bl4deHi to all!08:47
bl4deI'm interested into developing for tablet, and I have a Nexus 7.08:48
bl4deSince I use the tablet for personal purposes, I want to know if and when comes a build that allows me to use the tablet for development AND normal purposes...08:50
aassaasshey, how can i update08:54
aassaassi have just installed the os and i like to know if there is an automatic update within the system08:55
aassaass?08:55
aassaassthanks08:55
aassaasshow can i replace the wifi drivers ?08:55
ogra_the safest update procedure at the moment is to re-flash08:56
ogra_the phablet-flash tool has an option to flash the latest daily08:57
ogra_to replace wifi drivers you would have to re-roll the android image that is used for the HW management ... code is at phablet.ubuntu.com08:58
bl4deogra_, can you tell me what functions have improved latest builds for Nexus 7?08:59
ogra_nope, i dont follow 100s of chagelogs :)09:00
ogra_there willl be a changelog summary soon that will be published along with the images though09:01
ogra_(see the mailing list, it was announced there)09:01
bl4deI'm VERY interested into help to developing it, but I don't want to flash into my tablet if is completely unusable :/09:01
ogra_well, its usable for development, the browser doesnt know tabs yet and the amount of apps is really limited09:03
Namidairoand what reason would you have for replacing the wifi drivers09:03
Namidairobcmdhd works juuuust fine.09:03
ogra_if you rely on watching movies, litesning to music, playing games and reading books on your tablet, its not for you yet09:04
ogra_Namidairo, you wish :)09:04
bl4deogra_, no, I mean usable also (limitedly) for "normal" uses, since I frequently use my tablet for taking notes, messaging etc. :)09:04

ogra_adb while in recovery mode09:15
dun1982from the build-image directly?09:15
dun1982Hm... for some reason I cannot adb while in recovery (tested that on Sat).09:15
dun1982I'm using CWM 6.0.23 and Mobile Odin, there is no factory recovery anymore in my slate.09:16
ogra_when i flashed the zip it catually properly flashed the recovery partition so i could boot into recovery (noticed that it had an ubuntu wallpaper there so i knew something had worked) and inspect from there09:16
dun1982Aah, I did not get even that far.09:16
dun1982It seems that nothing is loaded from the build image. The device just freezes to "Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7" startup screen and that's it.09:17
ogra_no black screen after that ?09:18
ogra_for me it went to a black screen for a moment and then rebooted09:18
dun1982Nope, not even there.09:18
dun1982It feels like it does not load anything from the image.09:18
ogra_but you can get into recovery atm ?09:18
dun1982I can CWM recovery yes, I can reload any image I want. But I cannot get any logs or anything to know what's happening...09:19
ogra_hmm, i thought CWM always runs adb...09:19
dun1982well when I have CWM running and I try adb devices (empty).09:19
dun1982If I put sideload open, I get something visible, but still I cannot adb shell or adb push at all.09:20

hopkinskongOK, i think it should not revalent with the DNS12:35
hopkinskongIDK what problem is it, but it DOES NOT do with DNS.12:36

rsalvetipmcgowan: once that is working as expected, I'll hook a script that will generate the changelog when creating the image18:35
pmcgowanrsalveti: then we parse it for a summary ?18:35
pmcgowanok cool18:35
rsalvetipmcgowan: yes, we basically create a manifest diff and grab the latest package changelog18:35

ogra_that will become a huge file if you dont restrict it though18:36

ogra_that will not be usable18:38
rsalvetiright, we could just publish a script, if that's too much18:39

ogra_in a single file if you look for something18:39

ogra_i had a similar issue ...19:52
MrNerdok so how do i know if i did everything right19:52
MrNerdi compiled19:52
MrNerdi flashed19:52
ogra_i then booted into recovery (nicely finding that it has an ubuntu logo) and noticed that /data and /system arent mounted, so the unzipping went nowhere19:52
MrNerdok so my recovery19:53
MrNerdwhen i flash19:53
MrNerdand it stays that.19:53
MrNerdis twrp19:53
ogra_so i pushed both zips via adb to the sdcard folder ... mounted both direcotries with adb and used the flashing from the recovery menu19:53
ogra_that solved it for me, apart from some font rendering issues with the mali driver the image works fine on my S219:54
MrNerdboth zips meaning the preinstall  and the built zip?19:54
ogra_(and i only followed the porting guide, no magic involved)19:54

catman232(Sorry, i'm a complete noob)20:18
MrNerdno it boots cm1020:18
MrNerdi did that.20:18
MrNerdi was working on a zip that flashes it all at once20:18
catman232Well, obviously it would20:18
MrNerdinstead of seperare20:18
MrNerdit hasa framework of cm10.20:18
catman232You'd have to develop a way to switch between the two20:18
ogra_catman232, nope, wont work without the ubuntu modifications to CM20:18
MrNerdajalkane20:19
MrNerdwhat you drinking!20:19
ali1234guys, if you want to run dalvik apps on ubuntu you are much better using a higher level emulation like how wine does it20:19

