popeyredtape-renegade: oh, that's status.net? never seen it themed14:40
popeyredtape-renegade: also, it's not a problem being offtopic, it's just you often post seemingly random URLs with no context so I have a hard time knowing why14:46

redtape-renegadeOH Man I just trashed my system .. I ran all the commands on this page for pdnsd [2nd one down].. but I have no internet now .. http://askubuntu.com/questions/22750/best-way-to-set-up-dns-caching15:36
shaunomost likely your internet is fine, you just have no name resolution.  just put your dns settings back to normal (usually your routers address, or 8.8.8.8, or if you happen to remember what your isp provides ..)15:38
shaunoand don't point it to localhost until "dig google.com @127.0.0.1" works15:39
redtape-renegadeok .. I willcheck hangon.. shauno15:40
shauno(also, most references to resolv.conf there look outdated, change that through networkmanager, else you'll get in a fight with resolvconf now)15:48
redtape-renegadeshauno, No, I'm comletely shafted. I dont know any of my router ip address's or anything... Also network manager is not good with my flavour.15:58
shaunoyou can usually get away with using 8.8.8.8 (a public server google provide)15:58
redtape-renegadeI gonna have start from scratch all over again ... complete reinstall.. I'll just have to try Xubuntu this time :(16:03
redtape-renegade.. I just never got Xubuntu to work with my monitor to resize the screen.. for an external VGA monitor .. guess that's my first quest to find out.16:05

nucc1i bought an app from ubuntu software centre today, given that I do a clean install every 6 months, will i still be abl to install the app for free next time?20:41
popeyyes20:41
nucc1awesome :)20:41
popeyits tied to your ubuntu one single sign on thingy20:41
popeythere is an option in software centre to reinstall purchases i think?20:41
nucc1cool, i figured they'd have thought of that, but i needed to be sure20:42
popeythe only gotcha..20:43
popeyits possible the app is built for 12.04 or 12.10, and may not have its packaging updated for 13.04 and beyond20:43
popeybut you can certainly download and try20:43
nucc1yea, i guess that much20:43
nucc1that's fair enough, IMO20:43
AzelphurAnyone recommend a cheap little DD-WRT capable router for small events?21:22

czajkowskigrr on start up keep getting this crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/104179021:41
lubotu3Ubuntu bug 1041790 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "[snb] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001, workaround i915.semaphores=0" [High,Triaged]21:41
popeyAzelphur: WNDR 370021:42
popeyczajkowski: welcome to the club21:42
Azelphurkinda pricey21:42
popeyuse the workaround21:42
Azelphurit's really only for 5-10 people to connect to in a small area21:42
popeyi have two, one running dd-wrt next to my desk, one running open-wrt under the bed :D21:43
Azelphurhehe21:43
Azelphurpopey: is openwrt significantly better than dd-wrt?21:43
czajkowskiahhh21:44
popeydepends what your requirement is21:44
czajkowskiBigRedS: ello :)21:44
popeydd-wrt = easier admin21:44
popeyopen-wrt = more flexible21:44
popeye.g. open-wrt does bringing pretty easily, dd-wrt does not21:44
Azelphurbridging?21:44
popeyopen-wrt can be controlled in the same way as many other linux boxes from the command line21:44
popeyyeah, so lemme splain21:44
Azelphuryea, I mean I'd mostly be interested in all the features that dd-wrt doesn't have unless you pay them21:45
Azelphurlike bandwidth stats21:45
czajkowskigot to hear about http://www.stemnet.org.uk/content/ambassadors21:45
czajkowskicould be interesting to folks in here21:45
popeyinternet -> cable modem (modem only mode) -> dd-wrt (doing dhcp etc) -> network cable -> open-wrt (bridged)21:45
popeyopen-wrt doesn't do dhcp, it bridges the network so i get my ip from the dd-wrt router21:45
Azelphurfor a bridge, don't you just turn off DHCP?21:48
Azelphurthat's all I do21:48
* popey shrugs21:49
popey21:49
Azelphurhehe21:49
AzelphurI want to try out trine 2 but their demo is broken :<21:50

redtape-renegadeebay.co.uk bid's system is a mess now .. looks more like I'm shopping at penny's or something. The attraction of getting something on the cheap at the heart of the old site has been completely torn out.23:06
redtape-renegade.. and it's rigged with step-bids that go up £3 a time after twenty quid. Could 've bought the site for 750million in 2009.. they should've asked me last week .. & I'd have cut the redtape all over it.23:09
redtape-renegade.. bye for now..23:09
