goodtimeyou can install the ubuntu software center nova_ and you might be able to update it that way02:50
goodtimelook in muon software center nova_02:50
goodtimeinstall it and apt-get update then might work02:52
nova_thanks.  I'm really looking to fix muon rather than install an alternative though.  I'm tempted to just reinstall it but I don't know if that would be problematic.02:52

SyriaHello there, In the downloads page of firefox when I click on the installed filed in order I get a message telling to choose which program should run this file, Usually an mp3 file will be played by the media player automatically.07:27
test Hi there, I updated from Quantal to Raring and I can't log into KDE anmyore. It just crashes xserver07:29
valorietest, but you are able to log into ubuntu?07:44
testvalorie: I don't have gnome installed07:44
valorieso you are reporting via another computer07:45
valoriejust trying to clarify is all07:45
testyes, I do07:45
valorieSyria: depends; you may lack the necessary codec07:46
Syriavalorie:  My system is up to date.07:46
valorieoops, I mean: you can set that in your FF settings07:46
Syriavalorie:  I mean that I always install the latest updates.07:46
testSyria: mp3 is a proprietary codec that doesn't come included by default07:46
valoriesorry, was responding to a question you didn't ask07:47
valorieSyria: do you have "kubuntu-restricted-extras" installed?07:47
valoriethat usually pulls in all necessary codecs07:47
valoriethey can't be included be default because of some proprietary laws07:48
valorie(stupid ones IMO....._07:48
valorie)07:48
Syriavalorie:  Mp3 files are just an example, I get the same problem with any file that I try to launch, doc files for example.07:48
testcopyright law... nor prorietary laws :)07:48
SyriaYes kubuntu-restricted-extras are installed anyway.07:49
valoriewell, once you set that, you can click "always use this for this type of file"07:49
valorieand it won't ask you again07:49
valoriebut yes, I've always found that annoying in FF07:49
valorieit's been doing that for years, even in Windows07:49
valorieback in the Dark Ages when I used win07:50
Syriavalorie: The problem is that all types of files will be launched in the program that I have choosen, In my case Genview.07:50
valorieas I said, you can set that in advance then07:50
SyriaHow can I do this ?07:51
valorieEdit > Preferences07:52
Syriavalorie:  In the application tab right? But I don't see all the formats that I usually download, DEB packages for example.07:54
valoriehow would FF do anything with Deb packages?07:54
valoriebeyond putting them in the folder you designate07:54
Syriavalorie: Launch it using the package installer? Also I can't find PDF or DOC formats07:55
valoriewell, if you are loading FF modules, that should be handled elsewhere, through their own browser for add-ons, etc.07:57
valoriehmm, maybe FF finally has a built-in pdf reader07:57
valoriedunno07:57
valorieI'm going more and more to chromium these days07:57
valoriewhile continuing to try out Konqueror and Rekonq of course07:58
valorie:-)07:58
SyriaUsing chrome would solve the problem, But I am more comfortable with FF dunno why.07:58
valorieI was with ya until recently07:58
valorieand I've used it as my primary browser since browsers began07:59

Linusnewbhi all11:00
lordievaderHello Linusnewb, how are you?11:00
Linusnewbfine thanks lordievader and you11:01
lordievaderLinusnewb: Doing good, trying to solve a mysql+bash problem.11:01
LinusnewbI have a little prob with my internet connection11:01
lordievaderLinusnewb: Could you give some details? Perhaps we can help ;)11:03
LinusnewbI have test some dns servers and changed /etc resolv.conf then /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf /etc/dhcp3/dhcclient.conf the lst hast not aconf fie so I copied :D11:04
Linusnewbnow my internet connection is not working anymore11:05
lordievaderLinusnewb: Most of those files are dynamically generated, why don't you use the network manager?11:05
LinusnewbI have googled and there was some documantation about resolv.conf and dhcclient11:06
LinusnewbI have wrote the orginal back but network manager says it's connected but still it is not11:07
Linusnewbhow can I fix this yet11:07
lordievaderLinusnewb: Do you get a reply if you run the command "nslookup google.com"?11:08
LinusnewbI don't know I'm here yet via livecd online11:10
lordievaderLinusnewb: And you are connected using only DHCP?11:10
Linusnewbis a laptop and I don't have a 2nd OS on it11:10
LinusnewbI am connected with network-manager but don't know how11:11
lordievaderLinusnewb: Hmm, if you didn't change anything it's DHCP. So why do you want/need to change those settings?11:15
LinusnewbI have wrote in google to change dns server cause some sites in my country is under restrict11:16
lordievaderLinusnewb: Then you should change the dns settings in the network manager.11:17
Linusnewband on google I have read that networkmanager don't use dns server as defalt only as second server11:17
lordievaderLinusnewb: I don't know where you read that, but the network manager works fine for dns-overrides.11:18
Linusnewbso I have set it as first but I have wrote the same ans take # that as argument11:18
lordievaderLinusnewb: Do you know how to change the dns in the network manager?11:18
Linusnewbon gui yes11:19
Linusnewbmange connections11:19
Linusnewbwhat can I do now to get an internet connection on my system on hd?11:22
lordievaderLinusnewb: In this screenshot you change the Method to 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only' and then you fill in your dns settings: http://imagebin.org/25049411:24
=== pjoe_afk is now known as pjoe
Linusnewblordievader it is on automatic dhcp on gui I've seen internet connection but is still not working Im not be able to connect google or e-mails or something else11:26
lordievaderLinusnewb: There is a difference between 'Automatic (DHCP)' and 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only', the second allow you to specify your own dns.11:29
Linusnewbhmm ok I taste it do you have another tip for me yet any console essages what I can look for?11:31
lordievaderLinusnewb: The nslookup is quite usefull for dns problems.11:33
Linusnewbok thanks but I'm still thinking is not a dns prob maybe a bug cause I have changed resolv.conf and dhcclient.conf and destroy any automatic on it11:36
lordievaderLinusnewb: I told you (the file also tells you), to not edit the resolv.conf file because it will be generated automatically. This is not a bug.11:38
Linusnewbok I restart and test  it I'll be back in 5 minutes11:42