ajalkaneAt the moment red wine, for my own pleasure.20:19
MrNerdoh nice!20:19

MrNerdyes!!20:19
doomlordis the answer dual-booting20:20
catman232Dual-booting isn't very clean20:20
MrNerdcan we even dual boot?20:20
ali1234catman232: java is always emulated 100% of the time... and so is dalvik. so there is zero hit from doing it this way20:20
ajalkaneJust run of the mill australian cabernet sauvignon20:20
MrNerdpro touch 2 could dual boot android20:20
MrNerdthat cheap stuff?20:20
doomlordn7 dualbooting android & ubuntu desktop would seem like a nice setup20:21
catman232alil, I mean emulation as far as emulating a complete seperate environment20:21
catman232Like a virtual machine20:21
MrNerdwell not cheap but under $2020:21
MrNerdogra_20:21
ajalkaneYeah, I'm price conscious wine drinker. You could also say a "poor man" wine drinker20:21

briondual-booting would be nice as a developer who occasionally needs to test, but for a user i'd much rather have direct android app compatibility on ubuntu.20:22
ajalkaneI drink for taste... but I don't mind getting drunk either. I'm pretty fine with that in fact.20:22
MrNerdsome drinks taste so good alcho ruins it20:22
_Scott_why does the ubuntu wiki for Touch only have instructions related to devices with Android on them? what if I have a blank tablet I want to install it on?20:22
ali1234emulation has kind of lost it's meaning since everything is software these days20:22

menelkir_Scott_: if you have a p3100, youre in luck cause I have a semi-functional build :P20:23
catman232Ubuntu's interface looks really nice, but my only worry is how they're going to start gettings people to build native apps20:23
_Scott_trying to get it on an ExoPC20:23
ali1234anyway, sunch android emulation layer already exists. it is up to OEMs to license it or not20:23
catman232For instance, Facebook probably won't come out with a native app becuase the HTML5 one works just fine for them20:23
brionin which case, why bother writing native apps. :) html forevah20:24
ali1234see http://openmobileww.com/products.php20:24

_Scott_thanks for the info20:25
catman232Yeah, I hope Ubuntu does better than the other platforms20:25
ajalkaneI'm rooting for Sailfish and Ubuntu. I wish they both do well.20:25
ali1234as a user of linux smartphones for several years i hope desktop and mobile is never unified, because it makes absolutely no sense at all20:25
doomlordI hope we find enough ways of making mobile programs work 'ok' with mouse (mouse+keys)20:26
catman232Yeah, I think Sailfish is OK. I don't really like the UI very much though20:26
doomlordthen the desktop is basically windowed mobile apps20:26
ajalkaneSailfish UI looks lots better now than last year. And I trust it's improved further come release.20:26
catman232Android is still my favorite because it doesn't feel like a toy, and i'm not doing random gestures everywhere to reveal hidden menus and such20:26
MrNerdlol20:27
doomlordgestures work better than buttons for youch20:27
doomlordtouch^20:27
ajalkaneBut Ubuntu UI looked really great in the demos. Then again, it remains to be seen what the development APIs are for Ubuntu phone for mobile specific parts. Sailfish probably has better understanding on that by their MeeGo inheritance.20:27
catman232The only thing i've ever used is Android and iOS (only used iOS for a few months), so that's part of the reason I want to try Ubuntu20:28
catman232I might change my mind20:28

catman232I really like Ubuntu's UI, besides having to swipe up then push back to go back20:28
ali1234doomlord: pretty much the whole archive is built for arm already20:29
doomlordwant: ubuntu arm desktop on N1020:29
catman232That'll get annoying if you dig deep into menus or whatever20:29
doomlordbut it needs more optimiztion & device support ?20:29
doomlordThe other thing is ubuntu on win8 touch laptops20:29
ajalkaneWhat's this push back to go back?20:29
ali1234ajalkane: open hud, press back button20:30
ajalkaneI thought Ubuntu phone has the traditional back button to go up the stack20:30
catman232I'm talking about having to swipe up to reveal the back button20:30
ogra_doomlord, it runs fine on a surface pro20:30
doomlordOne machine i'm very tempted by is a Lenovo Yoga.20:30
ali1234ajalkane: it does but it is hidden behind a gesture20:30
doomlordogra_, thats great news20:30
ajalkaneali1234: I see... we're not talking in-app navigation but something to do with the hud?20:30
ali1234ajalkane: the hud is the only type of in app navigation there is20:30
catman232Wait, is the Ubuntu Touch UI going to run on the desktop version of Ubuntu too?20:31
catman232That'd be awesome20:31
ajalkaneNot sure I understand... what I've looked at the APIs this description doesn't ring bells to me.20:31
doomlordany videos of ubuntu on surface pro ?20:31
ali1234ajalkane: go into gallery, open a photo, now try to go back to the overview20:32
ali1234ajalkane: or try to back in the browser20:32
ajalkaneali1234: ok I have no idea about that as I can't install Ubuntu touch on any device I own. I only know the QML apis, and you can have the back button in the menu. I guess it's application specific how it's implemented.20:32
catman232Other than that (minor) thing, I think the UI is pretty awesome20:32
ali1234ajalkane: what menu?20:32
ajalkaneI'm at the impression that the swipes are reserved for changing between tabs20:33
ali1234no, there is a swipe that reveal the menu too20:33
ajalkanethe toolbar menu that's available at bottom20:33
ali1234yes, you have to swipe to reveal that20:33

