alexandros_cI need some help please, I installed the scanner drivers for my Brother MFC-J425W ALL-in-One in lubuntu but simple scan does not see the scanner. However my other computer running xubuntu can see the scanner using simple scan. Anyone have any ideas?05:09
phiscribemissing some package is my guess alexandros_c05:11
JohnDoe_71Rusor udev rules05:12
alexandros_cI checked the missing to the best of my ability between the two systems and installed those that were missing but no luck :(05:13
alexandros_cJohnDoe_71Rus,  do you know where to locate the udev rules so that I can compare them between the two system?05:14
phiscribesane-utils sane xsane worth a try.  are those installed on the xubuntu box?05:15

phiscribeim not sure, just trying to help you brainstorm.05:20
alexandros_cphiscribe, appreciating the help may be you will come with something I overlook :)05:21
phiscribeis it 32 bit or 64 bit05:22
alexandros_c6405:22
alexandros_con both05:22
phiscribedo you have a usr/lib64 folder05:22
alexandros_cyip05:23
phiscribei wonder of you could compare whats in that folder on the two machines, looking for scanner relavant stuff.  maybe something wants parts of that to be in /usr/lib instead.  just thinking out loud.05:24
phiscribemy lubuntu machines are all old 32 bit05:24
lightaho guys, I'm searching how to permanently turn off screensaver on lxde05:25
alexandros_cthat machine has a low end processor05:25
phiscribealexandros_c, maybe here:  http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/faq_scn.html#f0010105:25
phiscribelighta, its always been a bit mysterious to me.  i have screensaver disabled but my power settings blank the screen after awhile.  i dont remember how  i turned it off.05:33
lightaok I turn it off last time05:34
lightabut wasn't permanent05:34
phiscribethe lxde sight says its in an openbox autostart.sh file, but ive never seen it.05:34
phiscribesite05:34
JohnDoe_71Rusphiscribe: you сan use xfce4-power manager05:35
lightaalso I'm trying to look wich one i'm using since I don't remenber installation but I think I'm on ubuntu with xfce, not lubuntu session, but you can try in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart05:35

alexandros_cgood night all o/05:52
JohnDoe_71Rusmorning :)06:03
lantiziaOK so I installed 13.04 in a VM... and I'm still thinking... *meh*12:34
lantizia*meh* because there is still things like abiword/gnumeric when libreoffice clearly wins out... *meh* because theres is no pulseaudio (and mainly I cry about this because on gnome/unity it has really good sound preferences)... *meh* because the icons used in the menu are not the originals and i've no idea how to get the originals back unlike in mate/gnome212:36
lantiziaanyone know of any other lxde but ubuntu-derived distro's ?12:36
lantiziaah! program icons update only when log in and out :S hmm12:41
phiscribelantizia, man im not sure what your looking for, maybe kde.  abiword and gnumeric are light.  i run lubuntu on a p4 with 1g ram, sometimes 1/2 gig.  pulseaudio will idle 30% cpu.  all those sound utils eat resources.  alsamixer works like a champ.12:42
phiscribei replace chromium with midori12:42
lantiziasee i'd replace chromium with chrome  - but that's just me12:44
lantiziaat the moment I use MATE... but since LXDE has a bigger following than MATE (well ok at least I *think* they do) and MATE is gnome2 which is some very old code... i'd ratheer follow lxde12:45
lantiziai don't need something as fancy as kde/unity/gnome312:45
lantiziaalso mtpaint might be light weight - but it is way too feature rich for a simple paint program12:48
lantizialike exporting ascii art wtf ?12:48
lantiziakpaint is a good choice - but then the downside is it needs kde libraries lol12:48
lantiziathe entertainment pack that is installed looks like it is from an ancient pre-Xorg linux 2.0 release lol - simon tathams games would make a fine lightweight non-gnome choice though12:49
cerebratehow do i download data from youtube15:04
cerebratethe data of the video15:04
cerebrateit doesn't play all the way :C15:04
cerebratehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycn-I1-aDwo&feature=endscreen&NR=115:05
phiscribeputs the youtube somewhere chromiums cache.  hard to dig out without a cache viewer tool.  easier just to use a web service like this:  http://en.savefrom.net16:01
phiscribeand i think the source field which reality emerges from is pure consciousness btw cerebrate16:03
cerebratecool=16:04
phiscribebut if you use that en.savefrom.net site it will give you a url straight to the file, like http://s03.savefrom.net/media/212203819/427df958db63be44bea1fbfdb13594ff/Quantum+Physics+%26+Consciousness.mp416:06

divx118Can the battery icon be removed in the tray (lubuntu 11.10)?19:37
zleaphave a look at panel preferences19:38
zleapor panel settings19:39
divx118Hmm, must have overlooked it then. I will take a look again.19:40
phillwdivx118: it is under Preferences --> Power Manager19:41
divx118phillw: Is it xfce4-power-manager? I am missing the power manager entry under preferences.19:48
phillwdivx118: let me check my repos in my 11.10 (I may have the developer backports ppa enabled).19:50
phillwsorry, was checking my 12.04. Starting oneric now.19:51
divx118No problem, I have time :)19:52
Unit193Keep in mind it's life ends in April.19:54
phillwRight Click on the task-bar, select Add / Remove Panel Items, select Panel Applets. You should see the Battery Monitor icon listed.19:55
divx118Ah, It will be time then that I fix my touchscreen driver. No right click yet.19:57
divx118Thanks for the info.19:58
phillwdivx118: it may an idea to update to 12.04, even though not LTS for all lubuntu specific applications, the kernel / browser etc will retain LTS from 'core' ubuntu teams19:59
divx118phillw: I won't gain much by updating to ubuntu 12.04 I am working on an arm device with a half ported 2.6.37 kernel. There are still some things I need to fix in the kernel. Most problems I encounter are kernel related.20:05
divx118I wanted the battery icon gone, because I want my own coded icon to replace it.20:06
divx118Battery is working, but my kernel doesn't support acpi.20:07
divx118So I just want to read the value directly from /sys20:07
gomiboydivx118: I'm curious... what arm device?20:11
divx118archos 101IT gen8 with 3630 processor from TI20:12
divx118Close to beagleboardXM20:12
divx118Original kernel is 2.6.2920:12
gomiboyOh, a tablet, out of mi interests, thanks :)20:16
redtape-renegadeNone of my packages are installing on the Lubuntu Software Center.. anyone else got this ?20:44
zleapi am sure latex can do that sort of thing20:52

aJacomif i install lubuntu instead of ubuntu will i be able to run all the applications or will i have a reduced number of options?21:30
gohstAs far as I have seen there should be no problems...21:31
aJacomgohst, my question comes because i know there are some applications built for gnome, and lubuntu uses lxde21:32
aJacomsorry21:33
aJacomdid you say anything ?21:33
Unit193Same repos, so same programs.21:34
Unit193Now, you'll want to be careful with gnome ones, and some kde ones too, but you can install them.21:34
gohstas i have seen in my own expirience is that there are seldom real trouble... i have changed my netbook from ubuntu-gnome to lubuntu and i have no trouble... yet21:35
aJacomalright, nice, thanks21:35
