Kilosmorning all05:43
nuvolario/ mornings05:54
Symmetria*laugh* so, cloudflare (which carries 1/10th of the worlds net traffic)05:57
Symmetriadied yesterday05:57
nuvolari:o05:58
nuvolarithat might explain my slow intertwebs05:58
Symmetriaand all the articles about what happened are all focusing on the fact that they pushed a rule out that crashed all their routers... except... the articles are neglecting to say "you pushed a stupid rule that shouldn't be possible because your packet detection method is broke"05:58
inetprogood morning06:34
superflymorning inetpro06:41
Symmetriahahaha @ amazon getting into crap over selling highly offensive t-shirts06:44
Symmetriathe reality is though, I've seen far more offensive things than the shirts they were selling, but because they were more subtle and took half a brain to figure out what they were saying, no one screamed06:45
SquirmSymmetria: surely Amazon can sell what they want to?07:43
Squirmwalk into a shop like JayJays over here, there's some pretty funny stuff on those shirts07:44
mazalMorning everyone07:47
superflymorning mazal07:47
superflyand Squirm, jrgns, Vince-0 and ThatGraemeGuy :-)07:48
jrgnsmorning superfly, all07:48
jrgnsSquirm: are you guys talking about the carry on and rape t-shirts?07:48
ThatGraemeGuymorning :)07:49
SymmetriaSquirm you would think so07:57
Symmetriabut some people are way to sensitive07:57
Symmetrialike hahahhaa that anc mp who is pissed because zille made a fat joke about her07:58
Vince-0Haai08:07
Vince-0Hey Symmetria, did you see the Team GhostShell 'leader' interview on softpedia08:14
Symmetrianope? whats he had to say08:16
Vince-0http://news.softpedia.com/news/Exclusive-Interview-Team-GhostShell-Leader-Takes-a-Break-from-Hacking-333609.shtml08:18
Vince-0He's taking a break08:18
Symmetrialol probably a good thing, I have never agreed with TGS's tactics08:19
Vince-0chops08:21
magespawnmorning all08:49
Squirmjrgns: ok, Symmetria said they were offensive, but I never knew what they said. that is quite hectic09:09
jrgnsSquirm: yup. but the fact is that it wasn't Amazon, but a reseller, and that it was an algorithm that generated them. Pretty much - Keep call and [verb] on09:12
SquirmI see09:13
Squirmsupposedly scripted09:13
Squirm“Keep Calm and Rape a Lot” and “Keep Calm and Rape Them”.09:13
SquirmI mean, really09:13
jrgnshttp://boingboing.net/2013/03/02/how-an-algorithm-came-up-with.html09:14
Squirmthat's a good idea as well :P09:17
Squirmyou just need to remove the really offensive verbs09:17

Symmetriahttp://www.takealot.com/computers/computer-components/thermaltake-level-10-gt-gaming-chassis-extend-atx-full-tower,975598509:32
Symmetriathoughts on that thing?09:32
Symmetriathinking of getting me one09:32
tonberry352_looks silly to me09:37
Symmetriaheh, it has hotswap drive bays09:38
Symmetriawhich I like 09:38
confluencyAs some of the commenters point out, not all the possible combinations (which should logically be generated by suc an algorithm) are there, which suggests some degree of oversight.09:38
Symmetriaand its got extremely good cooling which I need09:38
confluencyMy response to anything like this is "show me the algorithm, or STFU". People like to blame all kinds of things on "computer error" even when it makes very little sense, seemingly hoping that most people don't know enough about computers to question the explanation.09:39
Symmetriaheh09:40
SymmetriaI cannot believe they print shirts09:40
Symmetriawith random sayings on them09:40
Symmetriawithout first checking what they print09:40
Symmetriabecause you print the wrong thing, you could have a costly mistake, that becomes stuff you throw away09:41
confluencyI'd call this a fauxpology, but I think the writer's English is just not very good: http://www.solidgoldbomb.com/pages/our-apology09:46
confluencyI had to lol at the algorithm "explanation" which basically seems to be "the cloud did it".  I guess they combined word fragments which commonly occur together in large samples of data, which could explain things like lack of gender symmetry.09:48
Symmetriaconsidering the amount of porn on the net, if that were the case they woulda been coming up with crap like "keep calm, and suck dick" 09:53
Symmetria;p09:53

ThatGraemeGuyhttp://www.turnitaround.co.za/news/news_article/1998/r140m-for-fstate-website-report-sanews10:10
ThatGraemeGuyI think it's time I learned wordpress :)10:11
tonberry352_yeah11:00
tonberry352_should be quite lucrative11:00
superflyWordPress "developers" totally boil my blood11:23
superflyI told our work not to get a WordPress site, they did, and now we're suffering for it11:23
Symmetria*laugh* you dont need to learn wordpress for it to be lucrative, you just need to be related to an anc member11:24
superflyWordPress is like the language it is written in... it makes wannabes think that they're for real11:24
Symmetriaor be willing to share the profits with one anyway11:24
Symmetria;p11:24
ThatGraemeGuyat R140m for a simple site like that, I'd happily agree to a split12:02
ThatGraemeGuyjust give me 10% of it :)12:03
tonberry352_I'd be happy with 0.5%12:03
SquirmThatGraemeGuy: I don't beleive that article12:09
Squirmbloody SA12:09
Squirmsomeone is pocketing a fair sum12:09
ThatGraemeGuyyeah, its sad12:09
magespawnR140 million for a website?12:28

GripenCan I give some background before I just jump in?13:16
Kilosyes please do Gripen13:17
GripenI'm an IT Service Manager for a non-profit organization  - and are looking into moving to Ubuntu for obvious reasons - free and efficient OS13:18
Gripen..but simple support issues are preventing its progress to implementation13:19
nuvolarihi oom Kilos o/13:20
Kiloslo nuvolari13:20
KilosGripen: state what support you need and the guys will help you out13:20
GripenWe use quite a lot of Brother Printers - Brother MFC 7440 N - cant get it to work with Ubuntu 12.0413:21
GripenThere seems to be a MFC 7450 N driver - which I tried to make use of - but failed. Followed the instructions on Brother's site for Linux as well. I used the CUPS wrapper, etc to manage it - it's a network printer so need to point to an IP. It picks up the printer and shows as online - but when you start printing, it just pops out a 100 blank pages..13:23
KilosGripen: just hang around and when one of the brains gets a break he will help you13:24
Kilosim a noob13:24
Gripenhe he - thanx - The Brain13:25
Kiloswhich release of ubuntu are you using ?13:27

griffin_Kilos AFK13:40
Symmetriaheh I love how takealot, you order something the first time, they take the money for the order and *THEN* ask for proof of ID 13:40
Symmetriasurely its a good idea to ask for the ID *before* you take someones money13:40
Symmetria;p13:40
Symmetrialol oh well, now gotta sit waiting a week for new case to arrive13:41
GripenI followed the process as per Youtube clip - and it used the same driver as on there - but then the printer does not respond at all13:42
griffin_Borther printers......13:42
GripenOh Brother...13:44
GripenOh Brother...13:44
Symmetriahttp://www.takealot.com/computers/computer-components/thermaltake-level-10-gt-gaming-chassis-extend-atx-full-tower,9755985 <=== new toy :)13:45
griffin_Gripen: Another thread that talks about the blank pages and a possible solutions can be found here as well: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=128374113:46
griffin_They indicated it could be a problem with the printer driver (from experiance even in windows I know this) and I think you should try a older or newer model driver so tes13:47
griffin_*test13:47
Gripenok - will try that.13:53
GripenThanx for all the help - will come back when I tried some tests13:54
