=== kentb is now known as kentb-out [06:58] Hello -- during an in -place update from quetzal to ringtail, my boot partition ran out of space when installing the 3.8 kernel (100mb not enough for two kernels at once...sigh). It threw a bunch of errors and then had me restart a couple of times and seems unstable. [06:59] Is there an easy way for me to error-check and/or refresh the kernel files in my boot directory? [06:59] doing a manual install from cache search linux-image tells me I have the latest versoin, but I assume that didn't involve an integrity check [07:00] You could run debsums on the linux-image-`uname -r` package. Or apt-get reinstall it. (You likely also want to run update-grub for good measure) [07:00] This is not a support channel, though. [07:01] Ah, sorry about that. I was directed by the second FAQ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/FAQ [07:02] Oh, well, maybe it is. :) (I just started lurking here a few days ago 'cause I have some development things I want to work out with the kernel team) [07:03] (I'm not part of the kernel team, I'm just a user) [07:08] I assume that I want the generic image and not the "extra" version? [07:08] I seem to remember seeing the word extra during the update process [07:11] Or would I need both, as some forum banter suggests? [07:12] I'm not sure what you need, but it's easy enough to see if you have it installed (or partly installed) already [07:12] Run "dpkg -l" and the package name, and see if you get a line that starts with "ii" [07:13] I don't have it -- I think that may have been the error, actually -- that there wasn't enough room for the extra package [07:13] Makes sense now. But I'll clear it all out and add both [07:13] thanks for your help === benlu is now known as exogen [18:08] apw: does http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/ticket/1309 look like a correct summary of our discussion re OpenAFS? [18:10] Relatedly, uh, ubuntu-kernel@l.u.c is _ridiculously_ high-traffic. Is there a list that just gets emails about new kernel versions in the PPA? [20:46] hi [22:13] geofft, that describes it pretty well indeed [22:14] geofft, not currently, but it might no be unreasonable to raise that on the list [22:14] OK, will do [22:14] and thanks re confirming my writeup is correct