ogra_why such effort, roll a proper kernel from the android source and use ubuntu-core as starting base21:28
_Scott_is this OS always going to rely on an android base?21:36
KalleWhoeverI like the idea of turning every CM device into a normal linux device by helping with the Xserver, the network and the touch, instead of tinkering with the initrd and drivers for every new build21:37
KalleWhoeverI dont think so.21:37
KalleWhoeverThanks for the input on the Xserver problem21:40

JoinTheRealmsHey guys, Im looking to create a universel boot animation for ubuntu touch, how would this be implemented into ubuntu touch? does it use a desc file like android?21:42
gt-i9001hi, no one is adapting to the rom samsung galaxy s plus (GT-I9001)?21:45
ogra_JoinTheRealms, theoretically we use plymouth for boot animations, but with todays announced display server the whole world might change soon21:46
gt-i9001uff...i wont ubuntu on my sgs+ >.<21:50
ogra_gt-i9001, port it then, its not hard :)21:51
ogra_(not a beginner task, but also not very advanced)21:51
gt-i9001and now? nothing? i can't port it in my sgs+ ...21:53

DanielHolmhi all, where can I find the default icons for Ubuntu touch? will I have to sumply them myself in the app, or can I somehow reuse those in the OS like I can when writing GTK apps?22:00
ogra_they should all be CC licensed22:05
DanielHolmyeah, but where are they? haha22:06
ogra_i would guess in one of these trees launchpad.net/ubuntu-touch-preview22:06
DanielHolmall try to find them, then. thanks22:07

OrokuSakiinit: network-manager state changed from post-stop to waiting????22:40
OrokuSakiIf I run ifconfig I get22:41
OrokuSakiWarning: cannot open /proc/net/dev (No such file or directory). Limited output.22:41
OrokuSakibut if I mount proc inside of the chroot then the network-manager seems to crash22:41
OrokuSakiQuestion.. Should proc be mounted inside of the chroot?22:42
OrokuSakiIf I have proc mounted inside of the chroot then this is my error in network-manager.log Could not daemonize: Permission denied [error 13]22:45
OrokuSakihmmm22:45
matgeboiko: can you give me some guidance on telepathy-python? I build a basic telepathy connection manager, and I already get messages sent from the clients. But how do I handle incoming messages? Seems like I first have to announce a new contact and then announce a new channel and then announce a new text?22:51
OrokuSakiI didn't realize I could ifconfig wlan0 up and iwlist without having a /proc mounted inside of chroot. =)22:52
OrokuSakiAnyone know how I can get the network-manager to see my wireless?22:53
matgetry restarting network-manager, that did the trick for my usb0 interface22:54
OrokuSakitried that one22:54
OrokuSakiDo you guys have /proc mounted inside your chroot?22:56
OrokuSakiSomeone please answer that =)22:56
ogra_its not mounted by default when you chroot (like in any other chroot)22:57
ogra_dont forget to unmount it before exiting ... else it stays in your /etc/mtab22:57
OrokuSakithanks ogra! just wondering if it *should* be.. I figure if you guys don't I shouldnt22:58
OrokuSakiwhat.. so it should be mounted then?22:58
dank101how long does it take for phablet-dev-bootstrap to download?22:58
ogra_OrokuSaki, some tools (top for example) need /proc ... if you run anything needing /proc, mount it manually22:58
ogra_dank101, its ~15G22:58
dank101orga_, ok 2 more hours22:59
ogra_OrokuSaki, but if you mounted it manually, also make sure to unmount it again22:59
OrokuSakiso confused.. I cannot use iwlist or ifconfig unless /proc is mounted inside... but if I do network-manager complains about permissions.. So.. I figure it should be in my fstab and given rights that are not root?23:00
OrokuSakimy proc mount?23:00
dank101tl;dr USE ADB ROOT OR SU23:00

