[00:19] sarnold: Thanks for replying to my question earlier, and sorry for the "." line separators in my description. [03:56] don't think so. [03:56] * TheLordOfTime runs two EC2 instances with Ubuntu on them *shrugs* [10:28] sunuslee [10:28] 6:11 [10:28] hi, is anyone there to help me debugging a network problem? i have three servers(A,B,C) in a subnet. A,C can ping to EACH OTHER. but neither of them can ping to b. then i check the arp table. A got the correct hwaddr of b. but b got the incomplete of A. [10:28] 6:11 [10:28] A, B has dual nics. but i think i set up right. eth0 in a subnet, eth1 in another. [10:28] 6:12 [10:28] A send arping to b can not get reply. but B send arping to a can get reply. but it seems like B didn't received it. [10:28] 6:13 [10:29] anyone? [12:06] hi guys, i use bonding on our servers, but one server sets its link up for eth1 only with 100mbps. its an intel dualport 1000 nic, so why he does it? switch is on 1gbps [12:13] elemay2: does it use gigabit without bonding? and what sort of bonding is this? [12:14] RoyK: yep it uses gbit without. bond-mode 802.3ad [12:15] using LACP really shouldn't change the link speed [12:16] i have set this bond-lacp-rate 1 [12:16] i have the exact same setup on another server, there it works [12:16] what does dmesg output say about links speed? [12:21] RoyK: e1000e: eth1 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: Rx/Tx e1000e 0000:01:00.1: eth1: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO bonding: bond0: link status definitely up for interface eth1, 100 Mbps full duplex. [12:28] wierd [12:28] no idea, sorry [12:29] and it comes up with gigabit without LACP? [12:29] same switch type? [12:30] yep. same switch, same port. port speed is also set to automatic [12:30] what if you force both ends to gigabit? really shouldn't be needed, though === alamar is now known as a === a is now known as alamar [13:18] RoyK: i just tried it on another switch, same manufacturer. if i enable bonding in ubuntu i get an ip, all is well. as soon as i setup LAG on the switch, i can't reach some ip's in my network, also i have the same symptons on the other switch. eth0 = 1gbps, eth1 = 100mbps [13:20] elemay2: I haven't setup LACP from linux for some time, but last I did it (two years back?) it worked well and gave me full speed [13:20] also it doesn't matter if i use 2 separate intel nics, or the dual port one. or one from netgear and one from intel and so on. exactly the same setup on my other machine. bonding set up, switch set up. all is fine. [13:21] a dual-port is just two nics on a single board [13:21] RoyK: i wanted to say that it can't be the nics ;) [13:21] that's highly unlikely anyway [13:21] if it works without LACP, it's software [13:22] which distro/kernel?? [13:22] but i don't get it why. other machine is almost the same. same ubuntu version. 12.04 x64 3.2.0-38-generic [13:23] 3.2 on the other as well? 12.04.2 comes with 3.5 [13:23] (for some moronic reason, they changed the kernel version on .2) [13:24] yep 3.2. i don't do dist-upgrades [13:24] dist-upgrade won't upgrade the kernel [13:24] * RoyK always uses dist-upgrade [13:25] i could try to upgrade kernel. but it works on the other machine... strange [13:26] same machine make? [13:27] can you try the same switchports the other machine is using? [13:27] yup, i'll try [13:28] takes a moment, i have to shutdown it first [16:37] seems something may be broken in the bridging [16:39] just upgraded my precise box and bridging works now and then [16:39] works fine from localhost to vm's, but not always from remote === cwillu_also_at_w is now known as cwillu_at_work === nonotza_ is now known as nonotza [20:30] I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server edition and I notice that two packages are being held back, linux-headers-generic-lts-quantal and linux-image-generic-lts-quantal. I did not explicilty set this packages to be held back and I am wondering what caused them to be held back automatically. Any insight would be appreciated! [20:30] brian_petersen: Running apt-get upgrade? Will apt-get dist-upgrade want to upgrade those packages? [20:31] brian_petersen: The difference is that apt-get upgrade won't upgrade packages which require new depencies to be installed, and those packages are meta packages depending to the newest such kernel package. [20:32] andol: ah, I see. That's a little different that what I am used to. I'm coming from Arch's pacman and they didn't have that distinction. Thanks! [20:33] So right now it's downloading a new kernel version, that means that I will have multiple kernels installed now, correct? [20:34] Yepp [20:34] how would you recommend cleaning up older kernel versions? I've installed roundcube but it doesn't have this feature, squirrelmail doesn't seem to have also, and horde is impossible to install [22:31] why is horde impossible to install? [22:35] patdk-lap: i couldn't find a way to install it [22:35] and I don't think it supports multiple accounts also [22:35] well there is a ubuntu package, but I never liked it [22:36] it doesn't [22:36] just use something like dovecot that supports shared and/or master accounts [22:37] it's not my local machine, i don't think i can install it [22:37] roundcube has a paid plugin [22:40] it seems no such software exists. [23:19] histo: like any desktop email cliente, you can 'manage' multiple emails at once.
