Fuzzy_WuzzyHi! I tried both kubuntu 12.04 and 12.10, and I do like the improvements to dolphin and software center, but I also like the... LTS-ness of 12.04. So, why doesn't dolphin and other stuff, in 12.04, get updated to the new versions used by 12.10? And if I update them myself, will I lose out on any of said LTS-ness? I am slightly lost :)09:45

lordievaderHey xixor13:12
westmi Had to install updates today.I schedule them to happen every 2 weeks.so, as usual, adobe wants extra password to update.I grabbed the keyboard, looked at the screen to start typing, and I get a message, saying I did not get to it fast enough, and it will be reported.I instaintly wanted ti kill.13:34
westmi<westmi> to kill13:34
westminow I got no flash13:35
lordievaderwestmi: Since when does flashplugin-installer require an additional password?13:38
westmiidk how long this has been going on13:43
lordievaderwestmi: It was a bit of sarcasm... The package flasplugin-installer should not ask for a password. Do you have some system-policy or something?13:45
westmiheh13:45
lordievaderwestmi: How are you installing/updating anyway?13:46
westmiI installed kubuntu about 2 months ago, and since then it has asked me every time updates come in, once for the update, then one again for flash13:46
lordievaderMuon?13:47
westmiI schedule the updates every 2 weeks13:47
westmiI'm really frustrated.everything worked properly before the update, and since some message says I did not put the password in fast enough, I got no flash.13:49
westmithis aint right13:49
lordievaderwestmi: What ain't right is that the flash updates asks for the password again, what updater are you using?13:49
westmikubuntu13:50
westmithe one that comes with kubuntu13:50
lordievaderwestmi: That is the distro, are you using Muon or apt-get or something to update your system?13:51

krabadorcan i resize and create partition, on the partition editor during kubuntu installation?13:52
lordievaderkrabador: Yes, you can ;)13:52
westmiyep, it asked for a password again, and then it did it (i assume, cause it looks like it did)13:54
westmiapt-get update13:54
westmiI did not do apt get upgrade13:55
clesioo13:56
lordievaderwestmi: It asked once or twice?13:56
westmionce13:56
lordievaderwestmi: That is normal, for the sudo you need a password.13:57
westmiyep13:57
westmidoesn't tell me why flash is *&^%$ up13:57
westmiso how do I re install flash?13:58
lordievaderwestmi: No, it doesn't.. strange. Not sure if it will work but you might remove flash and reinstall it again.13:58
lordievaderwestmi: It might be simply the flashplugin-installer package, but that might just as well be a meta package.14:00
westmiwell, it is all fishy...I would see a notice to install updates, and I would click on the icon in the bottom bar, to install. It would ask for a pass, I would then provide it.14:00
lordievaderwestmi: Again, does it ask once or twice?14:01
westmiIt started downloading, then installing. Then it will ask for my pass again14:01
westmiand that was when I did not provide it fast enough, and now no flash14:02
lordievaderwestmi: So before downloading it asks for your password and before installing?14:02
OerHeksthat is correct, once for downloading, and once for install. typing your pass does depend on time14:02
westmiit asked for it before downloading, and then again while installing14:02
westminot before installing, during the install14:03
westmiseems to be the adobe update14:04
cojacksome one know any repo that I can update qt up to 4.8.4?14:04
westmihad a list of updates, because I scheduled the updates to go every 2 weeks14:04
lordievaderOerHeks: Doesn't Muon just issue apt-get upgrade? <- only asks once for the password.14:05
westmiI'm pretty sure it asked for the password again when it was on the flash updae14:06
westmi*update14:06
westmiwhen I did not provide the pass fast enough, it gave me a silly message that I wan't fast enough, and it would be reported14:09

e_t_ed23467654: LibreOffice 4 is available upstream, but it hasn't been added to the Ubuntu repos yet. Wait for 13.04 and it'll be there. Or you could look for a PPA. If you did the manual install, it's put in a different install path which I don't recall, but it doesn't replace the system-installed version.14:18

murthyBluesKaj: i have removed my nvidia card due to the cold boot issues and now because of that high cpu usage when playing videos. My cpu is p4 ht and the internal gpu is intel gma x4500, my cpu is around 50% when playing 1080p videos18:13
murthyBluesKaj: i think i have installed the necessary drivers18:13
murthyBluesKaj: am i missing something or its the default cpu usage that we can expect from the internal gpu?18:14
So1arisHi, can somebody assist me with an issue I'm having with Thunderbird in Kubuntu? (I'm also in mozilla's thunderbird channel waiting for a respose)18:15
DarthFrogmurthy:  The nvidia card would have provided VDPAU if you were using the proprietary nvidia drivers, which would have off-loaded much of the processing from the CPU to the GPU.   1080p would require quite a bit of processing power without it.18:16
BluesKajmurthy, in a word , yes , onboard gpus don't have much dedicated memory so the cpu load can become quite high , but 50% is actually quite good for HD video18:16
murthyDarthFrog:  ya the nvidia card is performing well but i have cold boot issues with it. BluesKaj, thats sad, i think o got fooled by the specs that said it can play 720p, never thought it will be like this18:18
BluesKajNvidia cards have a setting , for taking more of the load than the default setting , maximum performance in the power mizer optiom ,but it doesn't hold on a reboot18:18
murthyBluesKaj: is there way to make grub reboot automatically to get a warmboot?18:19
So1arisDoes anybody else here use Mozilla Thunderbird?18:19
murthySo1aris: I don't use thunderbird but i can try to help if you say the problem18:20
BluesKajmurthy, if by choosing a reboot in the leave dialog , then yes, I guess that's warm boot ..not sure what you mean otherwise18:21
So1arismurthy: Well, I'm trying to add a second account in thunderbird. The problem is that (and this has only occurred in Kubuntu so far), when I go into my account manager, and press the "Account Actions" button, it should give me options to add an account.18:21
So1arisBut something is wrong. The button seems to be dead18:21
So1arisI click on it, and it doesn't do anything.18:22