xixorHowdy y'all.  Just did an update, and it seems to be stuck doing: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.5.0-26-generic.  I've tried a sudo dpkg --configure -a, but it stays stuck at the same process.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I don't want to leave this box in an unbootable state16:26
=== apie is now known as apie1
DarthFrogxixor:  It's unlikely that it'll be unbootable.  You should be able to select an older kernel to boot at the GRUB screen.16:38
=== ubuntu is now known as Guest20950
mandoguitxixor:   if you have a static sized /boot check to make sure there is enough space to process new kernels.   If you have several older kernels stilled installed, you can free up space by deleting them (via Synaptic)....  just leave the one kernel installed previously and the one that you are currently using.16:41
amingvxixor: 'sudo update-initramfs -u -v' might help you see where it's getting stuck, too.16:41
CritenHey Guys! I upgraded to 13.04 a few months ago and my wifi hasn't been working since then. is this a known problem? My friend said he had to do something to get it working but I can't figure it out16:45
CritenI can see wireless networks but it won't connect to anything16:45
DarthFrogCriten:  Support for 13.04 is in #ubuntu+116:46
=== Guest61073 is now known as HollowMan
CritenThanks DarthFrog16:46
xixoramingv: sudo update-initramfs -u -v  seemed to run fine16:46
xixormandoguit: I'm not sure if my /boot is a static size or not.  df -h doesn't suggest that I have a separate /boot partition16:47
HollowManmy kubuntu constantly freezes :\ dont know what to do16:47
DarthFrogxixor: Then you should be OK.  Does the correct initrd.img file exist in /boot for the new kernel?16:47
DarthFrogxixor: then is your root partition full?16:47
DarthFrogHollowMan:  Does it run OK from LiveCD?16:48
mandoguitxixor:  doesn't sound like the /boot size is the problem then16:48
xixorDarthFrog: yes, I think the initrd image is there, root has lots of space16:48
DarthFrogxixor:  Then /boot has lots of space.16:48
DarthFrogxixor:  Sounds like you're good to go.16:49
HollowManDarthFrog: no, I installed it from a USB stick, and it froze during the installation16:49
xixoryeah... strange.  It looks like running update-initramfs on it's own outside of the dpkg-configure process was what got it working16:49
DarthFrogHollowMan:  Did you verify that your boot image installed correctly on the USB stick?16:49
HollowManDarthFrog: i tried to reinstall it, and it went fine, but now it keeps freezing for now reason16:49
HollowMan*no reason16:50
DarthFrogHollowMan:  What video card do you have?16:50

xixorDarthFrog, mandoguit, amingv : thanks for the help, seems to be cleared up16:50
DarthFrogHollowMan:  Which video drivers are you using?16:51
mandoguitxixor:  good to hear :)16:51
HollowManDarthFrog: the default ones from the installation16:51
DarthFrogHollowMan:  Those will be the nouveau drivers.  You could try installing the proprietary nvidia drivers or reverting to VESA, to see if that resolves the issue.16:52
HollowManDarthFrog: i will try that, thanks for your help16:52
amingvxixor: cool :)16:52
DarthFrogHollowMan:  "sudo jockey-kde" will help you with the nvidia driver installation.  Don't forget to run nvidia-xconfig after installation before rebooting.16:53

krabadorlordievader, to load reconq from installation process, not in "try"22:17
lordievaderkrabador: I beg to differ. The release notes are opened in rekonq. Probably if you go to the tty set your screen variable and then launch rekonq it will work too.22:18
murthykrabador: are you there>22:34
krabadormurthy, yes, tell me all22:35
murthykrabador:  press ctrl+alt+f1, the screen will change to a tty there try running "DISPLAY=:0 rekonq"22:36
krabadormurthy, great22:37
murthykrabador:  to switch back press ctrl+alt+f7, if that doesn't work try ctrl+alt+f822:37
