czajkowskiwould anyone be able to share any light on why I do an update on Raring, it's breaking my virtual Box so I have to kick it each time via http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5624797/09:51
smbczajkowski, It looks like whatever vboxdrv does, it has broken or got out of sync with DKMS. Maybe if you re-create the initrd you get around it for now, but likely the next kernel update with a newer abi number breaks it again.10:06
czajkowskismb: yup as soon as update the setup each time I cna get the virtual box up and running, just kinda annoying 10:08
czajkowskias I left it wrking on Friday, do an update this morning and it's broken 10:09
smbPrimarily it should be dkms that re-compiles the kernel modules because that is triggered automatically when a new kernel is installed and also should update the initrd. So when dkms got broken in some way the experience won't be nice. But I do not use virtualbox that much, so I don't know the latest status there or how any scripts have changed.10:13
czajkowskismb: cheers10:13
tjaaltonhey, we need 20afbda209d708 from upstream to fix a regression with the i915 driver on stable series11:51
tjaaltonbug 1156310 and friends11:51
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156310 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "xrandr detects too many displays" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115631011:51
loolhappy to test a kernel for LP #115631012:01
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156310 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "xrandr detects too many displays" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115631012:01
tjaaltonI could build one12:01
loolhappy if you do  :-)12:02
loolI have a workaround12:02
looljust trying to speed up the inclusion of the speed in any way I can12:02
tjaaltonhuh, doesn't apply as-is12:06
=== mitya57_ is now known as mitya57
apwtjaalton, isn't that one in stable now ?14:08
tjaaltonapw: let me check14:09
tjaaltonapw: I don't see it there?14:11
apwtjaalton, i thought it saw it in 3.8.3 ... hmm14:16
tjaaltonno that's 52d7eceda which then needs this additional commit or gen4 is busted :)14:21
* ogasawara back in 2014:40
tjaaltonlool: ok, kernel built and available at http://people.canonical.com/~tjaalton/lool14:50
tjaaltonhope you have amd64 installed14:50
tjaaltoncan't reproduce the problem on my old laptop14:57
tjaaltonlool: new link http://people.canonical.com/~tjaalton/lp115631015:04
rsalvetiogasawara: guess we need to mark https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/foundations-1303-phablet-kernel-maintenance to a series15:19
rsalvetithe work would land for s-series, so I guess it should be fine to target to that15:19
rsalvetiand let the milestone to the one it's already assigned15:19
ogasawararsalveti: ack, will do15:20
rsalvetithings are kind of under discussion atm, as the series x milestone usage is still not clear for the touch based work items15:20
rsalvetibut guess that for it to show at status it needs at least a valid series15:20
rsalvetiogasawara: cool, thanks15:20
rtg_tjaalton, re: bug #1156310. Daniel Vetter is suggesting to revert a couple of 3.8.3 stable patches. Are they the root of lool's problems ?15:24
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156310 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "xrandr detects too many displays" [Undecided,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115631015:24
rtg_tjaalton, https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/3/18/18015:25
looltjaalton: just grabbed installed your kernels will reboot in a minute15:25
loolunless you tell me otherwise  :)15:25
tjaaltonyeah reverting makes sense15:25
rtg_tjaalton, ok, I'll push that out and upload today.15:26
tjaaltonthere's also 202adf4b9f5957 to fix bug 113566815:29
ubot2Launchpad bug 1135668 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) "Intel graphics fails when bringing monitor out of sleep" [Undecided,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/113566815:29
rtg_tjaalton, is that a different bug ?15:29
tjaaltonyes15:29
tjaaltonjust wondering if you could add that there :)15:30
rtg_tjaalton, I mean, is that bug the result of these 2 patches ?15:30
tjaaltonno, older, fixed in 3.9rc now15:30
tjaaltonfeel free to add it after the revert & upload15:30
tjaaltonno rush15:30
rtg_tjaalton, ack15:30
tjaaltonanother one, 21ad833075801a7 should fix bug 111658715:31
ubot2Launchpad bug 1116587 in linux (Ubuntu) "Lenovo T400: With external monitor the system is rarely working for more than 10 minutes" [Undecided,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/111658715:31
rtg_tjaalton, you're just full of patches today :)15:31
tjaaltonnah, just sick of my todo-list :)15:31
tjaaltonas it looks we're doing raring these became a bit more important15:33
rtg_it certainly does look like we're doing raring15:33
tjaaltonright..15:34
looltjaalton: Your kernel fixes the bug for me15:42
looltjaalton: xrandr output now correct and lightdm showing up in native res again15:43
loolrtg_: ^15:43
rtg_lool, ack15:43
tjaaltonlool: thanks for testing, but we'll revert the patches anyway15:44
looltjaalton: BTW system crashed this morning with Ubuntu -13; seemed to be possibly related to graphics15:45
loolas in, system hung after some heavy browser rendering15:45
looldidn't happen in months15:45
tjaaltoncould be the same15:46
tjaaltontry to break it with the updated kernel15:47
rtg_tjaalton, any other goodies on your todo list  ?15:59
tjaaltonheh, not yet16:01
tjaaltonI'll ask ickle16:01
rtg_jsalisbury, I think bug #1156548 is likely a duplicate of bug #1156310 (which appears to cause multiple issues)16:10
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156548 in linux (Ubuntu) "With Kernel 3.8.0-13 Intel GPU/screen size not recognized, works correctly with old 3.8.0-12" [Critical,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115654816:10
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156310 in linux (Ubuntu Raring) "xrandr detects too many displays" [Medium,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115631016:10
jsalisburyrtg_, ack.  I'll request the test kernel in bug 1156310 to be testing in 115654816:11
ubot2Launchpad bug 1156310 in linux (Ubuntu Raring) "xrandr detects too many displays" [Medium,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/115631016:11
jsalisburyrtg_, thanks16:11
rtg_jsalisbury, how about building raring master-next (HEAD==874b4285c51a2a77486f0556d513fee52a2587db) and have bug reporters test that ?16:14
jsalisburyrtg_, even better.  I'll do that.16:14
jsalisburyrtg_, I forget, which repo has the master-next branch?  It doesn't seem to be in git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git16:24
rtg_jsalisbury, 'git branch -a'16:24
jsalisburyrtg_, I only see:16:24
jsalisburyjsalisbury@gomeisa:~/bugs/lp1156548/ubuntu-raring$ git branch -a16:24

