zequenceairlynx: Great. I'll get the source, and look at it. I can upload it for raring once I'm done00:00
zequence..to my own PPA, that is00:01
zequenceairlynx: btw, you could probably just download that package manually, and install it00:26
zequenceEven so, I've added it to this PPA ppa:zequence/testing00:26
zequencewaiting to build, currently00:26
airlynxzequence: is it available to install from your ppa?00:27
zequenceairlynx: It will be as soon as it has been build. It's in cue for building currently.00:28
zequenceIt's building now in fact00:28
zequenceShouldn't take too long00:28
zequencehttps://launchpad.net/~zequence/+archive/testing00:28
airlynxzequence: I manually downloaded the deb from autostatic's ppa and when I go to install it it wants me to remove jackd2, jackd2-firewire, laditools, libjack-jackd2-0, and python-laditools00:35
zequenceairlynx: hmm, let me have a look00:37
zequenceairlynx: I can't figure it out right now. Can't say I'm a total debian packaging wizard yet, so. The i386 version is built now. amd64 waiting in cue00:45
zequenceSeems like that package hasn't been updated for a couple of years thoug00:45
zequenceAnd I saw the patch had been submitted upstream00:46
zequenceAt this point I'd just like to verify that the patch works00:46
zequenceairlynx: So, if you could try the package in my PPA, and verify it works (once it's built), then i can go ahead and make sure it's updated upstream and have it synced to next Ubuntu release00:47
airlynxokay, I've added your ppa to my repositories, but don't see anything from it in synaptic yet00:48
studio-user305Whoaaa full people here :-)00:49
studio-user305hello00:50
airlynxzequence: I'll give it a little while, I've gotta go put the kids to bed, then I'll check again00:50
zequenceairlynx: I can ping you when the package is done building00:51
zequencestudio-user305: Hello there00:51

studio-user305ok :-) hello world ^^00:54
studio-user305small world :-)00:54
zequenceairlynx: I built the amd64 package locally, so if you want to try it http://ubuntuone.com/1dVSAoXvirhaXOufYC3giC01:29
zequenceairlynx: I'm going to sleep now, but if you get it working, please let men know01:29
airlynxzequence: thanks, I'll give it a shot now01:29
airlynxzequence, it installs fine and works okay, it connects to Jack via system:capture_1 & capture_2, however if I want to connect to playback_1 and 2 it is unable to connect, which I can sort of understand.  I'm going to continue to test it out and figure a workaround for what I want to do.  I also tested it with gtk-recordmydesktop and it works with that too.  Thanks a bunch!01:44
airlynxzequence, final note before I'm off to bed, I'm able to use Meterbridge to capture what I want, having strange issues with areas of the screen not being recorded but I assume that's a problem with recordmydesktop (I've tried turning on full shots at every frame and it makes no difference, not exactly sure whats going on with it but I don't think it's your problem anymore)02:22

senator_Hi all, anyone knows about lightwave 3d and how to install it in ubuntu studio?16:51
senator_Hi all, anyone knows about lightwave 3d and how to install it in ubuntu studio?17:02
zequencesenator_: Seems like they don't have a linux version17:19
zequencebut it might work under wine17:19
zequencehttp://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=33917:20
zequenceSeems like it in deed works under wine, but to what extent, I have no idea17:20
senator_zequence, exactly they dont have but I understand that it could be done thru Wine17:21
zequenceJust want to point out though, that Ubuntu Studio is all about free software17:21
senator_I understand that too and thats why I have been using ubuntu for about 5 years or more now, but as a 3d artist you gotta sometimes use what your project requires, I also use blender which is free and this plan for lightwave is just to know how it works using a 30 days free trial... zequence17:24
zequencesenator_: What you do is you install wine: sudo apt-get install wine17:25
senator_done17:25
zequenceThen, you look for instructions at appdb.winehq.org17:25
senator_jjust installed the latest 1.517:25
zequenceMany times you only need to install by using the windows installer, but some apps require some extra libs17:26
zequenceWhen that happens, winetricks comes in handy17:26
zequenceIt's a script, which you can start from the terminal, using: winetricks --gui17:26
zequencesenator_: There's not really any difference in installing wine on Ubuntu Studio compared to other distros17:29
senator_I see17:29
senator_will try it out and see what turns out17:30
zequenceFor heavy graphics, you might just want to make sure you have the graphic drivers you need. Intel are all open source, while AMD ATI and NVIDIA have both free and proprietary alternatives17:30
senator_how do i know the graphics driver i have.17:30
senator_on a laptop17:30
zequencesenator_: To find out which card you have, do: lspci17:34
zequencelspci | grep VGA17:35
zequence..should show only the graphic card17:35
zequenceThis should show which driver is in use: lsmod | grep video17:36
senator_zequence, lspci  grep VGA i got ''lspci | grep VG''17:37
senator_the video one gave me ''uvcvideo               71278  017:38
senator_videobuf2_core         32071  1 uvcvideo17:38
senator_videodev               95842  2 uvcvideo,videobuf2_core17:38
senator_videobuf2_vmalloc      12757  1 uvcvideo17:38
senator_videobuf2_memops       13213  1 videobuf2_vmalloc17:38
senator_video                  18895  1 i91517:38
zequencei915 looks like nvidia to me17:39
senator_zequence, lspci  grep VGA i got ''00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)17:40
senator_zequence,17:40
zequenceSorry, I meant Intel17:41
zequenceI have nvidia myself17:41
zequenceJust a typo17:41
zequenceYeah, so you have open source drivers. Intel has written those themselves17:42
senator_I see17:42
zequenceIntel is in fact one of the major contributors to the linux kernel the last 10-15 years. Not as large as the sum of "amateurs" writing linux code17:45
senator_so zequence how do i get the right drivers for it?17:48
zequencesenator_: There are no alternatives. If you're running a Linux kernel, you have Intel drivers17:55
zequenceThat's also why there's no fuzz at all with Intel. It just works17:55
senator_sweet17:56
senator_let me try install the lightwave and see how that goes...  I have found another pdf online about the installation process with wine17:56
senator_thanks for your help17:57
