=== arrrghhhAWAY is now known as arrrghhh [00:26] I installed Dancer-IRCD and am having an issue with my self getting OP === hatake is now known as rhyda [03:20] hi good people, any one used to a 10.04 server install? I've got an issue with letting it know dns-nameservers entry [03:44] phillw: Why are you installing 10.04? 12.04 is generally a better bet. [03:45] It's pretty standard entry in /etc/network/interfaces though. [03:47] ScottK: hello again, are you following me around? :D. Let me explain... a member of the -release team has asked that I test a 10.04 virgin install and update it all the way to 13.04. He is expecting a LOT of errors on the way. [03:48] I see. [03:48] That's a good reason to install 10.04. [03:48] that the newer system has resolve.conf automatically built is but one of these screaming problems [03:49] Yes. Personally I consider it a serious bug that it's included in the default install, but that's just me. [03:49] So what's your problem. [03:49] ? [03:49] at present, I do not know how to tell 10.04 about resolve.conf [03:50] as it is a static IpV4 address, I have the entry in /etc/network/interfaces [03:51] That would be normal for 10.04 wouldn't it? [03:51] as I'm used to resolve.conf building itself. It seems 10.04 does not build, nor know of that file [03:52] So you need to know the format of the file? [03:52] ScottK: I have never used 10.04 server, [03:53] ScottK: it actually builds in a different problem. I've manually put it into the interfaces file so it will be picked up once the system uses it. [03:53] but, that part of interfaces was never back ported to 10.04 [03:53] If you manually set the IP address during install and give it the information, it should have included it. [03:54] there is no resolve.conf file in 10.04 [03:54] Not needed. [03:54] I'm used to seeing it with the warning "do not update this file" [03:54] If you're trying to set up a 'pristine' 10.04, don't add it. [03:55] ScottK: how do I tell a virgin 10.04 where resolve.conf entry should be? [03:55] You don't. [03:55] It doesn't care. [03:55] Here's my /etc/network/interfaces on a server that doesn't use it: https://paste.debian.net/240583/ [03:55] ScottK: it does, it cannot 'talk' to the world [03:56] What does your /etc/network/interfaces look like? [03:57] ScottK: I'm on a slow link via ssh -X, there is a long lag! [03:57] OK. [03:59] Actually I need to run. [04:00] ScottK: I think, from memory, you solved it! [06:55] looking for nfs help [06:55] if anyone cares to troubleshoot [06:58] spacestationspaz: Its always better to just ask a question. Sometimes it can take hours for people to see it. [07:00] right [07:00] I don't think I'm ready to ask a specific question, I guess [07:00] I think I need to nuke and start over [07:05] spacestationspaz: its the only way to be sure [07:06] nuking? [07:07] yeah, preferrably from orbit [07:07] or with an emp [07:07] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s1MspmfEwg [07:09] nicely done [07:55] hey guys what kerberos 5 package can i find krb5_sendauth [08:05] are there any tools that can sit on the server and monitor suspicious acktivity/attacks and then shoot you an email about them? [08:07] attack/intrusion detection tools? [08:59] !test [08:59] Testing... Testing... 1. 2.. 3... ( by the way, remember that you can use /join #test ) [08:59] Myrtti: Error: "test" is not a valid command. [08:59] Myrtti: Error: "test" is not a valid command. [09:51] are there any IRC services pacjkage in ubuntu 12.04 LTS standard repos... couldn't find any... [09:51] ? [13:04] Hey all, thanks for any help in advance, I've got something giving me a load of >1 on a single cpu server and I cant figure out what it is using top and atop :-s [13:06] heh? [13:09] Captain-n00dle: probably some process stuck in D state [13:09] Captain-n00dle: load != cpu usage [13:09] Okay thanks [13:10] Captain-n00dle: pastebin ps fax [13:10] (or the output of that command :P) [13:11] Any useful tools that I could use to figure out what it is? [15:03] hi guys, just chasing a couple of tips. im thinking of setting my main PC at home up as a server. The main reasons for wanting to do this are (1)monitor exactly what Internet traffic is going in and out (including keeping track of website and browser history of all machines o the network) (2)network shares (which i want to access remotely) (3)media server. I'm not sure i want to go the whole hog [15:03] though and use Ubuntu server though as I'm not sure I'm 100% confident in my abilities to manage everything from the CLI. Also because as i said, this is the main PC that i use at home. [15:11] anyone? :) [15:32] Lee-C: don't make your primary computer a server [15:33] Lee-C: You can buy little servers that can do all you want for just a few hundred dollars. [15:33] Lee-C: also, check out Zentyal if you want to use a web interface to manage a server [15:36] SpamapS: thanks for that. You wouldn't be able to point me in the direction of where i could look at some information on one of these servers by any chance? [15:37] Lee-C: google "HP Microserver" [15:37] SpamapS: sorry, im looking at Zentyal now. [15:38] SpamapS: cheers will take a look. [18:18] hi guys! Ive got a problem. I have installed ubuntu server but I cannot ssh to it. When I am prompt with the password, it denys me the access. Why?? :-/ [19:20] great, I'm getting a GPG error on apt-updates [19:20] more like: W: GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com precise Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key [19:20] this ubuntu server install was deboostrapped from a debain 6 box [19:21] TriJetScud: Wait ten minutes. Try again. If it still happens, then you may have a real issue. [19:22] well not to mention that I'm chrooted into the ubuntu server image right now [19:23] Sometimes things get out of sync when an update is published. [19:23] Usuaaly it doesn't last long. [19:24] heh [19:25] it's the first time I've seen this problem inside ubuntu [19:25] and if you're going to ask why I refuse to install from ISO, there's a reason why [19:27] No. Actually I wasn't. [21:51] http://twixzo.de/spiel.php?id=22248 === log0ut is now known as Guest26272 [22:53] hi guys! Do you know any software to monitor what users in the network do ? What website do they surf and for how long?