OrokuSaki cool.. rebooted typed mount in chroot and I got none on /proc type proc (rw,noexec,nodev,proc)23:17
Tigrouzenok try load it in module23:17
essentialza little new to this, but giving it a shot none the less... I'm at the part where i need to enable a new device. It ask me to add kernel and system to local manifest. But none exists in .repo.... only manifest.xml, should i create a file called local_manifest.xml?23:17
ogra_OrokuSaki, did you unmount before rebooting ?23:17
OrokuSakiIhave the module load at boot23:17
ali1234essentialz: just put it in manifest.xml23:17
OrokuSakino.. I decided to leave it in mtab so it would mount automatically, and without nosuid23:17

ogra_OrokuSaki, the last level wont be there23:20
Tigrouzeni mean of course your board wifi config name23:20
ogra_its just leftover from the reboot23:20
ogra_it could very well be that upstart wont work with your kernel though ... which means none of the daemons will be started/startable23:20
OrokuSakiCONFIG_WIRELESS=y23:21
OrokuSakithanks ogra!23:21

OrokuSakithats not in my kernel23:21
ogra_right, thats a feature upstart uses23:22
OrokuSakithink its affecting wifi?23:22
ogra_and 2.6.35 is pretty dusty already23:22
ogra_not wifi23:22
ogra_but daemons23:22
ali1234anyone got any non-ubuntu distros running on top of phablet yet?23:22
OrokuSakikrap23:22
ogra_like for example network-manager23:22
OrokuSakiwhich would make sense about my daemon permission if /proc is mounted?23:23
ogra_ali1234, that should be super trivial ... not sure what you would gain from it though23:23
OrokuSakiyou guys know anyone around that?23:23

ali1234ogra_: well, wayland and systemd for one thing :P23:23

ali1234and <whatever> isn't lennartOS23:24
ogra_mark didnt write much code in ubuntu :)23:24
ogra_while lennart owns redhats plumbing layer23:24
OrokuSakiperhaps fanotify can be backported.. got a buddy to backport ion and kgsl to 2.6.3523:24
ogra_i would tarher go with a newer kernel23:25
ogra_*rather23:25
OrokuSaki3.0.8 is possible, but its not really finished23:25
OrokuSakisound never worked on it23:25
OrokuSakijcsullins is in charge of that kernel23:25
ogra_yeah, thats bad on a phone when wanting to make calls23:25
essentialzali1234: does this look right:   <project path="kernel/HTC/ville" name="CyanogenMod/android_kernel_htc_msm8960" />   <project path="device/HTC/ville" name="CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_ville" />23:25
OrokuSakiI tried that kernel but had problems with egl and opengl23:26
OrokuSakiI have an idea.. one more question23:26
rsalvetiargh, 2.6.35 is indeed very old23:26
ali1234essentialz: no, you need a couple of extra attributes23:26
rsalvetimight cause some other issues with libc23:26
ali1234essentialz: you need to specify remote and branch23:26
OrokuSakido get the display up I have to copy all my jellybean libs to /system/libs cp -R23:26
rsalvetiactually, I believe we only had issues with older than 2923:27
ali1234if not using the default, which you are not23:27
rsalvetiogra_: lennartOS lol23:27
ogra_essentialz, you likely want to give it a revision too23:27
OrokuSakiafter that I copy all the files from the ubuntu touch libs back to where they were23:27
ogra_essentialz, have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting it has an example23:27
OrokuSakiso I merge the 2 lib folders with ubuntu libs over writing the jellybean ones23:27
OrokuSakiso there is a .so file I lack after I build23:28
OrokuSakianyone know why?23:28
OrokuSaki=)23:28
essentialzogra_: im there, let me see, i hadnt seen one23:28
essentialzok23:28
essentialzi see23:28
essentialzali1234: where do i specify remote and branch... i want to use cm10.1 branch23:31
essentialzcm-10.1*23:31
ogra_xnox, congrats, you just won the ureadahead  maintainer hat ! *g*23:32
ogra_(how did i know you would pick it up ... )23:33
essentialzdo i just add "-b cm-10.1" to the end of "CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_ville"23:33
RobbyFman these daily builds become more snappy and such23:34
ogra_make your line just look like in the example23:34
essentialzogra_: ok...thanks, I thought it was two seperate things you and ali1234 were mentioning23:34
essentialz<project path="kernel/HTC/ville" name="CyanogenMod/android_kernel_htc_msm8960" remote="github" revision="refs/heads/cm-10.1"/>   <project path="device/HTC/ville" name="CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_ville" remote="github" revision="refs/heads/cm-10.1"/>23:37
essentialzok what about cm dependencies23:38
essentialzi see this in the cm dependencies... i notice one is for kernel. but also shows a device called msm8960-common23:40
essentialzhey sorry for all the questions... just want to try to get this right... I will try to continue with porting tut, if i run into anything ill let you know. thanks again23:43