rtg_jsalisbury, re-fetch, e.g., git fetch git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git16:25
infinityzequence / apw: lowlatency for quantal is behind too.16:26
jsalisburyrtg_, Still don't see it.  Let me try on tangerine16:26
apwinfinity, hmmm that might be my fault i guess16:26

ubot2Launchpad bug 1153652 in kernel-sru-workflow "linux-lowlatency: 3.5.0-26.27 -proposed tracker" [Medium,In progress]16:27
infinityapw: That's not been a few days, no... But the bug's stalled on prepare-package.  I assume it never landed in the PPA?16:27
ikepanhcinfinity: no, I dont think we shall upload it before we find out the root cause for regression descript in bug 113358616:27
ubot2Launchpad bug 1133586 in linux-armadaxp (Ubuntu Quantal) "linux-armadaxp: 3.5.0-1610.14 -proposed tracker" [Medium,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/113358616:27

jsalisburyrtg_, hmm.  I clone my tree with: git clone --reference /usr3/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git/ /usr3/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git/ ubuntu-raring  16:28
ikepanhcinfinity: find out the update https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-armadaxp/+bug/1133586/comments/1416:29
infinityikepanhc: That looks like bad hardware, not a regression.16:29
ubot2Launchpad bug 1133586 in linux-armadaxp "linux-armadaxp: 3.5.0-1610.14 -proposed tracker" [Medium,In progress]16:29

rtg_jsalisbury, git clone --reference /usr3/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-rearing.git16:29
jsalisburyrtg_, great.  thanks!16:29
rtg_except you gatta spell it right16:29
jsalisburyheh16:30
zequenceapw: Seems like I forgot to update the bug description after updating the package. It's in ppa:ubuntustudio-kernel/linux-lowlatency-sru16:30
jsalisburyrtg_, that did the trick.  thanks!16:31
rtg_jsalisbury, np16:31
apwzequence, thanks will check16:33
infinityjjohansen: Any progress on 1145234?16:46
jjohanseninfinity: progress yes I think so, but I'm not done with it16:47
jjohanseninfinity: the backport was good, unfortunately, its some of the logic in between that is missing16:48
infinityjjohansen: Mmkay.  Well, I guess I don't have to feel bad that your security update is being held up by your bug. ;)16:48
jjohansenyeah no one to blame but me16:48
