MoPacHello -- during an in -place update from quetzal to ringtail, my boot partition ran out of space when installing the 3.8 kernel (100mb not enough for two kernels at once...sigh).  It threw a bunch of errors and then had me restart a couple of times and seems unstable. 06:58
MoPacIs there an easy way for me to error-check and/or refresh the kernel files in my boot directory?06:59
MoPacdoing a manual install from cache search linux-image tells me I have the latest versoin, but I assume that didn't involve an integrity check06:59
geofftYou could run debsums on the linux-image-`uname -r` package. Or apt-get reinstall it. (You likely also want to run update-grub for good measure) 07:00
geofftThis is not a support channel, though. 07:00
MoPacAh, sorry about that.  I was directed by the second FAQ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/FAQ07:01
geofftOh, well, maybe it is. :) (I just started lurking here a few days ago 'cause I have some development things I want to work out with the kernel team) 07:02
geofft(I'm not part of the kernel team, I'm just a user) 07:03
MoPacI assume that I want the generic image and not the "extra" version?07:08
MoPacI seem to remember seeing the word extra during the update process07:08
MoPacOr would I need both, as some forum banter suggests?07:11
geofftI'm not sure what you need, but it's easy enough to see if you have it installed (or partly installed) already 07:12
geofftRun "dpkg -l" and the package name, and see if you get a line that starts with "ii" 07:12
MoPacI don't have it -- I think that may have been the error, actually -- that there wasn't enough room for the extra package07:13
MoPacMakes sense now.  But I'll clear it all out and add both07:13
MoPacthanks for your help07:13

geofftapw: does http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/ticket/1309 look like a correct summary of our discussion re OpenAFS? 18:08
geofftRelatedly, uh, ubuntu-kernel@l.u.c is _ridiculously_ high-traffic. Is there a list that just gets emails about new kernel versions in the PPA? 18:10
cyril_hi20:46
apwgeofft, that describes it pretty well indeed22:13
apwgeofft, not currently, but it might no be unreasonable to raise that on the list22:14
geofftOK, will do 22:14
geofftand thanks re confirming my writeup is correct 22:14