DarthFrogmurthy:  You're being not clear at all.18:27
So1arisokay, well it seems to be fine now. if anyone else has this same issue, my guess is that it was probably gtk or something.18:28

murthyDarthFrog: my gpu works only in a warm boot, tell me a solution by using grub18:29
BluesKajI think grub must be set to 0 secs timeout18:29
jEhrichsSo1aris: works like a charm here18:29
murthyBluesKaj: it is18:30
DarthFrogmurthy:  Press CTL-ALT-Del.18:30
murthyDarthFrog: i want to automate that18:30
BluesKajmuthy then set it to greater than 018:30
BluesKajmurthy,^18:30
DarthFrogmurthy:  How is GRUB supposed to know how it was invoked?18:31
DarthFrogmurthy: If you could automate it, you'd just go into a perpetual cycle of rebooting.18:32
murthyBluesKaj: the current settings for the grub is it doesn't have the timeout value so it stays till i select the operating system, so since my gpu doesn't work in cool boot, when i start my computer in the morning the screen is balck but the grub is running which i can't see and i just blindly press ctrl+alt+del to restart to get a warm boot and i see the grub18:33
DarthFrogKind of like setting your default runlevel to 6. :-)18:33
So1arisFor me, when I hear skype's notifications, it's really distorted for some reason. Any reason this could be?18:33
murthyDarthFrog: i think i saw somewhere that there is a way linux can provide the cold/warm boot info18:34
BluesKajmurthy, set this line to the number of secs that grub will appear, GRUB_TIMEOUT=X (number)18:34
DarthFrogmurthy:  Have you checked your BIOS settings for video?18:34
DarthFrogmurthy:  But if you don't boot into Linux, how can it provide the info?18:35
DarthFrogor is it something flagged at shutdown?18:35
murthyDarthFrog: ya, BluesKaj, that will be more a headache, since it will boot automatically to the default os after the set timeout18:35
murthyDarthFrog: sorry, i mean grub has a way to identifying the boot type?18:36
BluesKajmurthy, ok one question , do you see grub ?18:36
murthyBluesKaj: ya18:37
murthyoops18:37
murthyBluesKaj: wait18:37
murthyBluesKaj: for the first time?18:37
DarthFrogmurthy: Personally, if it isn't an improper BIOS setting, I wouldn't find having to press CTL-ALT-Del much of a chore.  Mind you, I also only shut off my computer when I'm going out of town. :-)18:37
BluesKajok, I assumed from your questions that grub didn't appear , sorry18:37
murthyBluesKaj: for the first time, no , after reboot , yes18:37
BluesKajthen your bios is still set to the pci card that removed, murthy18:38
murthyDarthFrog: but i dont have a choice, the power suppy here is worst 2 hrs of power cut everyday18:38
murthyBluesKaj: no it is set to "use internal gpu when no pcie is detected"18:39
DarthFrogmurthy:  Where is here?   And do you mean the power company cuts off power?18:39
murthyDarthFrog: yep , India18:39
DarthFrogSeriously not fun!18:40
BluesKajyes, that's common in the sub continent, including sri lanka18:40
murthyDarthFrog: its like going into child birth daily18:40
DarthFrogThat must screw up a lot of folks file systems.18:41
murthyDarthFrog:  no ups adds to that fun18:41
DarthFrogI'll bet.18:41
murthyBluesKaj: its been like this for the past 2 yrs18:42
DarthFrogIs the power shut-off predictable?18:42
BluesKajUPSs are pricey tho18:42
murthyDarthFrog: ya, scheduled18:42
murthyBluesKaj: very much priced and lot of duplicates18:42
DarthFrogBluesKaj:  In murthy's case, it sounds like a necessity.18:42

solaris_so, I'm running apps in wine, and I want to change the wine window theme. But for some reason, it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to use the ubuntu Ambience theme in it. It's in the list and I switch to it, but all that happens is it flashes and then stays with the windows theme.20:02
lordievadersolaris_: Perhaps the people over in #winehq know?20:05
murthylordievader: me try?20:05

solaris_murthy: yes20:06
murthylordievader: thats very good, we have to abandon it and erase it20:07
