to work on it SOOOOO bad. [07:34] ...seems like an advanced issue, really. [07:34] Any thoughts, guys'n'gals? [08:53] Sisyphus1: hey [08:54] so what drive is set to boot at start? [08:57] I suppose there isn't one. [08:58] I've been told the GRUB2 is the problem, and that it's not a driver problem. [08:58] It potentially might be. [08:58] Not sure I believe that though, but if it's true, will this solve my probleM? [08:58] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43C2qaYY8zE [08:59] Have you tried installing an older version of grub onto the partition? [08:59] you might have to install an older version of Ubuntu to do so [08:59] No, haven't tried that yet. [09:00] please do :) [09:02] Well, in either case, looks like the best route is to use an alternative CD to do it. [09:02] That's the best way to go about it. [09:03] There are no alternates, except for the mini. [09:03] !mini [09:03] The Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD [09:05] http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ [09:06] Quantal and up don't, that is. (I always disregard LTS releases) [09:06] ...so I can just use my Ubuntu-64 disk and boot from that, and do the same thing? [14:52] On 12.10. What is the best GUI, way for me to add drive partitions so that they are mounted at boot time? [16:11] SpudULike: helo [16:14] I am not famiiliar with a GUI way to do this. You willl need to add the drive to your fsta file [16:14] fstab* [16:16] SpudULike: actually i just hear about pysdm [16:16] sudo apt-get install pysdm [16:17] before drocedding back up old file - sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.old [16:18] SpudULike: for more see this pae http://www.webupd8.org/2011/11/how-to-mount-partitions-automatically.html [16:18] obviously ignore the Fedora parts :) [16:18] hope that helps [16:19] hey; I have a lumia 920 windows phone, and when I plug it into my ubuntu 12.10 laptop it's not being recognized by my computer [16:31] Phryq: what version android OS? [16:34] sorry probably not running android..habit [16:34] many users have reported being able to connect no problem...? [16:34] i am stumped [16:34] not Android; Windows 8 === ikonia_ is now known as ikonia [17:14] hi duanedesign : oddly, I don't think there is a version of pysdm for 12.10. [17:15] :9 [17:15] :(
